[QUOTE="themajormayor"] Just like me too then apperantly. And I'm 100% theistic. foxhound_fox
Your obsession with labels is amusing, and reminds me of myself a few years ago.

The point is what you mentioned is not exclusive to Atheism. It's like OMG Einstein wore clothes. I guess that's makes him an atheist since you also wears clothes.

Looking for something I could ascribe to rather than personal experience.

Guess I have to smoke more weed

It is all a matter of perception. When I found what many have called "God", I felt a "presence" that was "other" to my "self". But I was able to see that it was my subconscious mind manifested on top of my conscious mind in the same moment.

Yup more weed

It is why people attributed human aspects to "God" in the past... because that is essentially what it is. But go ahead, dismiss everything I say because I don't fit into a predetermined label and think that another very wise man saw exactly the same thing I did when contemplating the universe and merely used the popular vocabulary of the day to describe it.

He didn't see the exact same thing. You just want him on your team. Which he isn't. "The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how." Now this doesn't mean he believes in a personal God but certainly not what you believe in. Which is complete disbelief in any kind of God I would imagine.

Edited that message. What WAS that experience like? :? I've heard of that happening to people.the_plan_man
To be brief, I had "unlocked" a state of mind I had been searching for ever since 2007 when I first started ascribing to Buddhist tendencies, and what many mystics of all ages have described as a complete "letting go" of the self/soul/consciousness. It was very similar to a substance experience that I had, but with an absolutely clear mind able to fully comprehend it's beauty and (perceived) perfection. It was "the universe" but the concept of past/present/future had ceased and my place within it was entirely humbling and absolutely insignificant. It lasted several hours, happened again a week later, and I have not experienced it as vividly since. Granted, I can more easily unlock it now that I know what I'm going for. Looking up at the stars at night is the most reliable way. Though, my experience won't ever be recreated. It is unique to me because the culmination of my personal life experiences in my personal life journey is what allowed it to happen. If I were to stand up on rooftops and sing songs about it and teach it to others, in a hundred years it might become a religion and I might be called a prophet... but it was for me and me alone. All I can do is help distill the major points down into the clearest language possible and attempt to have other people understand and maybe find it themselves. What pisses me off the most is that people KILL for this feeling. Not because they have it and others want it, or they don't have it and want it... but because they think their INTERPRETATION of it is right and everyone else is wrong. Mine isn't "right". I will freely admit this and admonish anyone who thinks it is. Mine is mine. Find your own. Just remember, what you are looking for is much closer than you know, and much closer than might make you feel comfortable with. Don't go looking in places "outside". Look inwards.

I think I'm similar to the "previous" you. I've been searching around and trying to find meaning in life, but, quite frankly...haven't really found any. :? I've been through phases of my life, mostly my teen years, where I was a staunch atheist and listened to a lot of Bill Maher, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hithcens, even though I grew up in an open-minded Methodist household. It was also a time when I was just deeply depressed about life; I had lost my job, my grades were low, and I felt like a failure. Then I started embracing the deistic train of thought, though, admidittingly, my state of mind was not much different than before. Now, after a little bit of research and inspiration, I can think that maybe there is hope over the horizon...and somewhat went back to my Methodist routes...though I don't completely consider myself that. I consider myself primarily agnostic and secondly a Methodist, and acknowledge that there's a lot I don't know, but hope to find out.

I find it very interesting that you call yourself an ignostic non-theist. Ignosticism is something that way too many people overlook, unfortunately.

It really should be. I think there are a host of problems with the way people currently discuss the existence of some god.

I strongly agree with it and it has been something I've believed for years without knowing the label. I still call myself an atheist because f*ck the system.

Roman Catholic, but I'm not all that religious and frankly I only go to church because my mom makes me. (Downsides of being a teenager)

I believe in God but there are things with the Catholic church that I don't totally agree with. I'd prefer to just live my life with good intentions and whatever happens, happens.

Having read posts from him in the past I know what he thinks about athiests in general so yes he said it with disdain. If you read anything he writes in religous threads it boils down to him calling someone a militant athiest or speaks about their belief in a condescending way. The only way you can tell someones tone through text is by reading things they say in the past and you get a sense of when they are being sarcastic, genuine, or in some cases an ass. In this case an ass. Im sorry you felt the need to call me rude, ignorant, and a fool but what happened to turning the other cheek? I'm sure your interpretation as an unbaised bystander was different but I stand by mine.

What he believed in was much closer to pantheism than an invisible skydaddy even it wasn't exactly that. Don't even make that comparison. And like you said, it doesn't even matter what he believed; atheists are just correcting blatant lies.

I think atheists since they talk about him all the time
