They all have there reasons but most of it goes down to respect from there parents and they don't want to be treated like kids, so rebellion pretty much...
I don't think its cool at all, I am 15 and I have never drinkin ANY alcohol. I don't see the hype in drugs either.

I didn't see the hype in getting drunk either, then earlier this year I got drunk for the first time and had a great time. Hey it's good fun. I love getting a good buzz going, having a few beers. I'm 21, but I did drink as a teen.

I don't see what's fun about unconciously jumping into a field of grass, landing on a rock and breaking your arm (which my friend did) and literally spoiled an entire party for us. Obviously I didn't laugh at him but my favourites include the smart drunks, the drunks that can't form sentances and the ones that do anything people tell them to while drunk.

Given the situation your right, but look at society and how socialy acceptable drinking and smoking pot is now... I mean just some movies in recent years you wouldn't even come close to seeing 15 or 20 years ago... old school, road trip, every lame as hell vanwilder movie, every dumb american pie movie, harold and kumar series, the hangover ect.. I mean, I did enjoy those movies for the most part but they scream HEY BE A STUPID A$$ BRO! and get wasted and try and make crazy alcoholic adventures like you see in the movies.. Well in reality that is just how they are influenced. Granted I started drinking when I was 17 I didn't try and portray the movies or any of that. Guess myself and the people I hung around with were more self aware of the situations and new how to control our environment and prepare for getting stupid drunk. However sadly to say a majority of the tweeny, hey lets try and be like the guys from beer fest crowd are morons and just look plain stupid.. And closing statement its fun have some crazy drinking stories and parties from high school/ college but to be frank when I see a slew of 15 year old "bras" with their crooked perfect shape White Sox or NY hat and popped collar polo or "salmon" (ITS PINK!) button shirt flashing gang signs at a camera (white kids, and black kids who never seen gang life or black opresion.)in a dimly lit pool room from his rich friends moms house is just the most repugnant thing you could do.

Actually he isn't, he's drinking for the side effects of alcohol, that is being buzzed and drunk. It makes you feel pretty good, more sociable, forget about normal problems and anxiety. It helps to enjoy yourself more. Yea, you could have a good time without alcohol but alcohol can make a good time even better and it's not all about being cool. Water or coca-cola won't give you the effects of alcohol. I'll have a few beers to myself every now and again to relax after work, not to be cool, who am I trying to impress? Of course alcohol is bad for you but I'm young, what do I care. I'm in my twenties, might as well have a good time while I still can. Hey, beer has less calories than a can of coke and tastes much better.
Teenagers getting drunk is nothing new. Technology has just changed. You don't think teens were getting wasted and banging each other, 60 years ago, whenever they had the opportunity? Talk to your grandparents and see what they have to say on the subject, if they're willing to be candid. Digital cameras and the internet didn't become available for the consumer market until the 1990s. And even then, it was much more limited than what it is now. Now, you could essentially take a photo of your wasted friend and upload said photo to facebook or something in a matter of minutes.

I'm 17 but this question is also very interesting to me. I don't drink alcohol - it is true, I don't smoke - also true. Why they do it? To look cool I guess but I have to tell you - drinking is not the thing I want to do - HONESTLY DRINKING MAKES ME FEEL SICK - NO JOKE. I set apart that's why I get some negative comments from others.
