So, how tall is everyone using the metric system? :PFire_Antsim 185 cm, 6ft by your measurements

[QUOTE="remmbermytitans"]Never. We're Americans. Jaguar_ShadeBut the U.S armed forces uses metric because it's better :| That may be, but the rest of us don't use it. Although I will agree that it is much easier to use. Not necessarily better.
if you understood american history you would know why the word "yanks" is insulting. I seriously doubt any American's who get called a "yank" are going to take a whole lot of offense to it.theres been atleast 10 people in this thread who would rather not be called a yank.[QUOTE="-xPANICx-"]
[QUOTE="BumFluff122"]I am aware of your point. It was a shot at humour. If we have a hockey team called The Vancouver Canucks why in the world would any Canadian take it as an insult? The only way it would be taken as an insult by a Canadian is if they weren't fans of the Vancouver Canucks and even then it may not be.

I agree I would much rather not be called a yank. You mean when the USA finally changes to metric. I'm an American, and I believe in the metric system.Life will be so much easier when you stop harrassing us about it.

[QUOTE="kingkui"]because we are the odd ones out. isnt the US the only country that uses farenheit? please correct me if im wrong. I like farenheit because there are more digits to use before you freeze or burn to death. Why don't you change to our system?

It is much easier to use, but it's not better. Why exactly is imperial better again?
cause the imperial system is terribad and over complicates things. Why don't you change to our system?

Good heavens. This has gone from 'change to metric', to 'yank is insulting', to hockey teams,India, Canada and then back!
It only took 14 pages and 267 posts so far!
Metric system was taught in the USA in the 1970's. Before many here were born. But the metric system is available to USA now.
USA is not strange to the idea of metric system. Those who wish to use it, can do so. It is now a matter of personal choice inside our own nation, just like deciding if "Yanks" is offending to us. Not a major issue for truly busy people anyway.
Other nations may be inconvienienced by the Imperial / Metric duality, but if they want to shop/deal with USA, they'll have to realize that. When I visited Quebec Canada, I took the time to learn some french. I didn't have to do that, I was being courteous. No big deal, since I was the one visiting them.
Troll arguments in GameSpot forums-particularly in Off Topic- are getting more sophisticated. All so some person can offend another.
Regular humans posting in GameSpot Off-Topic run the risk of looking both malicious and ignorant as a result. It's almost like the legendary hate supposedly found in the System Wars Forum.
GameSpot needs to create a "Troll Argument only Forum" to give the baiters and haters somewhere else to vent. They could hold 'most convaluted arguement contests' and offer another emblem to victors.
Humans need to stop being angrily stupid to each other as a general rule. My honest answer to a sincere question-If this yank (dosen't offend me) deals with another nation's measurement, I'll try to learn their measure system, but to demand global aquiesence about such a simple issue is never my issue.
Seriously, make your life's easier and change already! The imperial system is horrible...

America is the last country on the planet to resist adopting SI units, IUPAC nomenclature, etc. Is it their sick, twisted historical black sheep politics that causes them to want to continue defying logic and reason, or is there some even darker and more perverted explanation?

As a whole, we are too stupid to handle it.It's already happening gradually. Standard volume looks like it will be phased out before too long. Weight measurements shouldn't be very hard to change. The last thing to change will be distance measurements, because we rely very heavily on our current distance system in so many ways. I don't really know about temperature.
[QUOTE="charomid"]For jobs that matter people use metric.tc if your from canada (which you probably are like me), u should note that we infact used the imperial system b4 we adopted the metric system. as a matter of fact, if you work construction or a job that requires tape measures and dont know inches, ppl will laugh at you so hard its not even funny. if you dont know how to use imperial, then u could never work construction. inches are one the most important measurements ( for plumbing, electrical, woodworking etc)
King-Saddam
i would love to see you live without electricity, water and a home. i think it'd pretty hard to do. dont say jobs dont matter because trades are in high demand.
*facepalm*

Its simple, we just don't care.
TBH, most of us probably use both.

I agree I would much rather not be called a yank.'Yank' is an acronym.
You Americans Need Kilometres
Not miles.

because we are the odd ones out. isnt the US the only country that uses farenheit? please correct me if im wrong. I like farenheit because there are more digits to use before you freeze or burn to death. lol, I guess that is true. BUt with celsius, you know water will freeze at 0 degrees and water will boil at 100. SO it is easier to tell when you will die! (though you definately will not freeze to death at 0When the Brits change to U.S. Custumary System.
P.S.
We yanks know how to have a good time. What to Europeans do, eat crumpets and ride their bikes to the tennis court?

'Yank' is an acronym.
You Americans Need Kilometres
Not miles.
 do you know what a acronym even is?Yes......
An abbreviation composed of the initial letters or syllables of a compound term and which is pronounced as a single word. Examples: Disk Operating System = DOS
And I was also joking, I don't actually think 'yank' is an acronym. :|
But. But. I love my feet, yards, miles, inches, and other Imperial units. Besides, if we switch out of the Imperial system, it's going to affect my favorite sport. Football (not soccer) would have to change out of yards and into meters. Seeing as how 100 yards doesn't evenly fit into meters (91.44), it's going to affect the game and I'd rather not have my American sport affected by the metric system. :Premmbermytitans
1st and 9.144 meters? LOL

[QUOTE="Infinite-Zr0"]Am I the only one who see's the word 'yanks' as a derogatory term? It might be just me, but it seems that every time I see that word used, it's always used in a condescending manner.remmbermytitansI don't think yank is a derogatory term. We have a baseball team called the "Yankees".
True I don't get what's so insulting. I use it all the time not only in a condescending manner...

Never! That's blasphemy!I only use metric when i need to be exact like in science, if i don't need to i'll use imperial ie "a few feet", "couple of inches"markop2003Bingo! Might as well why there are 24 hours in a day or 360 degrees in a circle. Let's all change to planetary time of ten hours a day and no time zones and circles will be only 100 a hundred degrees around!
