Why is Jesus portrayed as a white person?

THREE CHARACTERISTICS SUGGEST THAT JESUS WAS BLACK:

Aren't Middle Eastern people caucasian?

I've always thought it was somewhathumorous that the perception of Jesus is always White even though the Bible talks about him having darker skin and woolly hair. Granted, I suppose he could still be White w/ that description, but it doesn't seem likely to me. I've always thought he wouldn't look white or black. He'd look Middle Eastern. At least, that's what makes the most sense to me.jacintos09

Where is there a biblical description? I don't believe there is.

Well I don't claim to be a Biblical scholar of any sort. I'm just going off what I learned in Church...when I used to go to Church. I dunno if there's any other passages that they use when they're talking about it but I know one of 'em comes from Revelations 1: "14. His head and [his] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes [were] as a flame of fire; 15. And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters."

That's King James, though I dunno if that's the version that people use when they're talking about that. I don't think the hair thing matters as much to people as much as the feet that look like brass, or bronze in some versions. Most people I've heard discuss the passage think that at the very least he was darker than white...*shrugs* It's not that big of a deal to me. I figure Jesus was a good guy, regardless of appearance, though I do have a really hard time believing he looked like the pictures of Jesus we generally see all over the place.

Why are Jesus and the other 'Messiahs' portrayed as people to begin with when all that their characters are suppose to symbolize is the sun?

I honestly am not sure. Way back in Grade 2 and 3, I always imagined Jesus as a black person. I don't know why, but I did.

I remember seeing a painting of him as a little kid and going "wtf".

That's because the race isn't "white" per se. There is some skin pigmentation.

Here's how I see it. Armenia was the first nation to believe in Chritianity. Now Armenians are considered white, but not the kind that is like say blonde hair blue eyes omg so evil white man kind, but a lot like Turkish people. However I don't know where the paintings first came from, but since religion is infact a belief...we don't need to be all scientifical about it. Jesus is what christians believe he is, and since the paintings of him mostly protrays him as white, he is white.

What does religion have to do with complexion? Are you suggesting that when my mom converted, she lost her original skin color and suddenly became white? I can look at her right now and say that her complexion hasn't changed one bit.

It's unlikely he was white. Not just unlikely, there's a big chance he wasn't white.

Are people used to drawing him that way or do they honestly think he was white? Jerusalem is right in the middle of the arabian world, Jesus being black is more likely than him being white.

Well I don't have a clear cut anwser as to why there isn'talot of historical documents about Jesus (There are a couple that mention him, and they're not off the bible). Just keep in mind that he was just one man out of millions, the world can't stop and record what a guy is saying all the time, so there is bound to be minimal records of him.
