I don't like Metal, but I like Screamo/Post Hardcore and it seems to be getting bashed here in GS.PlzDuntBanMe

I like some metal, and hate some metal. It's a very diverse genre.

Metal can be pretty sweet, but it's probably the genre I listen to the least. I can't handle all that crazy stuff for a long time.

Most of what I listen to is Hardcore/Metalcore/Screamo, whatever you want to call it (Bullet For My Valentine, Children of Bodom, Saosin, Paramore, Coheed and Cambria) but Ill listen to anything.

What alot of people find strange about me is I can go from Bullet For My Valentine's "Waking The Demon" to Sara Bareilles "Love Song" or "Fairytale" (My personal favorite of hers), to Eminems "Loose Yourself" and still sing every word, haha.

Testament is one of my favorite thrash bands! Overkill too. I love Dio, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Iron Maiden as well. YOu've got good taste. :P

Metal kicks ass, so it makes sense for lots of people to enjoy it!

I personally run the gamit from metal to rock to light rock to some rap and industrial is also a big genre for me.

Even within metal my taste varies from nu-metal, little bit of alt-metal, jst plain heavy metal, thrash metal, and some melodic death and even metalcore as they call it.

I can go from listening to "Blackout" by Muse to "This Calling" by All That Remains (A criminally underrated band BTW) to "The Grand Conjuration" by Opeth.

My friend actually said once that I like too much music, lol.

Don't get me wrong, I love the union and all, but metal elitists have always annoyed the hell out of me.

Theres nothing wrong with enjoying Killswitch Engage along with some Opeth, Jesus....

Oh and Motorhead is pretty sweet. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are annoying and incredibly overrated, and I can't really say I care for the rest of the stuff on the list albeit I haven't heard all the bands before...

I wasn't too into metal before, now its all I have on my mp3. Just listen to enough of it and you might grow into liking it. :)

I like Metal, yet I don't tie myself to that. I enjoy all types of music.

Either way, wow. I didn't even notice this topic getting so big... I guess a lot of people just don't have my taste. I barely ever hear of anyone liking Modest Mouse or Travis or Aqualung or David Gray, here.

Well Assasin and Dead Star sound somewhat heavy, so I see what ya mean:P

Oh and Modest Mouse has some good stuff. I am pretty sure they have a bit of popularity.

i listen to Overkill, Maiden, Priest, and Dio. i hate crap like Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine (any Metalcore for that matter). just cause someone doesn't listen to older Metal doesn't mean they are a "false" Metalhead. My favorite bands are Ensiferum, Wintersun, Blind Guardian, Opeth, and some others, they are all just as Metal as the bands you mentioned.

i like "metal" like disturbed, slipknot, static-x (if you want to call it metal haha), rage against the machine, mudvayne (the most hardcore band i listen to), and fear factory

metal is a fairly big genre. i have especially noticed death and black metal increase in popularity, 2 genres that i can't stand, excluding a few songs.

Perhaps this is so because everyone "here" can be said to be part of a geek subculture and people who form part of subcultures tend also to be part of counter-culture (Heavy Metal).
