[QUOTE="Faber_Fighter"]No it wasn't racist. What else were they suppose to do, wear masks? Do the skit without anything on their faces so it wouldn't make any sense? Honestly who cares, it's not like they put black paint onto their faces just to laugh at black people, they were simply trying to fit into the character. Next thing you know, using a black pen will be racist because the ink will portray the skin colour of black people.weezyfb
they could just hire black folk. when someone wants to impersonate someone on tv .. you get someone who looks like em

Hmm.. why would they hire 5 black actors to take there place? then it wouldn't be there act.

ROFL  as if an American knows what goes on within Australia, get over yourselves it was done in good taste as a twenty years ago we did it, twenty years later we did it.

And what is black facing ? Never heard of it and im a very informed Australian. Only in AMerica i suppose

OH and FYI i watched it live on tv and not once did i get the racist vibe out of it, seriously the people around here

This is rediculous. This is not racist. Anybody who is offended by this needs to get real.

[QUOTE="CBR600-RR"]

Yeah, that's so racist.

Tjeremiah1988

 are you guys kidding me? You have white men painting their faces pitch black to impersonate a black male group, and that is in any way not offensive  ? If they wanted to truly do a tribute, it would of been fine coming in your own skin.

No, just no. A good tribute band does not turn up looking like rednecks if they're impersonating The Beatles.

At least thats how I see it.

As it's been said everywere else, it's in very poor taste, but hardly proof that all Australians are backward racists (and seriously, if you're claiming that over one poorly-done parody skit, then you should look in the mirror.) In Australia, blackface does not have the same cultural connotations as in America - my first reaction when seeing the skit was "isn't this a bit too soon" rather then, "that's really racist." It should have ended when the host apologized to HC Jr, not have lead to this mothballing effect (Americans - Australians are racist > Australians - We aren't, you just don't understand us > Americans - You're a backward island >Australians - Look in the mirror, and so on, ad infinum.)

ROFL  as if an American knows what goes on within Australia, get over yourselves it was done in good taste as a twenty years ago we did it, twenty years later we did it.

The heavily racist connotations of blackface in America have (unsurprisingly) annoyed Americans/HC Jr. Although they can't be blamed for being annoyed, trying to paint a culture as inferior for not sharing the same taboos as them, is at best, arrogant, at worst, a form of cultural imperialism.

I personally don't think so, but I think they knew it was controversial and did it for just those reasons.

Apparently the majority of Americans don't even know where Australians are on the world map, and yet they claim Aussies are racists. Really, pot calling the kettle black.

Would have been racist if they dressed up as them but kept their faces white.

The first step to racism/hate is believing generalizations about a group. Just something to think about.

I just saw the video, I guess it could be offensive, I thought they were dressed up and their faces were brown... not 100% black.

If that's racist then children who get face paints should apologize to the PETA. Little Johnny didn't mean to offend the tigers by painting his face with stripes and whiskers! Little Samantha didn't mean to offend the elephants by wearing an elephant mask! :|

I don't believe that the majority of americans don't know where australians are on the world map, just to clear things up. I was agreeing with the pot calling the kettle blue. (i don't want to get sued in the future for writing this.)

You generalized the US as ONE place (which we know isn't true) where racism is alive.

Generalizations are always wrong and right to some degree. I'm very much aware of that. I stick to my opinion that racism is quite alive in the US for such a well developed worldpower/land of the free/backbone of the world police/master of foreign aid/divine continent/what have You.

There is some racism in the US as many other places....but not quite alive. It's lessened considerably.

I don't think racism in the US is any worse than racism everywhere else. I don't live there nor have I visited but I have relatives there who LOVE the country and they never seem to have any problems fitting in. There's racism everywhere and most of the time, it's just exaggerations.

I'm more offended by the lackluster performance and lack of effort put into it all than the blackface.

After reading through alot of these post. It seems that alot of users are saying that black people are calling foul for this act; when in reality the media is the one calling foul. I feel that, black people, are blamed far too often for playing the race card. When it is usually the media that stirs up controversy. Race isn't really as big as an issue that the media makes it out to be. Black people do go around everyday blaming the white man for their problems.

From my experience its really only the older generation of black people that find alot of things racist, and how can you blame them they had to go through the civil rights movement, and had to deal with real racism back in their day.
