What Was It About Dragon Ball Z That Was So Awesome?

Bro, DBZ is the only anime where the vioces in JP were awful and the english (funimation) were great. Most times people love the original JP voice acting and prefer it in animes, but DBZ was ultra bad. The funimation dub as excellent.Nengo_Flow

The melodramatic storytelling, compelling battles with characters you actually grew attached to, [the illusion of] insane scale, etc....

Kai was a mixed bag, it was good to watch Dragon Ball Z without filler but the animation wasn't on par to today's standards. It would have been better if they recasted Goku's seiyuu though. Gohan is ok since he is a kid in Kai.

Mario Castañeda did one of the most memorable works as Goku and the music and the producers kept the same japanese openings. Cha la head Cha la, oh man, that was great. And We Were Angels, my favorite ending.

They kept the violence in the original Japanese version. Although I admit that they took out the hole Piccolo gave to Goku when he sacrificed his life for kill Raditz.

Kai was retarded. I understand if they didnt ant to show blood, but the censored the hell out of it. Blue Mr.Po Po, heavely edited impact shots(punches, kicks, ect. were all taken out and changed to lights and flashes), everything sucked and even the colors were washed out

To me the Mexican version kicks ass, Mario Castañeda did the greatest Goku Voice in my opinion. His voice acting was superb and I kinda feel THAT is the true voice of Goku.

As for the endings I totally agree, Cha la head Cha la was a great song, they kept a very similar rythm to the japanese one, while not being some rock instrumental like the english version. Where I'm from, kids from those times used to choir that song whenever the show aired on TV.

First anime for just about everyone.

The art style, the voice acting, the animation and the music . Everything about it was just so awesome.

i honestly feel sorry for this generation of kids for not growing up with DBZ on TV, most kids born in the 90s have DBZ as their childhood, waking up in the morning and watching the latest ep before going to school and then when you get there everyone is talking about it, i still remember the episode when Goku transformed, one of the most memorable moments of my childhood, when i got to school everyone was going apesh*t

I have a very vivid memory of playing some Splinter Cell and watching an episode of DBZ before football training one time. I think i liked it as a kid. Mostly for Krillin and Piccolo

Nostalgia.

It's my favorite anime of all time, and I grew up watching it. It was great for it's time, but compared to anime that came after, it's pretty mediocre.

Well, unless all you're into is the typical Shounen power-up shallow plot anime. The current big three (Bleach, Naruto, One Piece) are mediocre as well. Very entertaining, but mediocre overall.

These anime were inspired by Dragonball. But it's funny when kids who only have access to the latest episodes of those anime on the internet diss DBZ, when their favorite anime wouldn't even exist without it.
