It's a great way to keep in touch with old high school friends, and it'll be nice when I graduate college. It's also the only way I really keep in touch with hiking friends, and it allows me to see what other hikes/travels they've gone on without having to email me 100 pictures.

Lame.. I mean its ok to occassionally check up on it like once every two weeks to keep in touch with old friends and such.. But the the fact that people are spending 1 to 3 hours a day on the site is just sad.sSubZerOo

I don't think it is lame. It is a nice, streamlined and universal (everyone uses it) way of keeping in touch with people whom you normally wouldn't be able to keep contact with in other ways.

Now MySpace... that's lame.

myspace use to be good until facebook swept in and beat it at it's own game. That didn't make myspace bad, but not the most efficient. However then myspace tried to become facebook and now it just sucks.

btw this proves my case... when something becomes big, people like this who thinks its cool to not use it anymore because everyone else is using it

it all comes down to having a mind of your own which many dont seem to have anymore. If you like it you like it, you dont you dont no matter the crowd behind it. Thats the way I think.

Hmmmm... I only go on facebook a few times a week, and I have only added family onto it because a lot of my family lives across the country, so i like to stay in touch. I guess that makes me lame?

Okay?, then don't use it? I don't see why people think somethings lame because everyone else uses it so they try to be different and rebel against it, but in this case who cares jeez, its just a social networking site, there's more just like it.

[QUOTE="CBR600-RR"]

I use it everyday, it's very handy, lots of events get planned on there. :)

Big_Bad_Sad

We plan a lot of stuff on facebook. I keep in touch with a lot of people I went to school with and if theres something happening like a big footy match or derby then we put an event on facebook to say what pub we'll be in and what not. It works great.

Yeah, same here. We even planned a couple of school reunions with Facebook, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. It's also kinda fun to upload pictures and suchlike after a big group night out, and everyone can have a chuckle about the shenanigans that went down. So yeah, I like Facebook. It's terrible for procrastination though, because once you have a couple hundred friends, there is always someone to catch up on/with.

Mustn't complain though, I might actually get a prestigious advertising job through Facebook...if I do its the greatest thing to happen since contraception.

Facebook is better then myspace imo. Its all about the status updates, no one cares about sending messages anymore. And, I don't think you can call it lame, if you don't even have one. You don't even know.

In my experience it's the people without friends that don't like facebook, because no one writes on their walls and they feel lonely.

It's alright. I don;t see why social networking would be considered lame though. My mom has used facebook to find friends she went to HS with, and other people she grew up with found her. I've also found a few childhood friends on it. It's a great way to communicate with people you haven't seen in a while or you grew up with.

I tried it reluctantly after being badgered by friends and I hated it. Deactivated my account shortly thereafter. I know some people like it for keeping in touch with friends or family, but my reaction to that is there are far better and more meaningful ways of doing this. Felt the same way about myspace, though the relentless spam that infects that site actually makes it worse.

It's easy for people to say "well if you don't like facebook it's because you have no friends" but honestly that is a phony and self serving answer. Try to remember that people were able to stay in touch with their friends and relatives before social networking sites and I would argue many of these sites wind up substituting trivial nonsense swapping for real conversation. I'm not convinced that Facebook accomplishes anything one cannot already do with a phone, e-mail or by simply making an effort to keep people in your life.

People who bash Facebook are lame.

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with friends and get back in touch with long lost friends or classmates. (got back in touch with my entire class from a different school) It also works great in planning activities.

How is facebook any different than any of the other mediums you already mentioned? Especially your last statement, can it not be argued that one is just not making an effort to use facebook as another means to keep friendships? Also, to say that people are able to maintain friendships before facebook - yes, but new technology allows for a much more convenient way to be connected in a massive way. If done right, it is not a bad thing and is quite handy. Just because we all survived without technology before doesn't mean life didn't get better because of it either.

I've had a Facebook since the fall of 2006 when I was a sophomore in high school. Hardly anyone from my school used it then, but in my junior year it just expoloded. It was great in my sophomore and junior years, but it's been getting progressively worse since my senior year. I hate all of the applications and games and layout changes. They're always messing with the news feed and making it worse, which is irritating. I don't use Facebook nearly as much as I used to, but I still check it on a daily basis. I don't do much on there except look at other people's stuff and occasionally put up some pictures. It's not lame, but it definitely used to be better.

If you can point out where I said that life did not get better as a result of technology I would be grateful, because I cannot recall stating that. If I had, I surely would not have mentioned e-mail, or phones for that matter. What I would like to point out though is, obviously, we are talking opinions here. I would not state that nobody else uses Facebook in a meaningful way to be in contact with those they care about. What I did not like, however, from my own experience, is that boatloads of people seem to use it in a delusional self important manner, in the way I think twitter is often used - meaning they blab about meaningless bull hockey and announce the minutia of their lives as if anyone cares or has the time to be reading what somebody had for breakfest or thinks about Lady Gaga. I just think it's given too many people a voice that really have nothing to say, and results in a whole lot of wasted time that I cannot be bothered with. I prefer to keep my friends in the way I already do, and not have to continually turn down friend requests from people I haven't met because those seemed to result in what I stated above. Again, my opinion. I simply said I hated it, not that other people have to share my opinion.

Do you find the irony of your complaint as you post about your opinions in an online forum? I guess we all just don't honestly care about what anyone thinks. We all just like to post it up online for our own self gratification.

[QUOTE="albatrossdrums"]

[QUOTE="Sajedene"] How is facebook any different than any of the other mediums you already mentioned? Especially your last statement, can it not be argued that one is just not making an effort to use facebook as another means to keep friendships? Also, to say that people are able to maintain friendships before facebook - yes, but new technology allows for a much more convenient way to be connected in a massive way. If done right, it is not a bad thing and is quite handy. Just because we all survived without technology before doesn't mean life didn't get better because of it either.Sajedene

I had no idea that my hating Facebook would cause you such distress. Can I e-mail you a cookie? I love how you have made my opinion on facebook, in a forum asking for same, a "complaint." I think you should stop asking me questions that seemed designed soley to discredit my opinion, and ask yourself if the point of posting in an online forum is to chide anyone who disagrees with you. If I may be blunt, this is why I do not use gametrailers and post here instead. I have no interest in getting in a "justify my opinion" war with you. Go use Facebook in good health, my good sir - we have nothing else to discuss.
