Best pencil ever. I prefer everything about wooden pencils over mechanical ones. The price, the feel, the durability; it's the perfect non-ink writing utensil.
I was just about to post how I love a nicely sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga. For realz.Best pencil ever. I prefer everything about wooden pencils over mechanical ones. The price, the feel, the durability; it's the perfect non-ink writing utensil.

I don't like not being able to see when the lead's about to run out.-Makaveli-Or trying to refill it with lead when the eraser is gone.
I prefer mechanical ones. I tend to write best with a sharp pencil, so with a mechanical one I don't have to keep sharpening it.
Wooden pencils are horrible. Nothing is as bad as starting out with nice, small, easy to read words when the pencil is sharp and by the end of the page you are writing huge fat letters because the pencil is so dull. Everything is consistent with a mechanical pencil and you can fill it up with enough lead to last for months. The inconvenience of a broken piece of lead is nothing compared to the inconvenience of having to sharpen a wooden pencil.
I suspect wooden pencils will always be around because artists have a legitimate use for them and people like to get a sense of sophistication from using something "natural." There are always people who will want to show off how "classic" they are. Its the same reason some people still roll their own cigarettes and shave with straight razors.
I prefer wooden pencils with drawing, but for general writing stuff I prefer a mechanical pencil or a pen.
I only use the wooden pencils on standardized tests because they usually want you to. Other from that, I am strictly a mechanical pencil user. I like the way they write and they're just easier to deal with.t3hrubikscubeweird, in our tests over here they're strictly banned frrom KS1 (first 3 years) except for grapphs and diagrams
Perhaps for an artist, it feels and glides better.... just assuming....DJCUEBALL
Actually it's because we can turn them on their sides and use the broad edge of the graphite. This creates a much smoother effect. Graphite sticks could also work, but they're messy.
Nothing beats a sharpened Dixon Ticonderoga #2 soft pencil. It's a beast for drawing and writing. I just wish my school had better pencil sharpeners. I'm too lazy to bring my own. Mechanical pencils are okay, I don't mind them. They always stay sharp, but when I draw with them, it isn't the same as a ticonderoga. Plus, the eraser gets worn out faster.the_foreign_guyThe eraser gets worn out faster? It's not like there is only one brand.

Yeah, but I said I wasn't really talking about for art; I just meant for writing. Okay, maybe that's not exactly what I said, but it was kind of implied.Wooden pencils are horrible. Who writes with a pencil? Use a pen.
Mechanical pencils? are you from the future?Wozmcfc
Behold, decades old technology from...the future!
i hate reflling on mechanical pencils..., the lead tends to break more easily and i always end up clicking it/ playing with it/ trying to put the lead back in to put the pencil away only to find i need to use it again so now i have to click even mroe.
It also jams. and the reg. pencil can be sharpened using scissors if i dont have a sharpener while the mech one needs to be refilled with lead i might not have. but then i might not have a scissor either so both are just as inconvenient.
i find them just as handy as a regular pencil so i use them based on whatever i have... but i like the REAL pencils more
