I'm not American, but I watch a lot of American films, tv shows, sitcoms etc. I noticed that they always make fun of the french.
Why is that?

Without France America would not exist. Toriko42
True, and we were pretty cool with the French because of that until they copied our revolution and acted like they were the ones who came up with the whole idea. Oh yeah, and have you seen their flag? Red, white, and blue. Uh, remind you of any other country's flag's color scheme?
Then there's the fact that our troubles with the Brits were due in large part to having to fight a war with the French prior to the revolutionary war which means they started the whole mess in the first place. Oh yeah, and then when the French tried to make it all up to us they do it by giving us a bronze statue in a freaking harbor. So now we have this giant, ugly, rusted, green statue that was the first thing every immigrant to the US saw when entering the US, and has also become one of the most recognizable images of the US. Thanks a lot France.

France gave America the Lousiana Territory effictively doubling the size, I think France did more good then bad. And about the flag, that is very much true. Can't blame them too much though, the colours did have some meaning to them and because of America the colours were a symbol of revolution hence why they adopted it.[QUOTE="gameguy6700"][QUOTE="Toriko42"]Without France America would not exist. Now you may be saying "hey, that's a pretty good deal" until you realize what we got with the Louisiana Purchase: the central US. The only reason Monroe agreed to pay for that godforsaken land was because France told him we'd be getting Canada along with it. Then they backed out after we paid telling us that they didn't remember selling us Canada and that if we were telling the truth then where was the reciept?
I wasn't aware we did. Hmm.....I'm NOT stopping drinking French wine.
PS...don't beleve everything in the media. ;)
Hmmm, maybe France should take back the Statue of Liberty they gave the Americans999realthings
They should. The damn thing is an eyesore.

[QUOTE="Whicker89"][QUOTE="Dante2710"]should i go around harassing them and calling the morons? its a matter of opinion whether u like it or notDante2710Its a moronic opinion because you dont agree with it? good to know :roll:Because its wrong. Its similar to saying The white race is the greatest, You cant say its moronic if you dont agree with it.
[QUOTE="jointed"] You have all the right in the world to tell them how idiotic their opinion is.Dante2710based on what? i have no idea what that person`s opinion is based on, and i get no satisfaction from calling other people names, but whatever works for u I do, it's based on ignorance. And why would one use the rustics of name calling? Just camly point out how idiotic their opinion is. You'll never do that however, because you support this kind of erroneous logic apparently.

yes that is true, the french have won many battles the joke arrises from World War 2 when France surrenered almost immediatley. Also on topic I live in America and I don't hate the french, the tv shows and other media you see making fun of the french are purley for comedic purposes

Of course, the notion that it's the US that "saved their asses" is questionable to begin with; IIRC from high school history, the allied victory had more to do with the British holding out long enough for Hitler to turn against the Soviet Union, which in turn used a Scorched Earth Policy, damaging the Nazi army even further. So to even thank past Americans for the victory is already questionable enough.

So why not make fun of blacks, then? I don't seem to see them targeted near as much as the French. Be careful about assuming "comedic purposes"; jokes themselves tend to have underlying serious messages.
England would have fallen if Hitler didn't stop bombing airbases and military facilities.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQEcMTSgg5w

England would have fallen if Hitler didn't stop bombing airbases and military facilities. What are you talking about? I don't remember that from high school history, and either way, what does that have to do with crediting Americans with allied victory?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQEcMTSgg5w

On of Hitler's He-111 bombers was on a raid and released it's bombs over London. The British responded with a raid on Berlin. Hitler got pissed and focused his bombings on cities and anti-air defenses. With the bombers focusing on the cities and not the airfields, it gave the Royal Air Force a bit of breathing room. Please Log In to post.
