Why are people so hostile towards religious people?

I don't get it. Everyone I know who is religious is thoughtful, intelligent, and kind, with ignorant "stereotypical" religious people being in the minority. I'm not asking why you think the religion is stupid...I'm asking why so many people have some kind of hatred towards people who are religious?

Actually, if you look at studies, in the United States there is more hostility towards people who are atheists.

Every religious person I know is the exact opposite. I'm not trying to generalize, but I will constantly attack the religious behaviors I see as harmful. I'll also support benevolent religious behaviors when I see them, but as I said, in my personal experience that's not the norm.

As with a few other things, don't take this board to represent the majority of anything.

Wouldn't say I am hostile, but I am very hostile when provoked. Try preaching your religion to me, and I'll start preaching about how I think you're religion is ****ing stupid.

Anyway I'm a Christian and most of the people I go to church with are just as TC says, and a lot of the other churches in the area are the same way, so idk why that would be that way, it just is. Its because many of them tend to go after people who have different sexual preferences or force their religion on to other people rather than convince them. Atheists don't really attack, its more like they say" I don't believe in god" and all of a sudden because they don't believe in god they have attacked the christians.:o But no. You're right. In the general population. They're clearly more smart people than they are ignorant. Especially religious people.
