As early as 2020 scientists are saying cities across the world will suffer water shortages, 3 times as many floods, 250 million people in Africa will die cause of dengue fever and water shortages. By 2030 many coral reefs will dissapear and the colorful creatures that lived in them will go extinct. By 2040 the arctic sea is ice free, some cities go underwater, fierce hurricanes and extreme weathers will occur throughout the world. By 2050 the glaciers melt by 70 percent and over 100 animals face extinction. By 2070 many of the hydropower stations decrease as a result of water shortages which would mean 75 percent less electricity is produced. By 2080 4 billion people will experience water shortage and 800 million go hungry. By 2100 more than 5 million animals go extinct such as polar bears, penguins. Whats your opinion on this and what you think should be done?

I think that the "scientists" that sit around coming up with theories like these aren't really "scientists" but idiots.

Maybe it's just in my head, but it seems like there already have been a lot more huge natural disasters lately.

People in Africa dying of poverty-related conditions is nothing new, sadly.

Coral reefs have been disappearing, so no surprise there, but then some places have programs in place to build new ones.

It's rather indisputable that the polar ice caps are melting, so I assume they know better than I do how much that will raise the sea level.

Over 100 animals probably already "face" extinction.

Don't really know about the hydropower thing. That one seems like maybe a stretch.

And I think trying to forecast what people will be doing and what technologies will exist by 2080 is rather futile. Twenty years ago, it would have been hard to imagine that we'd already have half of the gadgets we have today at mass market prices by now.

Never will happen for a long time, the Oil companies are the new tobbacco industry x100, their immense profit garentees nothign will change for a long time due to lobbyiests. We have a greater chance of oil running out then switching to a alternate energy source.

As I say again every enviromental agency out there that is crediable (including Bush's handpicked staff of scientists, which honestly would see to be bias towards global warming (against it)), found undeniable evidence it is happening and man is having a affect on it.

Nuclear power is most likely one of the more viable choices for power generation, although it is obviously going to be immensely difficult to curb our dependency on fossil fuels. Hydro-power, solar power and wind-power seem viable, but with current technology beyond small local projects they just do not work that well, with our current technology these things just don't scale up well.

Rising sea levels are only one concern with melting glaciers. The melting glaciers mean huge amounts of freshwater dumping ino the ocean, this disrupts ocean currents and throw off weather patterns for years (it is believed thatthe melting of an ice brdige that resulted in water from hudsons bay flowing into the ocean plunged the world into a "micro-ice age".)

And note i didn't say global warming not happening. Temperatures aren't regulated for this time of the year, at least where i live. I am very aware of global arming.

What's even more worrying than the water shortage is that the rising sea level will contaminate many sources of water with salt.

Nuke's talking nonsense as usual; we have evidence of a consistant rise in levels of carbon dioxide for the last 60 years, so how he can claim things are better than in the 1930s is beyond me. the only environmental concern to change this way is air pollution.

Nuclear fusion would be the ultimate aim for renewable energy, and is not far off. It could become commercial in the next 30 years. There are a lot of problems with fission, such as nuclear waste, that still do not have an adequate solution, so is perhaps not the moste viable nuclear fuel at present.

I would tend to agree with your statement, if it were a handful of scientists.. But its the entire community for enviromental climotology.. Tesla isn't a good example because he was in direct competition for Edison, there is no such competition here.. And the community has a hug econsensus of the matter.. I would post stats, but there is no reason to.. Look up any crediable enviromental agency about global warming.. And no I enver said scientists are above every one...
