America is too big to fall.

America falls China falls, and if China falls the entire western world falls.

America would bomb anyone who threatens its current position. Not into conspiracy theories, but ever notice anyone who tries to get rid of the petrodollar their country gets bombed and they get murdered?

I do not forsee America becoming like the United Kingdom and France (both were world world superpowers). It may change into something else entirely through a transformation.

Black-Chamber99 thread......Nuff said. FYI, the US will never collapse and the union is under no risk of ever falling apart. Why can't people get that? We are not an empire and at best will just lose influence because others caught up.

you kidding me, once all these low per capita income southern states start getting cheaper or even free healthcare... what choice do they have but to rise up? Its our right as americans to goto the ER and file for bankruptcy after being treated, and thats a right worth dying for.

Like someone said earlier, America is NOT an empire, it is a superpower. It is not in control of vast areas that do not belong in its core territory so there will be no Roman Empire style collapse or even a British Empire style dismantling. The USA has far too many people and resource to really decline that significantly

That's true. We do have some island territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa. But, their populations seem content to stay under US rule rather than become independent countries.

I know its not the same but think about this. there are approximately 192 countries. there are 737 US military bases around the world (this is just how many they admit to and doesn't take into account the many black sites they have scattered around). from an active-duty force of 1.4 million soldiers, the US has deployed some 350,000 to at least 130 foriegn countries. no country in the history of the world has ever had a global presence like this. and that stretch of land where bases are set up is american land. america basically strong-armed japan after the war to give them a big chunk of okinawa, and now they want more to build new developments (hence all the controversies currently going on down there). having a military presence like this in every country is a middle finger and shows you who's boss. they may not be completely taking over and governing the people, but its a subtle form of expansion.

america is ready to go to war anytime, anywhere, with anyone.

hitler believed the same thing and yet................

hitler also started a two front war and attacked russia during the winter

Summer. Actually the anniversary was just a week ago. Though I'd grant you that any man who starts a two front war is most likely bound to be the loser.

Anyways, status quo of USA should ultimately change, if history tells us anything. Of course, any nation is up for change at the end.

You just really want to say the US is gonna go to war.  Times have changed.  Powers don't expand or collapse like they used to and no one is ready to go to war anytime, anywhere, with anyone.  The US's role will diminish slightly, but there probably won't be a full collapse and they'll probably stay influential.  The way you're looking at things doesn't make sense in modern times.

they wanted to build a new airstrip in okinawa but there's been a LOT of pushback by the locals. i'm not sure if its still going down as planned. in 2010 there was a rally with over 90,000 protestors objecting to this

It seems to me the purpose of the new airstrip is to provide some elbow room between nearby towns and the base. The GIs leave the old base and move to the new one. The Japanese are strict when it comes to noise pollution, especially at night. I imagine US aircraft have problems trying to fly at night because of noise pollution laws. Having the base at the newer isolated site would allow night operations.

These protests come and go. When there's nothing going on, the Japanese stage their usual protests. Yet, the moment there's tensions with North Korea or China, the protests disappear.

I'm sure many of those who protested back in 2010 are Japanese who are genuinely disgusted with the US presence. But, I'd bet they also included a bunch of treehuggers and even locals employed in the base. Moving the base meant the employees losing their jobs or having a long-ass drive to work.

If the United States falls, essentially the whole first world would collapse. Everybody is tied too closely for it to be isolated. I'm doubtful it will be in any of our lifetimes.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Doubt that will happen...it's not like back in the day when countries expanded way too much and caused problems at home.black_chamber99

what? have you ever heard of the military-industrial complex? how america spends an exorbitant amount of money establishing miliarty bases all over the world?

You'd have a stronger argument if your criticism was directed at the welfare state: Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, food stamps, mandated employee insurance, regulations, etc. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does, the financial collapse will be far more a function of what I just mentioned rather than irresponsible military expenditures.
