Most of them children and teenagers

He is preparing to release this footage soon, the Feds fear its all true, and will probably try to prosecute this man and put and end to this.

Should he be though? Im glad someones doing this, Im not sure if a government should willingly display this sort of thing to the public, but for those who are interested in seeing it should have a source for all the public. but im sure the feds or maybe cia will put an end to all this one way or another. entirely bs.

here is the article:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-06-15/wikileaks-founder-has-garani-massacre-video-according-to-new-email/

Julian Assange, who the Feds fear may release State Dept. secrets, denies having them—but he's readying video of a deadly U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan.

After several days underground, the founder of the secretive website WikiLeaks has gone public to disclose that he is preparing to release a klassified Pentagon video of a U.S. airstrike in Afghanistan last year that left as many as 140 civilians dead, most of them children and teenagers.

In an email obtained by The Daily Beast that was sent to WikiLeaks supporters in the United States Tuesday, Julian Assange, the website's Australian-born founder, also defends a 22-year-old Army intelligence specialist who is now under arrest in Kuwait on charges that he leaked klassified Pentagon combat videos, as well as 260,000 State Department cables, to WikiLeaks.

"Mr. Manning allegedly also sent us 260,000 klassified US Department cables, reporting on the actions of US Embassy's [sic] engaging in abusive actions all over the world," Assange said in an email. "We have denied the allegation, but the US government is acting as if the allegation is true."

American officials have said they are eager to determine the whereabouts of Assange, who canceled an appearance last Friday in Las Vegas, to discourage him from releasing any more klassified information on his website, which is nominally based in Sweden and promotes itself as a global resource for whistleblowers. As recently as two weeks ago, who first gained global notoriety as a computer hacker, was in his native Australia.

In April, his website posted a copy of a klassified Pentagon video of a 2007 American helicopter attack in Baghdad in which a dozen people were killed; that video is also believed to have been leaked by the Army intelligence analyst, Specialist Bradley Manning of Potomac, Maryland.

While denying again that WikiLeaks has the State Department cables, Assange acknowledges in the email today that he is in custody of the May 2009 video that shows the airstrike on the Afghan village of Garani, believed to be the most lethal combat strike in Afghanistan—in terms of civilian deaths—since the United States invaded the country in 2001. Assange writes that "we are still working on" preparations for release of the video of "the Garani massacre."

The State Department and Pentagon did not immediately comment on Assange's email message.

American officials have acknowledged in the past that they are concerned about the release of the Garani video, fearing that it could undermine public support for the American military campaign in Afghanistan both in that country and in the United States. Pentagon officials were outraged by WikiLeaks' release of the Baghdad video this spring.

State Department officials are especially alarmed by the potential that Assange might post the huge library of klassified department memos that Manning is reported to have bragged of providing to WikiLeaks earlier this year. The department has confirmed that it is conducting a forensic examination of Manning's computer equipment for evidence of what he may have downloaded.

In the email, Assange does not confirm any relationship between the website and Manning, describing him as "one of our alleged sources."

But he suggests that Manning is being treated unfairly—"detained and shipped to a US military prison in Kuwait, where he is being held" without trial.

Yeah, I'm sure people will believe the biased content released by Wikileaks again...

If it's classified he has no right to show it. The feds will prosecute and they will win.

This is old news, I wouldn't be suprised if more civilians were dying as i'm typing this, it's war, not a video game where there's no civilians there. It's not just 2 factions fighting in a street.

Dead civilians are dead civilians, irrelevant of the circumstances under which they were killed. It's important that people see that war causes the death of many civilians.

First off, WE need to see if they edited the video and if they were actually Civilians being killed.

First off, WE need to see if they edited the video and if they were actually Civilians being killed.

Even in the other video, civilians were undeniably killed. The argument was what the circumstances under which they were killed were.

But the video hasn't been released yet, so it's pointless to argue over the as of yet unreleased video. :P

wtf, how are you going to edit the killing of innocent children? Is wikileaks going to photoshop the AK47's out of the kids' hands? Get real, it's a good thing that someone has the stones to release this kind of stuff to the public. The US military's win-at-all-costs motto has no place on foreign soil.

Actually, the problem with the US military is the fact that we focus so much on not hurting civilians that somehow, someway that gets to us.

Besides, like others said, it's war.

I think people kinda of forgot that civilians die in war.

Jfisch93

pretty much this. Its is a horrible thing, but unavoidable.

I am not going to get into a debate about who is at fault, either: one side could easily argue that it is the target's fault for hiding in a building with civilians, whereas one side could argue that the military should have practiced restraint or gotten better intel on civilians in the area.

its an evil thing, but a necessary evil unfortunately, in order to win a war.

Horrible analogy, but while we all might enjoy steaks and hamburgers, but no one wants to go to the slaughterhouse. This is a similair principle.

No it's not. The US is not at war with Afghanistan, but they march their armies in the country and kill innocent civilians? They have a duty to preserve every civilian life in there.

I'm just going to point out the two Hague and Geneva Conventions guide military rules of action for US forces that are violated are fighting only enemy combatants and treating all civilians humanely.

And...cue the flaming and liberal calling!

There's a huge difference between killing a few civilians in a badly placed bomb or crossfire, and then killing 140 civillians in an airstrike. This isn't WW2, we don't carpet bomb cities anymore so killing hundreds of civilians in an airstrike should never happen.

Wikileaks is an international organisation. I'm not sure the US Federal government has the ability or authority to prosecute it. In fact, in the past its only been able to go after people who correspond with Wikileaks, like Bradley Manning.

I wouldn't support this guy so fast. Their website has been known to edit and until I see explicit evidence of U.S. soldiers killing 'teenagers and women", unedited of course, I would be skeptical. Also, as far as I'm concerned, this man is a traitor and needs to be hunted down and dealt with. I'm talking about the founder, not you.

Why do you think they say war is hell?

Civilians are a huge casualty of war, but will happen in every war. If you guys like we could let the Taliban and Al-Queda build back up so you can worry about attacks on our soil. I'm sure that's a better way to go about things, let our civilians die instead. That way we can magically stop them by doing nothing.

But that doesn't make them traitors to the USA then, does it? You can't begin indicting other nations citizens for leaking information without agreements from their governments.

[QUOTE="Danm_999"][QUOTE="l4dak47"][QUOTE="Danm_999"] The founders of WikiLeaks are (reputedly) Chinese dissidents. The current director is an Australian. In what sense can they be considered traitors to the US?

In the sense that they may have information that can hurt our national security. Besides, it doesn't matter their nationalities or history, all that matters is that they pose a risk to our national security.

But that doesn't make them traitors to the USA then, does it? You can't begin indicting other nations citizens for leaking information without agreements from their governments.

I think he's talking about the man with the video...l..

Mystic-G

heh thats kind of funny, because thats pretty much what has happened

What do you mean they don't pose a national risk? Well apparently you can, because the U.S. is doing it and I support them 100%

Now I wish somebody had said that on September 12 2001.We might have been spared all those sickeningly fatuous tributes that dominated our TV screens for months afterwards.

Danm_999

Except there was no war going on at the time and it was a completely random terrorist attack that killed 3000 people at once.

What's the diffference from the perspective of Afghan civilians?

They know there is a war going on and that they're occupied. I really don't believe the guy has footage of an airstrike killing 140 civilians and i was just saying that the guy should not be saying that the tributes to the 9/11 victims were sickening.
