Twilight was plagiarized off of The Vampire Diaries. It is popular with pre-pubescent girls who don't know what a real relationship is supposed to be like, and it condones stalker activity ("I've been watching you sleep for months.").

I haven't seen the movie but everything I've been reading online completely trashes the movie, as well as the author of the books. Everything in the book contradicts itself, there are numerous grammatical errors, and the so-called "Vampires" in this Movie apparently sparkle when they go out in the sunlight. People really need to research on Vampires before they start writing a book. I mean, who at the age of 36 doesn't know what a Vampire is? It's embarrasing to the point of even getting a midnight release.. =/

So back to my original question, what makes this series so popular?

In terms of the stalker activity, I think a lot of literature and tv shows and such condone a lot worse. :S If we want to get rid of "bad" messages we wouldn't have much to entertain ourselves with.

I wonder this myself. There are a million things I don't like but I don't actively waste my life complaining about them all the time, and encouraging others to do so. Especially when it's been done sooooooooo many times.
Maybe I'm partial because I actually like Twilight... but it still seems reasonable to grow up and move on- which some Twilight haters can't do.

But I can't understand why people take time to hate on it, just ignore if you don't like it.

I've watched The Vampire Diaries. I haven't read the books, though. However, it is not plagiarism. I don't see anything relating that to The Vampire Diaries. :?ayanami_rei

I watched the first movie cus my ''ex'' liked it, and i was courios about it, i thought the movie was OK, kinda girly for my taste but whatever. Then i read the first chapter of the book and i almost killed myself afterwards.Solid_Tango

Edit: Btw, the only reason why the vampires in The Vampire Diaries are able to be outside in the sun is because of their rings. Without it, they'll burn.

if you are talking about the movie then obivously only because of the star cast8), Twilight is so popular that it has the number 1 fan following all over the world

specially the romance between vampire and the human girl(teenage love), the boy is ready to do anything for the girl to save her and take care of her
