Just out of curiosity. I'm betting most of GS will be something computer science, but maybe not :D?

Me; Double major in music/physics.

I got my middle school diploma back in '06, I majored in phys. ed. and recess, so I'm essentially qualified for just about nay job :o Seriously, I'm still too young, but I'll be going into the medical field, so chances are I may just very well need more than one degree.

Yeah that's cool. I considered medical, but physics is just so cool imo! Both are great fields though :)!

We're opposites then :o I'm really good with anything related to chemistry, biology, and the arts, but when it comes to physics... I phail :( Which is actually really ironic because my city is a major engineering hub for the area....

what topic does it cover? i did enjoy discrete math, so i might take a look at this and how would you rate it? seeing as most math books written now are way to vague

It covers * Sums * Recurrences * Integer functions * Elementary number theory * Binomial coefficients * Generating functions * Discrete probability * Asymptotic methods It's basically discrete math. I am only on chapter 3, and I have been thoroughly enjoying it and learning a lot and gaining a lot more respect for the art of mathematics. I already feel like my problem solving skills are several times better. :P I can't wait to finish it...but it is really challenging--especially trying to learn it on your own. So far it has been the best math book I have ever (partially)read..I would give it a 10/10 so far

sounds good, how thick is the book itself? i have had bad experiences with upper level math books so far :x and did you have any background to rely on? I can see a few topics being helpful for some courses i still need to take

There is about 500 pages of content, it's pretty dense. I have taken calculus through differential equations so far. I am taking prob and stats next semester. You will definitely appreciate this book even more since you have most likely taken more math courses than I have. :) and nice! I would definitely say this is worth it for just self-study and the sake of learning, and will definitely give you an edge

ohh that is pretty damn thick, i have it bookmarked for future use, and linear algebra would be of great help to ya from what i read :P But im not that ahead of you, i still need to take statictis, number theory and college geometry before im done :P

Economics major, finance minor. I was in engineering, but chose to go the economics route when I realized how much calculus would be required of me. Of course, the joke was on me, as the econometrics side of economics has almost as much calculus. My main reason was avoiding the general rule of thumb - where people who can't hack engineering drop down to computer science. I wasn't going to be one of those computer science guys. Weird dudes, too. I had a few classes with them, and they're truly disturbing - they write anime fanfiction in assembly.

it helps alot, and dont make the same mistake i did this semester, i took discrete math with linear algebra in a 6 week semester, it was hell, and from what i have seen, most linear algebra books are pretty small and they skip alot of steps that will confuse you.

I'm going to be a senior in high school. I don't know whether to take the physics route or the computer science route. any suggestions for a guy who completely sucks at physics but likes chemistry, biology, and math?
