That's only in the movies. I know when I get home, my shoes are the first thing to be removed off my feet.MistressMinako
Is there a way to remove your socks first or something? :P

Well, I have done something like that before when my socks slide off my feet while wearing shoes! Well, half way off.[QUOTE="Robbazking"]
I'm from Scandinavia and here everyone takes their shoes off, but in movies and on youtube people usually got their shoes on and it's almost always Americans? What's up with that.
Aren't people scared to get **** on the rug?xWoW_Rougex
what mixed responses I think we all agree that we take our shoes off when we are hanging out at home. LOL doors unlocked my house it locked up like fort knox(due to expensive stuff in my home). You realize these are TV shows right.
Pretty much. I love how in the movies when they're just relaxing watching TV, they're wearing shoes, jackets, hats, etc. Who wears all that in their house? Hi [QUOTE="UnknownSniper65"]
Most people take off their shoes in the United States too...just not in movies.

I always have my shoes off in my house. And like other people said the only time I put them on is if I'm getting ready to leave.
seriously, I usually just hang out in a t shirt/tank and shorts at home. Why add needless clothes when you dont have to?Allicrombie
These are my sentiments exactly and one reason why I dislike the cold.
The only time I would wear shoes in my place is when I would come home for lunch (I worked around the corner from where I live). The only time I wear anything in my apartment is in the winter when I wear slippers. I prefer wearing as few clothes as possible unless I have no choice but to wear more (like work or running errands).

Well let me put it this way: The only nations on Earth I knew people took their shoes off inside were Japan and Scandinavian countries.
I'm from Europe and everybody used shoes inside here. Though it's not a rule, not many people use simply socks.
I take my shoes off when I get to my room when I am at home only if I am not going to go anywhere for a couple hours. Now when I go over someones house, I never take off my shoes unless I am staying the night for when I got to bed. Otherwise I never take my shoes off outside of my own house.
It's weird (if you want to call it that) because shoes are made for outdoor use typically. walking from your TV to the bathroom doesn't require footware. I don't see it as weird. I just don't get why you'd want to wear them if you didn't have to though.Uh what?
I dont think its just Americans.
And whats weird if people keep their shoes on when inside?
I usually take them off because its tiring, but not because I think its weird or something.

I am not saying it isnt weird for someone to wake up in the morning and wear shoes just to do chores inside the house, but I wouldnt find it weird at all if someone returns from outside with their shoes on but doesnt take them off until they go to sleep. I might only think "isnt he/she tired walking in shoes?" but other than that I dont find it weird at all. Also I guess it depends on the shoes. If its a woman wearing high-heels insider the house for no special reason then yeah its kinda weird I guess.[QUOTE="Teenaged"]

I'm from Wales some houses I go to the owner asks us to take off our shoes before entering (which I think is rude) but most people wear shoes inside or slippers. What if you need to leave the house in a hurry? What if there's something laying on the floor that could hurt your feet? a piece of broken glass in the kitchen etc?
I never did understand why on TV people leave their shoes on. In my house, they definitely come off. We even have those blue things you put over your shoes.
I take my shoes off when at my home, though I will keep them on in a friend's house unless they are dirty.
Most people naturally take their shoes off when they get home but not necessarily at the door. When everyone takes them off before entering you typically end up with an awkward stack of shoes at the entrance. That may just be because some people are lazy and/or own a lot of different shoes though.
A question for non-Americans: What if you have like a dozen or more people over your house for a holiday or party? Does everyone still take off their shoes? Cause to most Americans I think that would be weird.
well, i live in america, but many of the indo-pakistani parties i go to, there are always shoes all over the floor. never in piles--jumbled, paired, but never in piles. i don't really go to parties unless i have to, and these indo-pak ones are the ones where i have to... really, i've always thought it nasty that some people don't take off their shoes at home. it's the floor, but its YOUR floor. and if it's high carpet, it just makes everything a little worse. taking off your shoes is just polite, and more homely and relaxed. when you take them off, i take it as 1) you wouldn't want to dirty up the house that I or my family worked so hard to clean 2) you'd like to stay at my place a bit and are not in a hurry and 3) trust that there's nothing dangerous on the floor (who the crap leaves broken glass in their kitchen? seriously people). if you don't trust, or you're in a hurry, then just stay on the doorstep. Most people naturally take their shoes off when they get home but not necessarily at the door.
