Why do most young teenagers like rap so much?

I cry ...now young boys (like me ) just want to look tough.

I mean there is good Rap music but its covered with dust : Missy Elliot , Black Eyed Peas ( I hate ferggie so much now ) , outkast , roots and a lot more . A lot of rap from the grand theft auto san andreas soundtrack was pretty good , the rap from GTA 4 was garbage ( one game was in the 80s or early 90s , other one was in modern times)

Why do people like overrated bands like Fallout boys? Because their ignorant of anything of better quality?

I'd like to say something to these "ROKz0rsZ1 4 LI3f!!" fans that have been saying a few things about rap:

1. You are obviously ignorant about rap because although mainstream rap is full of these monikers, it doesn't mean all rap is crap.

2. Listen to Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, N.W.A, Run DMC, the Roots, Grandmaster Flash, Ice Cube and you tell me if this is your average crap rap. You'll find out that you have been wrong about rap.

3. To the guy that said that rap stars never toured with rock bands, what about Aerosmith/Run DMC, Public Enemy/Anthrax, Ice Cube/Korn, etc. If it weren't for Public Enemy and Anthrax, there would be no Slipknot, Disturbed, Korn, or any other nu metal band.

If you still think rap is horrible, I'm gonna recommend some of the best rap albums you'll ever hear and maybe you'll change your mind, maybe not. At least sell those albums to someone who wants them.

You can make produce your own beats. It actually can be really fun to make an intricate beat people will nod there head to. You can sample from older songs or build it from scratch. Adding intelligent lyrics with nice flow can be a challenge also. And please, people have different definitions of fun. Just like some people don't find videogames fun and think of it as a waste of time.

But what if you dont have a good computer to download any beat systems or anything of that sort, or internet for that matter, like if i wanted to play a song on the guiter but didint have a computer for tabs i could go to the music store and ask them to print me off sheet music for like a few bucks.

It's because it makes teens think that they have a gripe against society when they are really just a middle-class white kid living a life of leisure. They want something to complain against that for them is superficial so that they sound important, since they never had to live in places like the ghetto. It's an inferiority thing.

Me, I grew up on 80's metal and prog rock, and have only recently gotten into oldschool rap. There is nothing to modern rap, except for the glorification of sex, drugs, alcohol, gangs, gang violence, and dead-end paths in life. Indeed, if I wanted to listen to bad poetry, I'd go to a primary school poetry recital.

Most kids in the UK like the boring mainstream Indy stuff.

The Chavs like all the Pop and Rap stuff.

The Emos like crappy emo music, whichwas the main thing for a time.

A fair amount of people listen to metal though.

Rap is the downfall of the music industry, and society in general. Why you may ask?

1) Rap promotes "gangstas". You all know the people I am referencing. The baggy pants, sideways hat, "I'm-white-only-on-the-outside", wanna be gang bangers. They talk in the latest ebonics to their other homey friends. Travel in groups to intimidate people, because fighting solo they are usually weak and unskilled. If rap didn't exist, it would not be marketed to these disenfranchised youth, who then model their lives after this type of music. Why I hate rap is everything that comes with it, not just the music itself.

2) Their lyrics are contrived and poorly written. "I love you like a fat kid loves cake" - was a lyric in a best selling rap single. Enough said.

You think they just put on a beat, rap over it and thats it? Have you thought about who makes the beat? Who produces it? I'm not a big fan of rap but you're being completely ignorant here. Rap can be very experimental with instrumentation and dynamics. You shouldn't judge an entire genre by its mainstream artists alone.

Some people like melodic music, others like complicated music, others are about the groove and the bass hitting them in the chest. ALL music takes skill to write and produce. If you'd like to disprove me then please make a serious rap song that isn't a parody and show it to me.

I've went through a phase where I listened to rap as well as rock. I still appreciate those genres of music til this day. I usually only listen to electronica now though. I love reading some of the ignorant responses on the first page. People don't like a certain genre because they think it's "cool", people listen to that genre because they enjoy that certain type of music. it's as simple as that, I've been listening to alternative rock and hip-hop and never once did I start listening to one genre because I thought it was the cool thing to do. andyboiii

i'm glad you brought that up because I've noticed most of the people who defend rap are more open minded about listening to many genres of music then most of the ones who diss it
