It used to be that a women was the cook of the family but as I have recently started dating again seens most younger women can't ??

What happened did all the good women get taken or are women just not getting any home schooling. I also noticed many women are not as tidy as they used to be either. Did I just have a run of bad luck or is this common ??

I have no problem finding women but I want a keeper.

I dont know, and I dont care.

I love to cook way too much to let a woman do it, and I love food way too much to let someone relatively inexperienced ruin it

plus, women love a guy that can cook. One stereotypical thing that is true about dating

Different times, I guess :P

Why is it that important anyway? If you can cook, teach them. If you can't, don't expect them to know either

I know several woman that cook good but one I know one who doesn't cook well and does not listen to her mom for cooking suggestions and thinks she's a better cook than her mom. I never told her what I think of her cooking. Hope she's reading this :)

American women are trending this way. The last 2 women my dad has dated have been from Central America, and they both cook and clean with no complaints. I think he's got something figured out.

They have this idea that since they can vote they should move out of the kitchen and become lesbians. /bad joke Seriously, though, I don't know. It could just be that times are changing and parents never teach their kids how to cook.

America in general is just not a cooking culture.

if you cook in the least bit, youre considered a "gourmand" and food savvy lol which is kinda rediculous since a gourmand is essentially an amateur chef.

people my age (20s) treat cooking as a special occasion thing lol. "Ooooh I am cooking tonight, look at me" whereas in other cultures cooking a meal is simply part of the daily routine.

There is also less emphasis on cooking because people are generally living on their own in the US for longer. In other cultures, from what I have read, young adults either still lvie at home or marry younger, so cooking is practical. In America, there seems to be an emphasis on if youre 18, youre out the house and on your own...its tough to cook for one person.

People in general aren't cooking as much. I think it's kind of sad. I can cook risotto and I'm only 15, while most adults are going out to eat or making hamburger helper.

[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]... its tough to cook for one person.entropyecho

I beg to differ :P

yea, I know lol. I can cook for myself, its not a problem.

but Ive been cooking for my family since I was six years old. I learned to count, multiply, and divide when I was young by measuring stuff out for my mom. I would wake up on Saturdays and watch Juila Child, Jacques Pepin, Yan Can Cook, and Secrets of the CIA (Culinary Institute of America)...if there were cartoons on after those shows, then I'd watch GI Joe and Transformers.

As a result, my whole life I have been cooking for four people or more. When I went to school, I always had four or more roommates. I worked in a restaurant and catered, so I ended up cooking for hundreds.

Its tough for me to scale down from a lifetime of cooking for groups to just cooking for myself. My shopping habits still think "Feed for a family" not "feed for one". I think thats part of the reasonI am so large lol, I am used to cooking something for four people and sharing it, but now I have a large amount of food for one person.

Personally, I don't find it "difficult" to cook for just myself- I just don't like to. One of the reasons you sort of covered in your follow up post- it's difficult to scale downwards. Likewise, I almost find it fruitless to do so- it takes the almost exactly the same amount of energy to cook for one and to cook for four. The difference is, when cooking with other people, they may pick up the slack somewhere else in your life. So maybe you cook, but your spouse will clean up after. But when cooking alone, you do the whole thing for just one person. I also just don't like doing it because it's a bit depressing. It almost reminds me of drinking hard alcohol alone. I like having someone to talk with while I do both.

American women are trending this way. The last 2 women my dad has dated have been from Central America, and they both cook and clean with no complaints. I think he's got something figured out.

Ding- winner. I'll only date seriously a woman who can cook, and I'm pretty much at the point where I know to look for non-westerners for that.

I agree, most of my fondest memories take place in the kitchen. Cooking is a social experience; I like having someone sit across the counter from me, talking, asking me questions, or having someone help me out. I also enjoy teaching people to cook, I did that for a job for a couple years, its a lot of fun opening a whole new world to people.

I dont care who you are, people looooove to eat good food.

I think as a society, at least here in the U.S people value speed and convenience. Tasks that require a lot of preparation and takes some time are generally being look down on. To cook a meal, people need to spend timeand go and buy groceries, spice, various kitchen wares. Take those home, spend more time on preparing for the dishes before finally cooking it. After the meal, then need to dedicated more time on cleaning up. People already hate taking out the trash, just imagine having them spending that much time on cooking.

Compare to cooking, eating out is definitely the easy way out

The anwser is actually really simple.

More women are working now, which means they don't got as much time to cook as it use to be.

In fact I think I heard recently more women are working now than men, could be wrong though.

I believe the statistic was the the rate of women entering the workforce has surpassed the rate of men (for the first time in history, at least in the U.S.). There are still more men in the workforce than women.

I can't cook and neither can my girlfriend she is terrible! I burn oven food because I forget I put it in and she tries to make stir fries or curries but screws up in some major way every-time. She turns the rice into porridge! She's only 17 so hopefully she learns with experience but she can't even make a cup of tea without it tasting like dishwater.

My mother still cooks but she is old fashioned like that :P My sister on the other hand, would stab you long before you she cooked for you. I learned how to cook out of curiosity, and the fact that I didn't plan on marrying anytime soon, and can't stand fast food :P

Yeah, this is true. It's not like it's mandatory for women to cook or something (Although it would be great if they could).

cooking is somethign everyone should know, imo.

Its up there with having good self-hygiene, being a polite human being, etc...its jsut one of those life skills you should have.

Not saying you need to know how to cook restaurant-quality meals, but you should know the basics (how to make a good pasta sauce using canned tomatoes, not jarred sauce...how to marinate and grill chicken...etc.)

Hmm. This is a little bit of a weird question. I am a woman and I do know how to cook (and enjoy doing it, to boot!). But I'm afraid anyone who eats my cooking will die. I have no problems admitting I'm likely the worst cook you've ever met. I also haven't had any problems with men because of that. Usually the guys I date essentially don't mind/can cook. And yeah, it's not the qualify of women going down, just that this isn't 1940's America with the perfect housewife anymore. :P
