[QUOTE="frostybanana"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="frostybanana"] metalcore = heavy metal w/ hardcore punk influences deathcore = death metal w/ metalcore influences anything with -core at the end of it is basically an indication that the music has some sort of breakdown interlaced in it. which is why progressive metal bands like The Faceless are considered technical death metal and not deathcore. anyways, true there are plenty of elitist metalheads. it's because there are so many different variations on it and some of them, like the -cores are looked down upon because they shy away from their roots in favor of a more simplistic and generic sound. and since metal is heavily musicianship-based, simplicity is just something that people will look down their noses at.

Simplistic does not inherently mean the musicianship is lacking......

when referring to breakdowns, yes it does

That's not what you said though....

yes it is. i was speaking in the context of the -core genres, which I previously referred to as being defined as heavily breakdown-laden.

[QUOTE="SF_KiLLaMaN"] haha. metalcore? deathcore? WTF is that? Some of the stupidest names for a music genre.frostybanana

It gets even better, here is a deathcore bands song.

that's the most generic and awful deathcore band around. not really fair to post that to entail the entire genre...

To be fair to me, I doin't like deathcore at all because I can't stand breakdowns, pig squeals and to me, the majority of deathcore vocalists (that I have heard) try to be waaaay too brutal and guttural and abrasive, I actual tell people the difference between death metal and deathcore (people who actually like metal) is that if it sounds like someone's gutturals can be replaced by a pig, it's deathcore if it can't, it's death metal.

It gets on my nerves also. I usually listen to screamo, metalcore, deathcore. None of these are metal, sans metalcore which has metal/hardcore influence but is not straight metal.

That was both hilarious and horrible. How anyone can like that is beyond me.

While I don't (and the majority of people won't) like it, one shouldn't be too blind to see where the appeal might come from. I can see why people would like it, even though I don't fully understand it.

Personally, I've run into very few metalheads that are really elitist, most of the ones I've met are fairly open minded...if any of the others are anything like me, those "elitist comments" might just be because trolling other people about music is fun...:P

I'm only elitist when people call most metalcore, and numetal metal.

Because it really isn't

MasterC5

I agree. Nu-metal sounds like something that a suicidal person would listen to. Sometimes, metalcore can be cool, but most of it is a hit and miss.

Sorry, but guttural vocals are guttural vocals, not screamo. If you want to insult music, at least know what you're talking about.

*Disclaimer: That last statement, was in no way aimed at you Espada.

Bluestorm-Kalas

It's cool, I can tell the difference, if they really want screamo they can listen to some underoath...

Soul and emotion??? Why do you think I listen to Metal. Sure its usually anger if its not symphonic or power or folk metal (which I listen to half the time in any case,) but anger and energy also serve their purpose; without the energy and ego that I developed from listening to Heavy Metal, I would never have become anything more than a shy and oversensitive massive introvert; the energy, anger and ego in metal balanced me out and I will always be grateful to Metal for that (Yes, Heavy metal is my medicine :D .) How can you say that a metal artist doesn't give every inch of his being into a metal song? Metal is one of the most emotively charged genre I have ever heard, and thankfully its not retrospective or optimistic or sad like most other music with a soul. IO am already optimistic and retrospective, far too much so, the last thing I need is to listen ot music like that.

Not sure what you are saying here. Anger and rage are emotions too. I love those kinds of songs. But "true" music in my eyes comes from the soul, and whether it be energetic or pessimistic or brutally honest with the ugly side of life is just fine IMO. Nevermore covers that as well.

My favorite artists are dynamic and change based on their maturation with being a true artist, and that my friend, is keeping it real.
