According to my beliefs which you certainly can disagree with. Jews were (and still) responsible for a lot of conspiracies throughout history. Also, they were once the chosen people of God, but they betrayed this trust over and over. Also, they are known for monopoly and taking advantage of others. THIS IS ENTIRELY BASED ON MY BELIEFS, which I'm free to say and you are not obligated to listen. But they were and still Jews who do not fall into this category, and they themselves say the same about certain groups of Jews.GazaAli

Let me guess, you're Palestinian?

Probably because they massacred the spokesman of the most popular religion.

Is it possible to massacre one person?

Well, if they are resurrected...

[QUOTE="Darkman2007"] what are you talking about? Jews dont think themselves above everybody else, the concept of the chosen people has to do with religion , not race or ethnicity. and saying there is a good reason to put the Jews back in the gas chambers is actually very offensive.Darkman2007

well that's what i mean. That they behave like they are the chosen HOUSE of god and act ignorant & aggressive(towards what's left of Palestine mainly)on that because they're fufilling 'the prophecy' of Abraham or whoever to regain Zion

Of course i say the chamber thingsomewhat sarcastically because as i said, they ask for help and then act no better than those who tossed them in back in the day to get cooked/fumogated/skinned.

so its ok to hate all jews because someone disagrees with Israel??

i dont think so but to some people it might be.

i'd say perhaps because their stupid attitude that they are the 'chosen race' of the earth whilst everyone else beneath them. they cry for the world's attention & sympathy only to commit atrocities that would give us more than enough reason to toss them back or to have had left them in the gas chambers

And Christianity puts emphasis on "saving" non-Christians, because only those that have found Jesus will get into heaven. This sounds very familiar...

They were successful merchants in many cases..so that may be one of the contributing factors..

Also, Inb4 ignorant hating on Christianity..

Xx_Hopeless_xX
They were successful merchants because they weren't allowed by law in several places to own land, so they had to find another way to do it/ make a living. I guess my genetics are 1/8th Jewish. That makes me one of 'das Judens.' ^^

Back when the Jews were tolerated by the Roman Empire, the only jobs they were allowed were as bankers. Thus they developed a reputation as being "good with money," and historical studies suggest that this was considered a threat to various countries. The fact that Jews haven't had their own country after the Diaspora also heavily contributes to their persecution, as it's significantly easier to view them as cultural parasites leeching off everyone else's economy (this is how Hitler got everybody to hate them).

Why they were hated in history will have a different reason for each case with some similarities. I'm not a historical scholar so I don't know.

Either way, I don't feel they are all that hated in the present. From an American point of view, they're behind

BS about the Atheists. Nobody cares anymore, it's not the 1950s. The only way you'll get some weird looks is if you go into a hardcore southern church or something and tell people. Most people I know are atheist/agnostic.

The stigma might go back all the way to the crucifixtion and perhaps earlier, as they were sort of pariahs in Roman society even before that. Most of the modern hatred stems in some manner from institutionalized discrimination against them by the then-Christian ruled nations who passed laws prhibiting Jews from partaking in most apsects of everyday life and making the only profitable career path for them banking, as it was the only one where jews were not met with heavy restrictions and in fact liberated from restrictions against the Christian populations that said brothers in Christ could not charge each other interest on debts. The reputation of Jews as miserly money-grubbers arose from there and the unfortunate stereotypes against them persisted from the begginnings of modern European history until after World War Two.

Considering I can cite cases of atheists being borderline run out of town and that polls state a majority of americans cite atheists as the least trustworthy group of people and that a majority of America would not vote for an atheist....

Yeah, sorry, some still care. I have never met a single person who cares much about hating jews. Even neo-nazis.

Uh yeah not entirely true. It depends on your social circle and where you live, but "anti-atheism" is hardly restricted to southern churches. I'm not even atheist (I'm agnostic), I don't live in the south, and I went to one of the more progressive schools in my state for college. I had FOUR roommates across a span of 3 years literally refuse to talk to me after they found out I didn't go to church. My cousin, who IS atheist, has also had "friends" stop talking to him when he mentioned he was atheist. Neither of us hang out in "Christian" social circles. I won't say non-religious folks are widely persecuted or anything, but there's more than a handful of people out that there that genuinely hate us.

I'm under the impression it was the Romans who executed Jesus not the Jews. I think the main beef of Christians against the Jews stems from Judas Iscariot's betrayal. The main beef of Muslims against the Jews is pretty more recent. Up to the Crusades, Muslim and Jew got along well somewhat. At that time, Jerusalem was controlled by Muslims. But, they allowed the Jews to remain. Really, it was the Christians of western Europe who were the barbarians of the time. The Byzantines were Christians too. But, they too were also viewed with suspicion by the western Europeans. It was the European crusaders who put the Jews of Jerusalem to the sword when they captured the city.

In any case, I don't hate the Jews. I really have no hate towards a people except maybe the Japanese during WW2. But, I already shook off that line of thinking long ago.

Technically yes, but the Jews were the ones who sentenced Jesus. Of course, seeing as Christianity first became big in the Roman Empire, it stands to reason that the Roman involvement would be overlooked a bit. :P

I'm not too well-versed in the subject aside from what the Bible says, but the Bible's account makes it seem like the Jews (especially the ruling faction, Pharisees?) hated Jesus because his teachings went counter to theirs and they demanded he be executed. Pilate, the Roman governor they took him before, wanted nothing to do with it and told them to do what they like with Jesus, washing his hands of the situation. Of course, I have heard arguments that the issues surrounding the event were more complex, that the Jews had struck a decent balance with the Romans and were afraid of Jesus' faction disrupting that; that there were elements in the Roman government who wanted Jesus dead; and that people from both camps feared Jesus would eventually incite rebellion, directly or indirectly. I agree that much of the institutionalized discrimination against Jews came from Christian societies following the end of the middle ages, but without much knowledge of the preceeding era I wouldn't want to omit any possibilities.

It was still Pontius Pilate (a Roman) who sentenced Jesus. What the Jews did was choose poorly when they picked Barabbas. But, yeah. We're splitting hairs here.

at the time of Jesus, Judea was obviously under Roman occupation. At a time like that, there were many , many people claiming to be a messiah , in fact, Jesus was not THAT well known , but I think he caught the attention of the ruling Sadducees (priests and upper classes), because he challenged them essentially.

And there's a lot of ignorance surrounding the atheist position. I hear people all the time say that atheism is naturally immoral, that you can't have morality without god, that atheism is a ridiculous position and only agnosticism is viable as an ethos, and many other gross misunderstandings of agnosticism in general. Not to mention it's still useful in some instances as a slur, there was a candidate in North Carolina who was supposedly an atheist and her opponent was trying to use that to sour people on her. Who knows if it had worked has she actually been an atheist.

Bah, this type of history is easy. Now European Monarchies? That's hard. She's marrying him to get more prestige and her family hated his family but now they both hate this other family that used to be sort of in bed with his family. Then over here you've got insistence on royal rule, except when they don't like the ruler, then there are rebellions by certain groups, rulers in absentia, rulers being bused in from other countries, great electors and new order armies and all this crap. Makes my head spin.

I mean c'mon, they blamed them for the Black Plague, Hitler hated them, and they say the antichrist will slaughter the Jews. Why are Jews hated so much throughout history?

Virtual_Price

I think that it has to do with the fact that so many are very successful, so as a group they have influence that greatly exceeds what you'd expect from any other ethnic group in the world, considering their numbers.

Lol, so you're saying you've seen more hatred for Atheists than Jews? Where the hell do you live?

Why they were hated in history will have a different reason for each case with some similarities. I'm not a historical scholar so I don't know.

Either way, I don't feel they are all that hated in the present. From an American point of view, they're behind

In no particular order

Blacks

Gays

Transgender

Hispanics

Muslims

Atheists

You must live around some weird people.

America. Where do you live in the modern age (I.E. not BC or 1940's/30's) where the jews are currently hated and persecuted.

I'm not saying they are hated and persecuted nowadays, obviously they aren't. I just don't see how you can say atheists are more disliked than Jewish people. If anything it seems like Christians are hated on more by Atheists rather than vice versa.

No I'm not joking. You Atheists always whine about how Christian people are trying to convert you or you can't stand people trying to preach about God. Funny how I rarely see that, as most Christians I know really don't care if someone is an Atheist, and won't smother them with their beliefs. Yet I see Atheists always talking crap about Christians and how they are "stupid" for believing what they do.

I don't see any hate toward jews in this day. Muslims are far more disliked and persecuted in the west.

I never see christians persecuted. I see christians claiming they are persecuted because people want "In God we trust" removed from money. But that isn't persecution, thats loss of special treatment. Quite different.

Okay,maybe i was a bit harsh-but I was in a writing frenzy.

Things like that do exist-but it's really, really rare. The tensions in the Israeli jewish secular public are still, somewhat, in existence ,they're just mild. People called me a "stinking russian" before(usually in jest-and it haven't happend in a lot of years-still...),though-others get called other things. (as in there's no "majority" who is immuned) I would have compared it to the racial groups in the US-but that wouldn't have done it justice,That's not even in the same level as those rivalries...

It's like in every society-there's always a bit of animosity.I was trying to explain that it's not a racist thing,it's something that came out of the huge encounter between "veteran"Israelis and new immigrants with a different culture( the former USSR). That happened everytime a new group arrived in Israel(Romanians, germans, then the poles then the middle-easterns,then the russians then the ethiopians etc.). Those kids are just teenagers acting out(from what I gather-what's more shocking than joining a Neo-nazi group?Especially when you have jewish ancestry...).There are no real Neo-nazi groups in Israel, that's what I was trying to convey....I was trying to stress out-that it's very rare. The jewish population is generally very united.

grape_of_wrath

It's cool, the explanation is good enough. I hope in my life time I could meet at least one jewish person and understand them better. I think there are like no jews here ... the only one I know of was a doctor that my dad went to once and he was a holocaust survivor but he's dead now.. long before I was born =/

Technically losing the in god we trust affects christians, muslims and jews ;P

Oddly enough the symbols commonly associated with christianity is Jesus dead on the cross. Not Jesus resurrecting from the grave.

they got handed israel when it belonged to another people,

they seem quite different.

You're apparently not a very intelligent Atheist then, because Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone; "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" Romans 10:13.

Even if Christ is a path to God, I'm sure it's not the only one. A supreme being such as God probably wouldn't prescribe himself to just ONE of our pathetic attempts at structuring and understanding the desires and Will of a being none of us can even begin to fathom.

Lol, that's true--and what I assume you're talking about is the Cross in general, which symbolizes Jesus' death on the Cross, and we are told to come to the Cross and to bear our Cross.

God makes it perfectly clear that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, and no other way--and that humans cannot earn their way into Heaven, we cannot work our way into Heaven. The Bible also tells us everything we need to know, etc.

Well, since the dawn of Christianity, a big reason was that they were basically loan sharks, as it was against the church to make any money off of loaned money. So pretty much no one wanted to risk their money to receive nothing in return (gratitude isn't worth much to people), so Jews did that and became very wealthy as a result. With all of this extra cash they became quite good at business/merchanting and back in that time everyone hated the bourgeoisie, especially money lenders.

It also spawns from the irrationalness that seems to follow any kind of belief, which is the thought that not only did Jews kill Jesus, but they also refuse his teachings.

For the past couple of centuries, it seems to just be an international pastime of sorts.

No, Christianity has made it clear that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, God has never told me that.
