In every depiction of the "first humans on earth" that I have ever seen, they (Adam & Eve) always have belly buttons. I'd like to know how this is possible. Or is this just another error on the part of christians not getting their facts in order before attempting to sell their stories to the public? It's not like they need to have belly buttons in order for the rest of us to relate to them better. :? Jeez, they could always just explain to people why they aren't there...

And please, try and refrain from elementary level responses such as, "god gave them belly buttons cause he felt like it! So phooey on you! Who are you to question what god does?!?! Rah rah rah..."

Maybe the artists decided to give them belly buttons so they wouldn't look like freaks, or it was just an oversight on the part of the artists.

they were supposedly made in the image of god, so i guess god has a belly button, and therefore was born from someone else. that is the literal understanding, but being an ahteist/agnostic i dont believe it.

Because paintings aren't accurate depictions of reality. They are depictions of the artist's imagination.

Ummm, assuming that the Adam and Eve story is true, who was around to take their pictures? If anything the depictions were based off of real people that posed for earlier paintings and such

It's either the belief is that they had them when they were created or it was an artist's doing to input realism.

So people just assume things about religious stories? Oops, that wouldn't lend much credibility to them, would they? And realism? Really? Didn't you read what I said about people being able to relate, even if the belly buttons weren't there?

I'm just sayin...if I was a leader of the church, and I wanted to convince people of a certain story being true, I'd want any visual aids that went along with it to be as accurate as possible. You know, to keep those pesky athiests from stretching out the loopholes. Nip it in the bud, ya know what I'm sayin, mayne? Ya knaw mean? Word up son? Fa' sho', yo?

because god is a giant flying uterus/vagina. That is why they have belly buttons.

it kind of resembles a spaghetti monster acually.

not to mention the church already agreed that its just a metaphor for something, which anyone with half a brain would acually realize that we all didnt come from 2 people.

Exactly, if they didn't escape the matrix we would all be batteries for a self-aware self-sufficient super computer matrix. You see Adam & Eve were pawns in this network of tyranny.

MY THEORY!

Here how it could of happen.

A sea creature comes out of the water (is it a caveman? a human? no its just a $%#ing sea creature!)

what more creatures? (yes more! they came from a 2000 billion year old rock from the sea! are these monsters?who knows?)

they can breath Oxygen? maybe they also breath other things from underwater? or both?

they stay above land for long time. its time for evolution! so their gills or whatever gets remove because its not needed. (how? its because one of the babies wasn't born with it because of time trait. so is it another ugly baby? who knows)

now hair is from other babys and bones are started to be change.

Wow!!! a caveman!

more caveman have sex with other pre-cavemen and makes more different traits

omg and human with a belly button!

omg more!

now its a smart baby

all cavemen die from war!

holy #$%# HUMANS!

this is my theory btw! hope you enjoy the strange story :D

Perhaps mutations via exposure to retro radioactive tar. Either that or everyone else got that disease that causes skin to lose pigmentation therefore lose color (turn white.)

Because a difference in chromosome determines our sex. It doesn't determine if we have nipples or not. Sex isn't determined until later stages of development and the nipples don't fall off.

Well, I think the artists did this because they may not have known that the belly button is formed after the umbilical cord is cut. They may have thought that the belly button is just there. Yes, I think it is quite possible that said artists were not educated in the area of childbirth.

However, it is also possible that said artists felt that the pictures would look nicer if Adam and Eve had belly buttons.

Well, it just seems to me, if you're the kind of person who accepts the God model of creation, who created everything perfectly and in balance, then what's even the point of giving men nipples when we have no use for them.

Then I guess if you choose to believe instead of aknowledge... I guess this question is just another thing among the many things that contradict your beliefs. I know I can't give you an honest answer that you will like or accept. Asking why men have nipples is like asking why water doesn't taste like soda pop. If you won't accept the evident answers I guess the only thing we can tell is... just because. We have nipples just because.

Both male and female are built with the same gentic material. The nipples don't simply fall when and if our gender is determined to be male. It just doesn't work that way. Chromosomes determine you to be either male or female. As complicated as the human form is it's still simple. Simplicity is perfect, because simplicty reduces mistakes. Complexity increase the chance of error.

If god's design were perfect nobody would have down syndrome and nobody would be born with impaired vision. Nobody would develope tumors or cancers. Twins wouldn't be born with their heads fused together.

The design is selective. Because we ourselves are made up of other living organisms. Each of us is an ecosystem, a vessel for smaller life forms. They do what we do as we do what we do. The human is an infrastructure not a singular being.

To make you come up with these questions, confusing others around you. The artist wanted to make you think and feel what the painting or drawing was about.

Lol, I have no clue.

They could have just not had belly buttons...and when some kid asks, "how come they don't have belly buttons?", it could be easily explained that they were the first humans, so they were never attached to an umbilical cord. Really, how hard is that? :?

Not if they understood why they didn't have them.

So is it ok to create a false depiction of supposedly real people, just because some might be uncomfortable with what they see? This still isn't doing christianity any favors when it comes to accuracy, or how much they care for it. And if they don't care to be accurate when attempting to convince people that their story is true, especially something of this magnitude, which supposedly defines our very foundation, then I'd be a little skeptical as to how accurate anything else they teach would be.

And if you think it's only a minor detail, well then...

Honestly, I don't know how exactly Adam and Eve looks like. But one thing for certain there were a man and a woman.

The drawings may or may not be accurate since no one has seen them before, but since Adam was the first man and Eve was the first woman (in human form), it is only logical to include a belly button too.

Logical? The whole point of this is how it's ILLOGICAL! No umbilical cord = no belly button.

It just goes to show that church leaders aren't paying attention to the details. Details are important. After all, they're claiming ultimate truth with the things they teach, with no evidence. They least they could do would be to scan their own stories for any possible flaws before releasing them to the rest of the world. Don't ya think? It might help...

They're just not paying attention...tsk tsk.

For humans not to have belly buttons can be deemed as weird, and no genetical disorder can do otherwise since we need to have an umbilical cord attached to us.

Since God created Adam, the first human, from scratch, it is reasonable to include a belly button in the pictures so that he is like any other human. And for certain God created Adam like any other man.

The artists gave them belly buttons obviously gave them belly buttons to make them look human, and probably overlooked the fact that it wouldn't make sense. It's not something to blame Christianity for, they didn't say Adam and Eve had belly buttons.

But really, most of that story and what follows afterwards are more symbolic and I kind of doubt their existence, or at least that it happened in the way the Bible explains.

 That's a good question. But the artists didn't really paint the real Adam & Eve, I'd be surprised if anyone got anything right, from hight, eye colour, hair, skin and other proportions... if you picture it as being symbolics then it's all good.
