[QUOTE="nocoolnamejim"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] So how many mods are going to be let go since they don't need many now?

Not really sure, but it's a good question. A mod's role will definitely need to change going forward and what determines a "good" mod and an "active" mod will need to change with it.
While your at it, you guys might as well change the name of this website to "Giant Bomb 2." Because, it's looking a lot more like that than the Gamespot I knew and loved. :(Give it time to settle a bit and you might be surprised. For me personally, I'm seeing the role of a mod going forward to be less "forum nanny" and more "forum guide". As in, it's no longer our role to be an invisible "big brother" type policeman peeking over everyone's shoulders and intervening in every little fight like the one going on in this thread, but the role of trying to emphasize and encourage positive traits/contributions is probably going to get extra nudging. Less punishing bad behavior, more highlighting and rewarding the good.
Right now everyone, mods included, are figuring things out and, to be honest, stretching our wings a little bit and enjoying the new freedom. Doesn't mean that things won't settle down a little bit after people get a little more accustomed and comfortable with things.
An example is swearing. Someone who deploys a swear word here and there for emphasis tends to get attention and make people sit up and listen when they do because they value the rarity. Someone who does it constantly like a 13 year old on Xbox Live playing Halo just gets people rolling their eyes and socially ostracized.
The same will happen with other things like flaming and trolling. Someone who is well-behaved and civil most of the time who occassionally just sets that aside and says, "Look, you're an idiot and the point you're making is a facile one. Kindly STFU and go educate yourself because I'm not here to write a effing book report for you." is going to be more impactful than someone who is just plain mean and nasty all the time and never makes any effort to debate something reasonably and uses bluntness and flaming as a first instead of a last resort.
