To Kill a Mockingbird. We never read 1984, but I'm sure I would have liked that too.

The only book I remember was Fahrenheit 451. It was pretty good.

I didn't like the Great Gatsby. Although that's probably because my teacher was an idiot and ruined it.

Mercy Among the Children is pretty good so far, but as for something I've completed I'd say To Kill A Mockingbird. Also, it wasn't required but it was an option for one of our essays, but the Kite Runner was really good too.

I didn't realize plays counted as books, so I'll add Macbeth.

The Catcher in the Rye
Hamlet

Fifth Business and Lives of the Saints were pretty good too.

So far (as a junior) The Great Gatsby A Clockwork Orange... technically wasn't forced to read, but I had a choice out of a list.

It's a pretty hard book to teach but once you get into it, you realize how amazing it is. My favorites are between The Great Gatsby, Hamlet, Othello, The God of Small Things, Lord of the Flies and 1984. Probably some others since i really enjoyed several of the required readings :P

Best: Sound and the Fury, As I lay Dying,A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Ulysses, Once and Future King, the Things they Carried, The Tempest

Worst: Bless Me Ultima, Fahrenheit 451, Catcher in the Rye, Slaughterhouse 5 The latter two I hated because I despised Holden Caulfield and Billy Pilgrim

1984 and Life of Pi. Life of Pi wasn't a required reading, but I used it as part of my 12th grade comparative essay assignment. Both were excellent reads.

Our class never really got into it :P First thing he did was tell us what happens at the end, and then was surprised that we didn't know. When he told us to read up to a certain chapter, he would skip ahead and tell us what happens there are eventually we had a collective "**** this" :|

I guess I can't really blame him, since he was a student teacher, but even our real teacher agreed with us to a point.

You lucky person. We only got to read dubliners by Joyce :( We didn't even touch Faulkner (even though that was my teacher's favorite author).

we didnt had to read any books during high school....in school they made us read a novel called "short pants" and it was actually very good (no its not some sort of child story...its a great book) during high school our teacher told us we had to read don quixote and that we had to deliver a summary of 5 chapters every week...but she forgot about it and so we never actually read it.... we interpreted hamlet in a small "play" once...it was good

Damn, I wish we read Dracula or The Count of Monte Cristo at my school. :(

I guess I'd have to go with Brave New World and Hamlet. I sometimes wish teachers would allow students to review books after reading them so they can decide which books they actually enjoy reading and which ones they can't stand. I get that these books are chosen because they are literally significant, but I honestly have never met anybody who actually LIKED The Scarlet Letter.

Well, in my Latin class we had to read Vergil's Aeneid and Ovid's Metamorphoses. I LOVED both. In English classes I liked The Chosen, 1984, The Things They Carried, The Odyssey, 12 Angry Men, Dante's Inferno, etc.

I hated them all, Some were just boring, others because the extra work we had extra about the book.
