im okay with eating farm animals because theyre raised to be eaten. but would i eat a rabbit? neverkirbyfanatic
Once again, wth?
Question for you: have you at any time in the past, ever raised an animal for the purposes of killing it and eating it?
Dude, people get ATTACHED to the animals that they raise. Even stupid-ass animals like ducks and chickens and geese and cows and pigs and rabbits have PERSONALITY.
If you raise a cow from the moment it was born, it's gonna be a LOT harder to kill it than it is to kill a wild cow (that is, assuming there were any wild cows). Similarly, it's EASY to go out into a swamp and shoot a duck. But when you decide that you want duck for dinner, and the most edible duck around happens to be a duck that you've cared for from the moment that it hatched from the damn egg, chopping its head off is gonna be hard.
However, in a sense, that IS good. Because when you raise your own meat, and get to know your meat, every animal that you eat is like a family member or a beloved pet. And in that case, killing it and eating it, even though it hurts your soul, is a valuable lesson that people tend to forget when they buy t-bone steaks or chicken McNuggets.
Ultimately, you realize that you love that chicken, and want to eat a chicken, but that there is absolutely no reason why your chicken has any more right toi live than the chicken that SOMEONE ELSE raised. Sure, it's HARDER for you to slaughter your own chicken. But why the hell should DEATH be easy? If you eat meat, you kill. End of story. Accept the death, embrace the sadness, and you'll be rewarded greatly. Because then every single animal that you eat feels like Holy Communion.
