It's a fight to the death, I think Gandalf would win.

Didn't we have a thread on this just a few days ago? Anyway it's Gandalf hands down.
The best reason is that Galdalf only has to kill dumbledore once. Dumbledore has to kill gandalf at least two times and he would be much more powerful the second time around.
pretty much. There seems to be an awfull lot of these vs threads popping up lately.Didn't we have a thread on this just a few days ago? Anyway it's Gandalf hands down.

dumbledore's already dead, so I guess he wouldn't win.
EDIT: that is no longer considered a 'spoiler', it's so 4 years ago, and if you didn't know about it you must have been living under a rock for 4 years.
EDIT 2: 4 years, not 2, lol, wrong book.
Dumbledore would win, because Gandalf will know that killing him would be seen as a hate crime and get his butt thrown in jail.zakkro
I lol'd.
But seriously. I think they would battle it out forever in a Wizard match for the ages. Kinda like that scene in Disney's The Sword and the Stone. I think they would purposely put on a show for all the drooling nerds out there (me included) for all time, lest we forget about them and they fade away like Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future when he can't play guitar anymore because his hand is becoming see-through because his father is a geek who can't stand up for himself.

It was actually 4 years ago.
if i remember correctly, gandalf never used a harmful spell throguh the entire adventure in tLOtR except when fighting Saruman in the first part before he reincarnated (and seemingly gained a hell of a lot of power), so we have no clue of what he's capable of doing damage-wise. however, he has blocked a few powerful spells from others.
Dumbledore,on the other hand, has fought a few other extremely powerfulwizards (including voldemort) and won.
so Dumbledore has the better record, but there's no way of knowing for sure

lol, it's been that long since HBP? wow. I guess I'm thinking july 07 for DH..Dumbledore cause he's awesome :) Plus Gandalf is from LOTR and I don't like it, it's boring.tofu-lion91I like the HP series, but I never did like Dumbledore >_>
Gandalf, hands down.
Dumbledore cause he's awesome :) Plus Gandalf is from LOTR and I don't like it, it's boring.tofu-lion91How can you say that
We have been through this before.
Gandalf because:
1) He killed a Blarog, an ancient demon
2) Gandalf is a Maia which means he is a god but of a lesser rank than the ones "ruling" in Arda (the physical realm of the world of Tolkien)
3) He is thousands of years old (and still going strong :P)
Dumbledore, the best weapon Gandalf has is his sword which is easy enough to overcome with HP magic.markop2003Well in the Fellowshgip it was apparent that Gandalf also has the power of telekinesis.
The reason why Tolkiens supernatural characters dont perform crazy tasks like magic is because their power is portrayed through more substancial elements than "magic for the effect".
Galdalf has lived so much longer than Dumbledore that it's no contest!LanceA63
Dead people don't usually comeback even in the fantasy books, there is no point in killing them just see the readers reaction and then bring them back...that was a ridiculous story line by JRR Tolkein.
One word: Balrog.if i remember correctly, gandalf never used a harmful spell throguh the entire adventure in tLOtR except when fighting Saruman in the first part before he reincarnated (and seemingly gained a hell of a lot of power), so we have no clue of what he's capable of doing damage-wise. however, he has blocked a few powerful spells from others.

Personally, I think Dumbledore would have crapped his pants in this situation.

A light bulb? Anyone can hold a light bulb...you don't need a magical staff to do that.
Yes, Gandalf used a staff but Dumbledore also used a wand. Personally, I think the staff is way cooler.[QUOTE="Blubadox"]

The point am trying to make is, anyone can hold a wooden stick....what can you do with it?...if you watch the youtube link i posted earlier you'll notice dumby does a lot of things with his wand....I haven't seen much of that from Gandalf - he can make firecrackers and light...that's it.

You didnt answer to MY points did you?!?!?! :xLol at all the Gandalf hate. While the wizards in the trilogy were meant to be ingenious councilers and diplomats, they have powers. Gandalf alone slayed a Balrog, which I seem to remember numerous Balrogs existing in the beginning of Middle-Earth(read Silmarillion), which it took practically an army of elves to kill just one. What's Dumbledore gonna do? Shoot sparks at one?

I like how someone said "well I didnt see Gandalf do anything with a wand", while he killed a demon, plus all the other things I mentioned in my original post which wasignored conveniently! :x
as others mentioned, Gandalf is in a way a demi god, or atleast very hard to kill (like the rest of his kin), there were 5 of his kind, right?
maintaining the world and the ballance, or something like that, been a while since I read the JJR Tolkin stuff.
When all is said and done Im simply gonna have to go with the wizzard who went "screw magic arts Ill beat it to death" a nice feat vs. a human, but vs. A Balrog one of the most ancient evils in the world? then Id say Gandalf is hard as nails, and has balls the size of bowling balls.

You didnt answer to MY points did you?!?!?! :xYeah, next time quote me like this....let's make this very easy, am not trying make fun of LotR fans....I'll try to be honest..I think Gandalf is on God mode like you said, dumby has got nothing but skills....it's not a fair comparison.
The Harry potter universe has a wider range of spells. For almost every situation. He would just use that gren one hit kill spell or that torture curse.
