[QUOTE="TwighlightBlade"]Aw, blow off man. If you don't like his favorite genre then don't listen, but don't hate on him for like somethin you don't.LordQuorthon
Metalcore is not metal and I don't hate it. I didn't hate the glam rock fad, I didn't hate the mallcore fad, I don't hate the metalcore fad. None of them were/are metal, though.
You don't hate it, but yet you call it crap?... And no one said it was true metal.I also forget to tell TC to listen to, Mudvayne. Very good band. :Dcodymcclain14
Please, stop posting here. You give other metalcore fans a bad name.

If you want some more technical stuff I recommend Dream theater- progressive Sonata Arctica - Power Nightwish- symphonic Opeth- progressive deathYoshiYogurt
And if you want some stuff that kicks ass, stay away from all those bands.
[QUOTE="Hatiko"]Nude_DudeYou forgot a couple LAME LIST. PS. Swedish Hitz Goes Metal Is ReinXeed...so why put ReinXeed twice up there PS 2. In 90% of the bands listed I guessed right which song it would be before clicking it. That means either that I'm good at guessing, or that you get your music outta youtube metal recommendation channels. Predictable... PS 3 (sucks). PATHFINDER ARE RELEASING A NEW ALBUM ITS GONNA BE SO AWESOME AND ALL OVER THE PLACE
Uh, what?!
I forgot a couple and it is a LAME LIST?!
1. I thought SHGM just had some of the people from RX not all of 'em.
2. I chose songs that were the easiest to get into, so obviously they are going to be predictable. I wanted to choose "Mirror of Souls" or "I Am" for Theocracy but doubt people would want to sit through a 10 minute, let alone 22 minute song no matter how good they are.
3. I have no clue what "(sucks)" referes to and sweet how Pathfinder comin' out with a new album. Sonata Arctica is coming out with one too!
Hey, at least I didn't post any DrgaonForce, so lay off me man!
Clearly I speak for forgotten bands:
If you're looking for some new metal albums, Overkill (thrash) and Ministry (industrial metal) each just put one out, they're both quite good. Actually, the new Overkill is very good

metal elitist^^^metal elitist^^^

Maybe. But that doesn't change the fact that progressive stuff and kicking ass rarely go hand in hand, unless it's some atonal and crazy stuff like Demilich. It's ok to like progressive stuff like Opeth, but that won't make them kick ass.

thats opinions sir. you can sub genre alot of things but in the end metal is metal. it's such an annoying disfunctional community.thats opinions sir.
almasdeathchild
No. That's a fact. Being progressive prevents you from kicking ass because it drives your sound away from the ass-kicking benchmark that are Motorhead and Venom. You can strafe from said benchmark a little bit and still kick ass, but once you do what bands like Opeth and Dream Theater do, you may as well be Yes or Camel or something like that, which is fine, but does not kick any ass.

Also, At The Gates greatly influenced the modern metalcore scene vocals-wise, so nice of you to mention them.
Some good metal
Get over yourself. I don't hate Metalcore, nor do I think that it isn't Metal. I'm okay with bands like Darkest Hour and Shadows Fall... he just mostly listed crappy bands that are quite frankly for little girls. Such as yourself, I presume.Chalk and CheeseSteverXIII
One rocks and the other one does not. It's very simple.

I like their music, it's just the vocals that turn me off. I do respect that they're metal legends, though.I do respect that they're metal legends, though.ArmoredCore55I think they are about as stock as it gets when it comes to heavy metal. As much as I love them, Motorhead is as inconsistent as Annihilator, and Venom invented a fairly niche genre. I personally don't favour black metal due to the vocals that sound like gargling some sort of thick, viscous liquid, although I don't mind Dragon Lord; I thin kI only checked them out because Peterson from Testament plays with them.
That said, I agree with some of the angst raised about Dream Theater and Nightwish, not so much Sonata Arctica and other power metal bands. Dream Theater is hackneyed; they've been living off of their riffs from Scenes From a Memory by recycling the content into their new releases. And it's obvious! They don't even change the tempo. At least bands like ZZ Top try to do something different with their recycled riffs; what Dream Theater has done is lazy and inexcusable.
Nightwish is not metal anymore. Anyone who I have demoed their post-Tarja stuff too says it sounds like Abba or Ace of Base. And my friends aren't metal-heads.
And don't disrespect the genuine power metal bands; they keep the classical side alive. The cornerstone of what metal has become today is not so much the blues that Sabbath started off with, but the classical that Judas Priest introduced - or the punk that Anthrax pushed - so to say that that doesn't kick ass is pure fallacy. But yes, post-Scenes From A Memory Dream Theater sucks and Nightwish is now just a pop-rock band. A symphonic one, but they don't qualify as metal. Sadly, while Tarja is still doing metal, it's this pretensious douchey baroque-classical-style sh*t. That doesn't fly; metal is a lot of the things, pretensious isn't one of them.
Oh, and that, DO give Annihilator a try. Their last album, which was self-titled, is actually pretty good. Didn't like it on first listen, but second and third time around, it gets better and better. Not quite an instant hit as Carnival Diablos should have been. And the fact that I have yet to see Testament in anyone's list is kind of sad. Testament is what Metallica forgot to aspire to.

Seriously? I posted what I thought was good, not what "kicks ass." He did not asks for "kick ass" metal, he asked this "what are some of OTs favorites?" and so I posted my favorites. I wanted to post some different stuff that others might not have posted yet. You could make your own posts and recommended some metal instead of bashing other people's opinions....Edit: "Another day" is a beautiful song :p
