And yeah TC, seems rather stupid to me.
But then again, I don't really listen to music, so who cares. :P
What? Emo wasn't really popular til around 2000... there was nu-metal in between that, plus (I'm not a fan of emo) the emo you hear on that radio isn;t real emo, and the style of all the kids who have adopted it aren't really emo, they have adopted a fashionable style.
I have no problem with emo. And I wouldn;t say all good music ended with the death of Kurt Cobain and the break-up of G N R.
calling everything emo is a fad. this thread is a fad. it's "cool" to make fun of emos these days so I don't see where you are gettting that it's cool to be emo, when it's clearly made fun of in every single thread.
and I for one like Green Day, so I'm in the minority here because this board hates popular music.

No your not, Nirvana and Guns N Roses are as popular as they come.
Well fine but everyone hates Green Day just because they used to be on MTV.

Green Day has become as bad as the other emo groups. They make pop/rock so they can be mainstream instead of making good music.Their early stuff wasn't bad, but now they suck.

You are entitled to you opinion, don't let other peoples comments change it. I don't like Green Day simply because they are on MTV, I dislike them because I don't like the type of music they make. But again, its all opinions.

Good music is subjective. There is no right or wrong. You're opinion is against millions of people who like them and is of a no greater opinion than them.

Well, there is some objectiveness involved when critiquing music. For instance comparing Joe Pass or Wes Montgomery to the playing in bands like the TC mentioned he likes(Guns N' Roses, Nirvana) it's easy to tell there's a leap in musicianship and technique. The subjectiveness comes to if you actually like to listen to the music. For instance, saying you don't like a piece of music because it doesn't sound right is a subjective point of view but analyzing the piece for what it is musically can be somewhat objective.
I want to know why rock music is considered cool. It seems to be all people listen to. Personally, I like just about any music (bar classical). It also annoys me whan I'm called gay for liking old music. God knows why.
As for emos, the majoroty of them are spoilt upper-middle C_lass kids that seem to think the world owes them something. It is a fad that will die out, just like hippies.

Yeah, it bothers me when people decide they dislike a group simply because they are extremely popular and mainstream. While most of the groups i like are not mainstream (hell, most of my friends have never heard of the stuff i listen to, until they hear it on my computer/stereo/car) i don't dislike groups because they are mainstream. I think one major reason a lot of people often say they like older stuff by an artist but not the new stuff (assuming the new stuff is mainstream, radio, mtv type music) is because it seems very often that if a group is not super popular, then recive mainstream status with a new album their style has (at least to soem extent) changed, sure some people will hate the new mainstream stuff cause it is "cool" to hate popular music, but often the sound has changed (the most prime example i can think of is GCH, a group i am actually a big fan of (they were awesome live), the Paper Cut Chronicles was not hugely popular and has a much different (and in my view better) sound then Cruel as School Children, which gained them a lot of popularity and radio time... *Edit* Ahh, the 330am ramblings of someone on almost no sleep, if the above makes no sense...umm, suck it up i'm tired :pEmo's have given otheres a bad name. People like myself love to dress in black. Everybody can agree, that sometimes or always dressing in black can be cool. Though with emos in the world, most people that see you in black automatically think you're an emo. I've always got people thinking I'm dracula or a sad emo. I'm neither *though, being dracula isn't so bad*.
What makes me really mad to the point of blowing up, is emo music. Typical rock for today, is basically music that sounds like fall out boy. At the end of transformers, I hear emo music?! What is up with that? End of the transformers movie back in the 80s, had a really cool sounding song. Heres my problem with emo music- every male singer tries sounding like a girl, satan, or both. I'm fine with popular music, as long as its good. Effel 65 was a great and popular 'band', and I loved them. Also, the guitars in emo music always sound the same. Sound like, they have there hands on the same frets and keep strumming to it. Boring an simplistic.
Used to be wearing trenchcoats and being in black was cool. Though now people stereotype you because of it. So until this culture changes *which this man trying to sound like girl culture is looking unlikely to change*, I'll have to go back to wearing my uber-sexy barney *pbs version* costume. Nobody can stereotype me then, eh?

Yeah, it bothers me when people decide they dislike a group simply because they are extremely popular and mainstream.Yeah, I agree. However I'm not sure as to the OPs age, because if I remember correctly Green Day received substantial air play on the radio and MTV back in the mid 90s, back then I'd say they had significant success.
Whoa, whoa whoa, your completly wrong about everything. Each couple of years theres a rock trend, in the early 90's it was grunge, then it went to nu-metal, then to pop-punk, to finaly emo. It just some trend thats going to die out soon, and it recently started back in 2002-2003.mexicangordo
Thats right. I certainly, absolutely hope this stuff changes. I can't handle almost every movie these days having some sorta emo song.

Well i agree that the trend is rather stupid, but i wouldnt over-exagerate on how much i dislike it (like what iam seeing in this thread) seriously, not all emo songs are bad, but i can see how it can get on peoples nerves. I think the trend (like how people dress) is far more irratating than the music.[QUOTE="Taalon"][QUOTE="hazuki"]Emo's have given otheres a bad name. People like myself love to dress in black. I wouldn't exactly say they started it, but they sure as heck fricken helped it. I don't care if linkin park is considered emo or not, it sounds like it. You know what else sucks? Even anime theme songs are getting filled with emo music. Just look at narutos 2nd theme on-wards. Its first opening theme was great, but turns to emo there on out.
I've kindof noticed another trend to. Its almost always either emo *or close to it* males or any regular females that like music where the lead singer tries his best to sound like a girl. Guess its because sounds closer to what their voices sound like? Wouldn't know.
