Wow.....stop trying to change history. It is what it is. Again, the Jewish community lived a small area of the world. The Romans didn't tell them where to live....as a point of fact, do you even know where Mary's family lived....no. It's never mentioned. So stop with this incorrect assumption on which you base an erroneous opinion.

LJS9502_basic

The Romans condensed the Jewish community into that small area. After the Babylonian Captivity, the Jewish population was moved to Babylon and Israel was ransacked. The only people left were the Samaritans. Later, King Cyrus allowed them to return, however, the a large portion stayed in Babylon, as that was where they were born and the only place they knew. The few that did return scattered about all over, starting new lines and ethnicity (you have to remember how common incest was durning this time). Anyway, the Romans came along and conquered the area, condensing them all into a specific region for better control. They lived in a small are because of Rome, so there you have it.

In this case, only the Bible tells that particular story. It doesn't back up what you said.

quiglythegreat

True, but it at least flatly contradicts itself by saying a mob of Jews wanted Jesus dead and Pontius Pilate hesitantly gave in. That doesn't make an ounce of sense.

The Jewish leaders did want Him dead.  He was a threat to their way of life.  He had broken no Roman law.  Why would the Romans care?

[QUOTE="mattyftm"]If you're going to go for a religious figure, I'd go for Moses, because the 10 commandments which he documented are the basic rules and building blocks for society, and to me that is a bigger influence than jesus even.mattyftm

Only problem is it was Jesus who gave Moses the 10 commandments...so it just goes back to Jesus once again.  :-)

Yes but jesus wasnt in human form at the time, therefore he is not a person so cannot be counted in the most influential person in history for this act.

LOL, that is true....my bad.

No, actually you don't have any idea. You're trying to change history to suit your erroneous assumption that because Rome had a large civilization an individual wouldn't have been born without it. Not an accurate statement to make at all....and yet, you persist.

jointed

However ironic it is to bring in scientific principles with an argument over this, the butterfly effect says he is right.

No he's not.  History is what it is....not what it could be.

History is what it is , but that's irrelevant to the discussion.....You two are discussing if jesus would have been born if the Roman empire never existed.....so your statement sounds more like a bad excuse too me

Let me put it to you this way.....Jesus was born....he can't prove that without the Roman Empire Jesus wouldn't have been born now can he?  No, logic is against him.  Therefore, his is wrong.  Completely and totally wrong.

hmmm... well concerning the whole history of the world i would have to say Jesus as well, his followers rallied a religion that has been a major part of nearly every major European event before modern times, (reformation, religous wars etc...) but there are many others but for the count but for overall impact on history, my textbook knowledge screams Jesus. recently however history has seen the exclusion of religion, but still Jesus's impact was huge in ancient and feudalistic times.

No,  HE didn't.  He was a carpenter....who became a preacher.  None of which was interesting to the Romans.

I realize I could be totally wrong on this, but doesn't the Bible say that Mary and Joseph were both descendents of David? Maybe it was some other leader, but I'm pretty sure that they were both royalty of one of the Twelve Tribes. I can't remember. I read this book on this ages ago, so I could be out of my  mind on this.

LJS9502_basic

Basically what you are trying to say is that if one of your parents was born in the Sudan and the other in the Bronx I wouldn't be able to proof you wouldn't have been born. Technichally, you're right. The odds would be so slim however, that you might as well be wrong. But, since you can't even proof without a doubt that Jesus existed in the firstplace, your argument is largely irrelivant.

Historically speaking, Benjamin Franklin would be great, or Thomas Jefferson. They both lived great and historical lives. If I had your project, I would do either 1 of those 2.

I think the early Christian church was just a cult of personality of an influental rebel and moral philosopher. Rebel there having a technical, and not negative meaning.

That's up for debate. Personally, I think there's more evidence to say he did than didn't, but many historians would disagree. Either way, that Jesus existed is less likely than his being born with grandparents living what might has well have been a light year away.

I am guessing that you are joking for the sake of getting an argument or a response?  If in fact you really do believe that Jesus might not have ever existed, I would assume that you believed someone who would have had to have had a very low IQ.  Even the most well know Athiests who make a living debating Christianity know that Jesus in fact did exist.

I hope you are kidding, cause I would be imbarrassed for you if you really did believe that.  If you really do believe that, I wouldn't tell too many people, cause you look silly.  Just being honest man.

How about mc donalds has served way more than that number lol

I would pick, for US history I would either pick washington or Lincoln. Washington helped establish the US. On the other hand, Lincoln saved the Union from being seperated into a confederate and Union split on the Maxon Dixon line...But whatever suits you...

Oh whether or not one wants to believe in the God aspect of Jesus....as a person, he did exist.

bastards12345

Look, infallible proof that Jesus existed! :o

...what moses? or not...*doesnt get it*

It depends how you look at it. On the religious side I'd say Jesus. But on the technical side I go for the person who stopped hunting and settled down and breed sheeps and veggies.
