[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] I know they haven't been leaked because there haven't been any reports of leaked pre-interview conversations after pretty much every interview Obama has given before this one, unless you have evidence to the contrary. LJS9502_basic
Well now you didn't provide any evidence and you made the initial statement. Truth is...you don't know.;) As an aside.....I see it's spawned a huge meme battle now.

Well that's how you prove a negative through inductive reasoning.

No evidence of reporters regularly leaking "pre-interview" conversations

Therefore; there is no reason to believe that "pre-interviews" are regularly leaked

That's a perfectly sound line of reasoning, unless however there is evidence of reporters regularly leaking the contents of "pre-interview" conversations, which doesn't seem to be the case.

And yes, there does appear to a new meme on teh interwebz, and it seems to have brought the lulz with it.

[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Reporter = not private. He should know that.

Definitely not how journalism works; there is on the record and off the record; if that wasn't the case, ABC wouldn't have needed to issue an apology.

Did ABC issue an apology? Anyway yeah off the record usually stays that way. Most reporters value that relationship. I still don't get the big deal. Taxpayer money? Would it matter if he said to his wife before bed "man that Kanye is a jackass". Would that cost more?

I'm sorry, but that just crosses the line. Even if the context is joking, there is absolutely nothing funny about the Oklahoma City Bombing or the events of September 11, 2001.

The best, hands down. Others pale in comparison.

And Kanye was always a dick. That's how he got famous, and why all of America is talking about him, over something that has NO effect on their lives.

God Bless America!

Er no. He doesn't decide. He has an important job. Nonetheless, I don't care that he chats....just that this has been blown up way too much what with presidents weighing in on an award show on MTV of all places. I've gotten tired of hearing about it already.

Thus is the paradox of public office. Every single one of his movements will be analyzed and criticized because he is in the public eye. He is our president, after all. He (supposedly) represents us, thus news agencies will always try to follow him to extoll his glories or, in the case of Fox, extoll his flaws.

You decide? That seems unlikely. Folks looking to complain about this need some perspective. That is some desperate begging for something to complain about there.

The thing is I'm fairly certain Obama knew what he was getting into when he chose to run for president. He knew that, if he won (or if he didn't win, as is the case with Palin), he would be in the public eye twenty-four hours a day every day until his term ran out. I don't see the logic in complaining about an aspect of the office that cannot, without a massive leap backwards in technology (before the advent of radio, for instance), be removed from the office.

Well, given the President's annual salary of $300,000 and LJS' implication that the President is always on duty, that comes to pay of 0.95 cents per second. Drawling out "Kanye was a jackass as slowly as I could, it took about 4 seconds, so given that, we can assume that this cost about 3.8 cents of taxpayer money. Yay math!

I'm going to take a wild stab that plenty of presidents have spoken off the record, and it has stayed there. Let's say Obama traveled to the south during segregation and got beat down for protesting. Knowing he could get beat up, does that make it right just because you expect it might happen? My point is the argument that just because we expect someone to be under a microscope doesn't make any complaints related to being under a microscope valid, or sensible.

Yeah he is the president but he can relax and can comment on whatever he wants no matter how trivial it is to the world. I agree with what he said whole heartedly.

It is, though I was off; the current US Presidential salary is actually $400K, meaning that pre-tax, it could be as much as a shiny nickel!

My point is the argument that just because we expect someone to be under a microscope doesn't make any complaints related to being under a microscope valid, or sensible.

No, but then again you're exaggerating to the point of lunacy.

Like it or not, you're going to have to live with it. Does that make it right? No. Does that mean it'll go away? Not without a massive crackdown on the media.

[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="xaos"] Well, given the President's annual salary of $300,000 and LJS' implication that the President is always on duty, that comes to pay of 0.95 cents per second. Drawling out "Kanye was a jackass as slowly as I could, it took about 4 seconds, so given that, we can assume that this cost about 3.8 cents of taxpayer money. Yay math!

I believe that 200k is taxed too. His take home cost would be even lower I think.

It is, though I was off; the current US Presidential salary is actually $400K, meaning that pre-tax, it could be as much as a shiny nickel!

Eh.....still not his job to comment on entertainment....and it wasn't off the record as you implied earlier.

[QUOTE="duxup"][QUOTE="tycoonmike"] The thing is I'm fairly certain Obama knew what he was getting into when he chose to run for president.

"Does that make it right? No. " That was my point. Expected sure, that doesn't justify the behavior.

The problem being that right and wrong assume that there is a choice. If it is inevitable for something like this to happen, how can you judge something based on a right-or-wrong basis?

Really? The story linked at the very beginning says that it was overheard as an off the record comment. *shrug* Either way, unless he starts sending out 30 twitter status updates a day about his favorite pop singer or whatever, it seems like he must be doing a pretty good job overall if that's the only complaint you have with his performance ;)

Maybe some reporter just wants some twitter attention....

Having said that if true, well yeah.

This is developing into one of the best memes I've seen.

I'm really happy for you. I'm gonna let you finish, but Imma Firin Mah Laza was one of the best internet memes of all time!

A leak? I'm judging the effort to score political points on such a non issue. There is a choice there.

TBH I can't recall that he's actually done anything. His healthcare is abandoned and all I remember is a comment on Kanye. Not a success.
