So when I talk to people on the internet, they say their favorite type of music is "dubstep". So I looked into it and listened to a couple of songs, and it just sounded like repetitive techno to me. But it probably wouldn't be fair to judge a genre that I know little about, so I was wondering if you could give me a link to your favorite dubstep songs, so I could farily judge it. And I would also appreciate if you could answer the question of "why do people love dubstep so much?".

Dubstep is awful. I don't even see the appeal. It's not even good when you're ****ed up

I enjoy listening to dubstep. However, its pointless if you just listen to it through speakers or headphones. You need a subwoofer to truly appreciate it.

Its the Bass that makes dubstep enjoyable. Theres nothing quite like feeling the room shake as you listen to dubstep.

Like any genre it has its good and bad songs, and it's relatively new (in terms of popularity), plus you know, it has dat bass wop wop wop wop wop.

Dubsteps from Croydon

Massive rioting and looting in Croydon

A correlation?

Definately - it was all bass fuelled thievery. Mark my words you listen to that stuff and you'll be straight down the local 7-11 filling your pockets with Mars Bars.

I just really like dubstep because it sounds good to me... I don't really know how to explain it other than that.

Everyone likes different kinds of music...

I only usually like dubstep if it has some sort of vocal sampling in it: Example (language warning).
Though there are obviously exceptions: Example.

I would say that producing a good electronic piece doesn't take as much talent as, say, a good piano piece. Though to say that no talent or soul goes into it would be ridiculous.

Because it's trendy that's why. Electronic music would have been better off without this genre.

I've listened to some of it and I don't like 95% of what I've heard. Most of it's too ghetto for me.

Someone turned me on to this and it's pretty awesome

Pfft, whatever. Electronic music IS created with instruments. The instruments are just (mostly) electronic.

A few artists use said instruments well, but most don't. Dubstep seems to have an absurdly-high concentration of talentless "artists" doing the same thing over and over and over again. I can count the number of decent dubstep artists I've heard on one hand.

My thoughts exactly.is this what europeans are listening to? Hell in america its still pop/rap/hip-hop/rock as its always been unless i've heard it but didn't know what the heck it is and mistaken it for some other genre.

lmfao I listen to it quite a bit because it's different and it has a lot of different sounds and types. It's just like any other electronic genre.

Some of the brostep is a little bit over the top. But it's all in good fun. Rusko and cookie monsta are pretty good. So if anyone's interested check them out

Alright so from what I gathered, most dubstep songs sound like they are building to a climax, but the climax never happens.

My wife didn't like dubstep... until she sat on the sub.Rusteater

^ Dubstep buzz me.

You can't truly appreciate it unless you're raving it out and feeling it in your bones. Still I'm partial to a bit of casual dubstep listening of an eve and I especially like good dubstep remixes of songs I already like, here be some of my less obtuse favourites, nowt new recently really:

Mt Eden - Sierra Leone
Chrispy/Rihanna - Rude Boy
Roksonix/Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek
Chase & Status - Running/Blind Faith
Caspa & Rusko - Rock Bottom/Rainbow Teardrops

And it's not really dubstep but I'm still gonna post this because I've been f****** addicted to it recently.

Because that show has terrible writing. And the jokes are so bad, that if I told you to write the worst possible jokes that you could write, they wouldn't be as bad as the jokes on Glee.

Noise with no real emotion. Give me power metal anyday.

Starshine_M2A2

because power metal has so much emotion. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite genres, but most bands that people say are emotional just end up writing songs like other bands in the genre. Plus, dragons aren't emotional (I know not all PM is fantasy). Plus, symphonic metal is where it's at.

I hate dubstep, I like transe and others though. I'd say that this is even more true when it comes to hard rock, repetitive nonsense.
