Why do teens these days think that getting wasted/drunk is cool?

Its a rebel thing, I participated, my parents participated and my grandparents did it too. You're supposed to grow out of it but I know a lot of people who didn't and they probably fit the profile for an alcoholic now.

I have yet to come across a teen who thinks it's cool. It's just a thing to do with your mates and have fun. There's nothing wrong with it, it's not harming you is it? Stay out of other peoples lives and stop judging them just because they drink.

I was apparently INSISTING with people the other night when we drank to celebrate my friends 22nd birthday that this girl named Cat was actually named Nichole and we only called her Cat "sometimes".:P

But yeah, I went too crazy that night and I am going back to the style of drinking you described there. I actually used to do that untill I got accidentally drunk and then I have gotten wasted most of the time when I drank since and I have just been getting a tad bit out of hand.

I haven't actually DONE anything too crazy yet, but I said crazy things and did try to do something crazy which was to lose my virginity to the girl who I was calling by a different name and who I had rejected before. Thank God she said no or else I wouldn't have been able to remember my first time....

Seriously, I know a couple of kids on forums who are like 15-17 and they keep taking pictures of them holding a beer bottle to make themselves look cooler, and then talk about how "real drinkers" stay wasted overnight etc...

Really, they should just remove the age limit because it's making people(mostly teens) think that "drinking" is like a privilege when it's not. Drinking alcohol doesn't make you any cooler than if you liked Sprite or Coca Cola. th3warr1or

They probably just chug it down to achieve the buzz or simply get drunk.

I think it's suppose to be the social norm in high school. You're made to think that from when you're a child and see on the tv teenagers at parties getting drunk. They think it's what people do. It's not just kids these days it's been happening for generations.

I have a funny story about this though. Me and my friend were sitting in class, we don't drink, but my friend went to a party one night, and everyone was saying they saw her at the party.

She said, "yeah I went but I don't drink"
This girl sitting next to us turns to her and goes "You've never been drunk? How old are you?"
My friend says "I'm 16 and I've never been drunk"
The girl says "You're a liar."

I guess you're a liar if you haven't been drunk at the age of 16 now.

Our society definitely needs some changes. I actually didn't get pressured as much into drinking but apparently there are people doing that, and then in terms with sex I actually have been getting told to just "go out and screw" the one girl who I had rejected, and of course I then tried taking that advice while totally wasted....

It sucks having integrity nowadays I swear....

That's the thing that's bothered me about straight edge. A lot of those people will avoid any parties or gatherings that involve drugs or alcohol. You don't have to drink to be cool, but avoiding people for the sole reason that they chose to drink is pretty anti social, in my books anyway.

This kind of stuff has been happening since way beyond our generation.

I'm 17 and I drink occasionally because it makes a night better for me. If someone takes a photo of me drinking I don't really feel the need to post it on Gamespot because I don't have to try and impress anyone on this website.

But I know what you mean TC. These 15 year old girls I know each had a bottle of bud each and all they wanted to do was take photos of them holding the drink and making drunk faces.
