Whats the point of music?

Well, whats the point?

Just because you dont like a particular style, doesnt mean you should hate it just because it has something certain in it. For instance, I understand alot of people hate Screamo (Although I love it) and when I ask the reason, they just say "Because its screaming" or something like that. While I can accept it, thats like saying I hate country just because its not heavy.

Music should be listened to for what it does, evoking emotions throughout your mind.

As Ive said in another thread, music isnt worth it unless it makes you feel.

Ive listened to songs that made me-
Laugh (CaramelDansen)
Cry (The Past, The Love, The Memory- A Skylit Drive)
Feel like Dancing (Shake It- Metro Station)
Made me happy (The Great Escape- Boys Like Girls)
Are just a bit depressing (Prayer of The Refugee- Rise Against)

And so I ask, why bother listening to music if it doesnt evoke emotion, regardless of genre?

I look at music differently. I only like 3 kinds of music:

Club/Party type music (AC/DC,ZZ Top,Van Halen)

Laid Back & relaxing (Clapton,Santana,Marley)

Real lyrics that are about where ya come from (Skynyrd,Bob Seger,Snoop,Dre,Hank Williams Jr)

Anything depressing or anything like that I hate it.

And so I ask, why bother listening to music if it doesnt evoke emotion, regardless of genre?

There wouldn't be any real reason to listen to music if it didn't evoke emotion. Music, then, would have lost its purpose. Music is too powerful to just be "background noise" as some people refer to it.

I don't hate any bands or artists. Some bands or artists are disgusting to me.

I don't restrict to myself to one genre, however. That's why my shuffle went from Third Eye Blind to Carcass a minute ago...xD
