Why Americans and Canadians hate each other? And Americans and British.

The only things that cause me (as a Canadian) to dislike the Americans is their government and the Americans I've met when I traveled. I also dislike their tendency to be completely oblivious towards Canada.

Now, this is just what I seen on X-Box Live (which is a terrible community), but as soon as I say "Eh" about 20% ask if I'm Canadian, 30% say "Hahaha a Canadian, what a stupid accent!" and leave it at that, then the other 50% tell me how big of a piece for crap I am, my country, my accent, hockey sucks, moose suck, all the stereotypes suck, I should kill myself and the list goes on.

Just going to throw it out there, I never bug anyone about their nationality, on Live I have English, American, Canadian, Scottish, Irish, Australian, Indian, etc. friends.

I live in Saskatchewan, we talk about normal things, like the hockey game last night, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, movies we watch, music we listen to, games we play, the party we were at last weekend, etc. etc. We don't bash other countries.

We mock the cultural differences between each other, although it's those countries who are closest and whose differences that are most subtle that we mock the most.

Well that doesn't paint a very nice picture of Canada. And FYI......Americans are not ignorant in general about Canada. However, not everyone pays attention to the world around them. that doesn't mean an entire country is ignorant. Nonetheless, Americans hold no animosity toward Canada.LJS9502_basic

I think Americans in general are just 'indifferent' towards Canadians.

Because the Canadians and British can't speak English and impose their inferior measuring system on our scientists. :evil:

Actually I believe it originally began because of American egocentricism. They attacked Canada because they thought it was their 'Manifest Destiny' or 'God given right' to rule all of North america. That's why they bought what originally was thought to be completely worthless land from Russia. (At least this is what we are taught in school) and from there it was because of American ignorance of Canada. I mean back in the day they use to think we lived in igloos and had no electricity! Nowadays it is because of certain Americans egocentrism completely miscounting Canada and other nations for the good they do around the world. Some of them even believe they won WWII alone. But overall I don't find Americans THAT bad.

Also, the war of 1812 is one of the main topics in Sociol Studies during certain years of highschool. I don't care if you were taught that in school or not. That is what the carriculum calls for.

I'd hazard a guess that most americans and canadians don't hate each other. You may be drawing your opinion from the nationalistic chest thumping teens that post on forums, but the average citizen of both countries tend to be far more tolerant. Go up to any city near the border and you'll find thousands of americans and canadians quite content with each other.
