I've come to the point with Fox news where I can no longer respect them. I just can't take a self-described "news" network seriously when they give someone like Glenn Beck a platform to spew his vile nonsense. Say what you want about people such as Keith Olbermann - Olbermann's never called conservatism a cancer that's inflicted this country that needs to be purged.

Glenn Beck constantly goes on these elaborate rants about how progressivism is a cancer and is a threat to this country, how it needs to be eradicated, how social and economic justice are somehow codewords for Marxism (and he goes on to compare Marxism to Nazism and all the horrid things that are associated with the nazi's) and how America is losing its greatness because Americans no longer have faith in God. A responsible news network that is serious about honesty and the truth wouldn't give a man like that an hour every single day of the week to preach his hate.

For the same reason people on the right don't care for MSNBC or comedy central, they represent an alternate viewpoint or alternate party. However, O'riely is an independant and Beck is libertairion so all the conservatives there don't completely back the Republicans. That's probably why they are so appealing, since they do offer alternate viewpoints.

[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="DaBrainz"]

Why?

I disagree with almost everything O'Reilly says but I find him to be one of the most respectful opinion show hosts on cable news.

DaBrainz

*boggle* Respectful? Really?

Sorry, I'm not going to watch your youtube videos (I'm at work). Why don't you try to substantiate your own argument?

I'm watch MSNBC and Foxnews on a daily basis. The only 2 people I find reasonable on any channel are Chris Matthews and Bill O'Reilly. The rest of them are kinda nutty to extremely nutty.

I don't watch TV news, but the video is a collection of O'Reilly telling guests to "shut up". I also remember hearing him on Fresh Air, when he had a calm quiet conversation until about 2 minutes before the end of the interview, when he manufactured offense at some question from the interviewer and stormed out, then bragged on his own show about how he had basically pwned the liberal media. I'm sure he's entertaining, but respectful is not a word I can see being applied to him.

to me MSNBC and NBC are your Liberal version of Fox News. CNN is about as close to what we have to objective news based in this country. Problem with cable news is it needs an audience, and lets be honost here (i love the news, and i love history - stuff that bores people). the news is BORING. so let's put up a Glenn Beck to talk about how the left will bring about Communism and Nazism for the umpteenth time, lets put up a Keith olbermann talk about how Bush is gonna bring about a 1984 world. or Wolf Blitzer/Cooper/someone from CNN! - go incessantly into hypothetical what if's. None of those things are news, they talk what is happening in the news, and twist and play with it. and depending on ones OWN political leanings. They will say Fox News really is fair and balanced, or MSNBC/NBC is really speaking out the truth.

He does have some valid points, but for the most part your description is accurate. Guess that is why he lost his job at CNN and is at Fox. Given enough time he will probably be only a radio figure.

Even on CNN he wasn't this bad - his show was still grounded in reality. Now all it is is pure right-wing propaganda, with little tidbits of truth sprinkled here and there, but it's completely divorced from reality and a lot of it is very hateful.

Because they try to manipulate dumb people into their ridiculous crap. And often they succeed.

1KyardStare

You mean kind of like what CNN and MSNBC do with their audience.

There is no difference between CNN's Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer and Fox's Bill O'Rielly or Gretta Van Sustern, commentary from both political leanings not unbiased news reporting. Every "News Organization" has their political leanings, from Time to the National Review. It just so happens that most people on these forums have leftist leanings and a bias against conservative "news" (commentary).

The differences is that Fox gives a radical and fearful based reporting (commentary) on their facts...The far right takes the info giving on the news and goes out and spits on congressmen that vote for bills and throw bricks in windows. The commentary from MSNBC and CNN don't appeal to the far left as much and I doubt that Keith's "Worst persons in the world" people don't get death threats or fired from his reporting. Yet people that Bill disagrees with on Talking Points have been threaten and in some cases attacked due to his actions. The other problem I have is that Fox News is the only network that talks about how fair they are during the commentary shows add to that that all the shows on Fox news have commentary in them and you start to see the issue.

Lets take a look at a report on Modern Warfare 2 on both channels and you tell me which on is more biased:

Fox News

MSNBC

While MSNBC is just as biased as Fox, notice how the actually report and you decide instead of them telling you that you'll be a terrioist. That how 90% of the news is presented. Fear should not be a part of a news channel.

That is certainly true, and the reason I don't watch either MSNBC or Fox News (or CNN for that matter). I found the flagrant bias or lack of actual newsiness of those outlets really annoying. I mostly listen to NPR for news. While the personalities there are pretty obviously liberal, I feel that they present very balanced and in depth coverage, with plenty of conservative, progressive and centrist commentators, and tough questions being asked across the political spectrum.

Personally i listen to NPR get my news from Reuters, and the competitor (i forget the name). I'll watch CNN World News (that is international CNN), BBC, and AlJazeera English (NOT AlJazeera Arabic.. that's basically the Arab Version of Fox News....) if i watch anything...

Every morning, before I head off to school, I relax on my couch. My father sits in the other rom, watching the news stations. I don't know who it was, but someone was talking about the healthcare reform and how it is unconstitutional, blah blah blah, and that they might have "lost the battle" but they will "win the war" on making sure the healthcare reform fails. Then this person went into talking about something to do with how democrats have done nothing, and all that junk.I walked into the other room, and changed the channel. My dad even said "Thanks. What they're syaing is outrageous."

And it is. The more I listen to Fox news, the more I feel my IQ dropping, and the more brainwashed I feel. They don't report news. They create STORIES. Things to get people to view their shows, and advertise their comments as "fair and balanced"

It's gotten to the point that I don't EVER watch that station anymore. I don't care if your news station has a bias. Everyone has their own biases on things, and that's fine. But what they're doing is so pathetic it is almost laughable.

That is why peple dis Fox News.

All news stations have their opinion/magazine shows, even PBS has those. Magazine shows might be bad though since they often provoke or trump up controversies for ratings.

"Fox's fearful reporting" is your opinion. Maybe O"Reilly is truly voicing the opinion of concerned citizens (not the nuts). His "news" is merely a means of interrogating (although he perfers the word interview) the political official responsible for passage of certain legislation and this is what his viewers hope for. As far as speaking to the nuts, all of CNN's emotionally over the top "save the planet series" plays right into E.L.F. and A.L.F. and their mass crimes against people and property. Left and right all have their nuts and each "News organization" speaks to them and their justification.

Well that's just one area and you can't use just one to decide where they fall on the spectrum and they certainly do not lean left, most of the time they are centrist but they have gone to the center right, with dobbs and beck in the past(when he was sane :P ).

Fox does less journalism and more history lessons. I mean, you can hardly call an hour long video on Hitler and the third reich news. That is history, not news.

"Jon" Stewart But this clip is great. A lot of the fervor foxnews has reported on in the past year has been manufactured by foxnews.

because FOX news is not a news channel. It's an opinion channel.

true, but i don't have to like it, and i don't listen to it.

then dont, nobody is forcing you. but none of you can deny that fox news is the #1 cable news station, and has been for years.

i knw you and i are on different political sphere but are we like... fighting here? cause i didn't think we were. I know nobody is forcing me to, but i still express my displeasure. and i have no idea who is really #1 in cable news because each and everyone of them tout it and even so i'm still not impressed by that. it's pretty disheartening if you ask me. and that would be the same feeling if it were MSNBC/NBC. it means that a millions of people are getting their 'news' from that source.

I prefer to watch BBC or Reuters for my news. As others have pointed out, there's too much editorializing and very little news on American cable news networks.

The only thing Fox that I watch is Fox Soccer Channel, and that's produced out of Canada. LOL!! I really don't care if they start editorializing about Manchester United or FC Barcelona.

Personally I switch between BBC and Al Jazeera. They are the only news networks that at least try to show both sides of the equation.

EDIT: I originally wrote "between Fox and Al Jazeera" when I meant "BBC and Al Jazeera" :P

One of their most popular commentators is a conspiracy theorist. I think that makes them fair game.

Fox News is not news, its political commentary and far right political commentary at that and no, most of the media is not leftist, only msnbc out of the major cable networks qualifies for being leftwing and its only center left, with cnn being centrist/center right.

xaos

CNN is far from center/right. They border on left to just touching left of center. An example is firearms, CNN is all for restricting them to all but a few. How is this any where near right?

How so? I'm not saying you're wrong, but can you show specific examples of how CNN has expressed this preference?

Her intial statement is "handguns and AUTOATIC weapons". CNN does this all the time, they misreprent what guns are and what gunowners want. The rest of the story is balanced up until the dramatic "Dodge City all over America".Her statements are echoed by others. No one mentions the fact that over 2 million crimes are prevented every year with firearms or that Doctors kill more people than guns do in a year ( http://www.naturalnews.com/021206.html), but "bullet ridden Chicago" is spoken with haste, pleading, and dishonesty.

I don't know about CNN's political leanings mostly because I refuse to watch it after that John Cena interview. It really is unforgivable.

Because they are idiots, they tell plan out lies without researching anything thing (see Mass Effect).

Something I've noticed, they are saying Democrats will bring Communism and Nazism to America... do they even realize that Communism and Facism are pretty much the EXACT FREAKING OPPOSITE?!?!?! Again, that just shows something about their target opposite. "Hey, Nazis are bad, we fought them in WWII! Hey, Commies are bad, we faced them in the Cold War... WAIT!!!! If they are both bad, they MUST BE THE SAME THING!!!!"

You can use tinyurl.com to get around Gamespot being so picky about URLs with query strings. I'm curious how statistics on "two million crimes being prevented with guns" was arrived at, though. It sort of seems like the old gag about a man's singing keeping tigers out of England ("There are no tigers in England..." "Exactly!!!!") ;)

It's overtly biased, they denegrate the views of minorities on many occasions, guys like O Reilly are morons and bullies, and they refuse to ever admit that they're wrong about anything.

Because it's FauxNews.

xaos

Can't really comment on the issue because I don't really watch/read American news that often, but you do know "faux" is not pronounced "fox" don't you?

Yes, but since this is a text-based medium and not a spoken one, the pun holds up just fine...

But I read in my head.:( Anyway......don't watch Fox so I can't say.

Now we all know that Fox news tends to fall on the conservative side of the political spectrum, but why is this such a bad thing? Most of the media has a strong liberal bias, so why is it such a problem that Fox news takes a different angle?

SeanDog123

If by "most" you mean msnbc, then sure. All the other major news networks such as the BBC, headline news, and cnn tend to try and stay in the middle. Fox news gets dissed so much because they pretend as though they have no bias, and that's the crux.

When you look at these numbers, by some experts these Chinese and Soviet Union numbers are low, Communism seems kind of evil and worthy of keeping off of our shores.

65 million in the People's Republic of China

20 million in the Soviet Union

2 million in Cambodia

2 million in North Korea

1.7 million in Africa

1.5 million in Afghanistan

1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe

1 million in Vietnam

150,000 in Latin America

10,000 deaths "resulting from actions of the international communist movement and communist parties not in power

These numbers were as of 1997 and do not reflect estimates as of 2010.

How is this relevant to the point he made - that the Republican party's accusation of the Democrats attempting to "bring both Communism and Nazism to America" is insensible due to the very fact that both idealogies are on the opposite ends of the political spectrum, and that one is on the extreme right?

Because it's 'cool' to hate on bias, so long as it's bias in favor of conservatives/Republicans.

Meh, they shouldn't present their news as "fair and balanced". It's clearly conservative, which I don't think is a problem at all. The problem is that they try to play like they aren't.
