America is the same general culture as canada except the whole world treats canada way better for some reason. In Europe if you wear a canadian hat you get special treatment. I went to california once and saw a bus full of 35+ obese people and all the rumors of america having wieght issues i started to believe! By the end of the trip there wasnt actually anymore chubbys then in canada.
I thought everyone hated Americans?DJ_Lae
well that is the current bandwagon ticket lately! ya can hate my government, you can hate our politics but geez! i'm harmless and peaceful!

I read somewhere a few months ago saying that the US is the most liked country of 2009. Needless to ask, I don't have the link.
No the two cultures are very different. There are some things alike which includes the media which is also the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. So people think that a lot.America is the same general culture as canada except the whole world treats canada way better for some reason. I'm american(woo) and don't hate either. i'd love to see the united kingdom and/or canada someday. I think americans are just the brunt of many a joke overseas and up north because most us are fat and stupid. and ignorant.
This is probably a dumb question because I know truly I am not but would it be fair to say theoretically I could consider myself somewhat canadian, as I was born in Minnesota? Chickgsta
If you Consider yourself Canadian, then you're Canadian.
And I have nothing against Canadians or the British.
That is a myth. I am American and have lived in Canada. Like anywhere there are a few haters but for the most we get along just fine. I lived in a couple of places near the border where you see cars with license plates from Canadian provinces and American states both in town and I use both nations change in soda machines or at the local stores we talk and act the same. There is almost no difference between Americans and Canadians in speech or actions. You can't tell unless we let you know who is who. I have neighbors from Canada and when I lived there nobody knew I was American unless I mentioned it to them.Im neither one, but you seem to hate each other a bit. Nothing anything serious, a few jokes on movies and stuff like that. When did it started?

You might want to rethink this. We don't have that attitude: but we do want outsiders to keep their nose out of the Western Hemisphere (Monroe Doctrine, Cuban Missile Crisis).Actually I believe it originally began because of American egocentricism. They attacked Canada because they thought it was their 'Manifest Destiny' or 'God given right' to rule all of North america. That's why they bought what originally was thought to be completely worthless land from Russia. (At least this is what we are taught in school) and from there it was because of American ignorance of Canada. I mean back in the day they use to think we lived in igloos and had no electricity! Nowadays it is because of certain Americans egocentrism completely miscounting Canada and other nations for the good they do around the world. Some of them even believe they won WWII alone. But overall I don't find Americans THAT bad.

We were quite close to thermonuclear war:
The Joint Chiefs of Staff instructed Strategic Air Command to go to DEFCON 2, for the only confirmed time in history. The message, and the response, were deliberately transmitted uncoded, unencrypted, in order to allow Soviet intelligence to intercept them.
You are forgetting about our desire to jointly defend Canada from either air or space attack (NORAD: the vice commander is Canadian).
I cannot tell you any details, but I worked with Canadian Air Force members. We got along just fine, and there was no rivalry nor any joking around. Defense was serious business.
I don't like Canadians because sometimes they can seem pretty clueless and take the dumbest aspects of American culture and amplify them(like the current string of wannabe gangsta Canadian kids, no one hard comes from Canada). And they're pretty weird and crazy, a lot of Canadians on Youtube are ultra nice, too nice that it's weird, can they hold an argument without calling some one friend? And the fact that Degrassi happened makes it more weird
I'm scared of the British though, they hold some harsh arguments and are very funny and straight forward and they have a lot of opinions towards America, when I think of the British I think of guys standing around laughing at America in some kind of blooper show way
Actually, every American I've spoken to hates Canada for no reaaon. At least 90% of Americans hate canada without reason and could not even point Canada out on a map.its canadians that hate americans

This thread was so friendly until now too :(. I guess it was about due for a comment like this though...
90% huh?
Okay, Canada had a party. Canada had to invite America because they're neighbours. They served the best pancakes ever. However, Canada refused to share out the maple syrup. Then when the English showed up, America had a go at Canada for inviting them over after the way the English occupied them for ages. Or something.
No Oleg...Canadians killed my father.
Oleg_Huzwog
Canadians ARE your father.
(I hope this joke wasn't already done)
[QUOTE="Regent192"]Actually, every American I've spoken to hates Canada for no reaaon. At least 90% of Americans hate canada without reason and could not even point Canada out on a map. Oh...and we know where Canada is on a map.;)its canadians that hate americans

[QUOTE="Drakes_Fortune"]Why do you hate the brits then?Snipes_2
I'm American and I don't hate the British :( (I actually have a little British blood running through my veins :D)
I don't know anyone who hates British people either :?
Other British people :PIgnorance abounds I see. Most people treat Canada as basically a state. We associate one or two things with each state, whether mean, funny, or true. Maine=Stephen King + Lobsters, Florida=old people + cocaine, Canada=jeans and jean jacket combo+hockey. From my stereotype database, Ultimolce is probably from one of our very best Southern, trailer park heavy, land-locked states.I don't hate the Canadians as much as I hate the Mexicans. At least the Canadians stay in their own country.

Wow, you are amazing!I guess that makes you an uneducated cube worker in some national corporation that spends his days stereotyping people for making corney jokes.
Oh, by the way, wrong guess. I have never lived anywhere even close to the south...or near any trailor parks. In fact, I spent most of my days near the Great Lakes, which I guess would mean not really land-locked either. Better check your database.

we do not hate Americans. Were just tired of the lame stereotypes that always get attached to usevery time were mentioned.
And no they aren't funny when its EVERY SINGLE TIME.
What are you talking about, eh?Canadians do not hate Americans. Canadians feel they aren't respected by America, and hate it when they are thrown in the same boat as Americans. This lack of identity causes Canadians to feel resentment towards America. Most Americans don't know who the PM of Canada is or why exactly Canadians are different from Americans. Americans don't hate Canadians they barely know they exist, and just view Canada as America's winter hat. Being "Not American is one of the few identities Canadians truly have as their own" So when people just throw America in Canada as the same thing it causes resentment.
I didn;t say there was a rilvalry today. The first part of my post concerns the war of 1812.You might want to rethink this. We don't have that attitude: but we do want outsiders to keep their nose out of the Western Hemisphere (Monroe Doctrine, Cuban Missile Crisis).

Aye, I shant be showing those igloo dwelling barbarians of the north any respect. The Canadians are stubborn and difficult to get along with. Always waging war, you know, generally violent and stuff.

Who said I was judging? It was an explanation of where it began. Alot of americans still think of Canada as just another state. Believe it or not Canadians are patriotic. we are just more silent about it. It's an insult to be called just another part of the US. We are our own specific entity with our own laws and governance.None of us were even living back then, so I hardly see any point towards judging America on a war that took place 198 years ago.:?

One thing that does perplex us is why you cannot solve the differences you have with Quebec.
