Will atheism cease to exist in this reality?

This is just one reality I live in. I have awakened my mind and the world will change. This war is with no guns. No blood shed.

I think atheism will cease to exist. You have to be really stuck in your ways to believe our bodies are who we are. I just don't see a future where atheists exist much if at all. Atheists used the argument a lot that who we are is in our brains. Thats no longer the popular belief. I think we are at a time where atheists will awaken and realize they were wrong.

I'd like to see what that James Randi guy thinks. I grabbed the world by its balls lol.

Atheism is trending. In a society where science prevails, there will likely be less religion, or at most it will be reduced to a general agnosticism.

I see your point. Atheists like to get things down to the most minute detail. This society is based on limitations of our minds. They just want to see how far they can go with the limitations they have in their lifes. See how far science can go with the limitations it has.

Where was Jehova when six million of his "chosen people" were starved to death and diseased to death in ghettos, shot dead in some field outside of Riga or at a ravine called Babi Yar near Kiev or gassed dead at Treblinka, Sobibor, Chelmno or Auschwitz, he didn't descend from heaven to stop the nazis from murdering the jews of Europe; where was Jesus when mental patients were being gassed at Hadamar or when the Huegenots were being slaughter during St Bartholomew's massacre; where was Allah when hundreds of muslims were being murdered during the ethnic "cleansing" in Yugoslavia. Those are just a few examples. I used to be Catholic, after reading about all those events and many more you still think I would believe in a super natural entity ( God ) ?

I wouldn't. That was a scary test of faith. I don't believe in the bible god. I don't believe this reality is real either. Just an extension of myself. It was me that held society back. I'm aware of what reality is really. In my reality atheists would have a hard time living in it. Some form of artificial atheism could be made in a experiment. That would be stupid though.

This can pretty much be flipped from our perspective to " You have to be really stuck in your ways to believe that some deity will bring you to a place absent of pain and troubles, so long as you worship it and follow some guidelines in a book it did not write. And if you don't then it will punish you with eternal torture"

Do you even know what the term atheist means? It's simply the lack of belief in god(s). Nothing more, there is no dogma or doctrine attached. The fact that there might be more realities or whatever has no bearing on this.

Care to explain your belief?

It's not even debatable. You can't be born with a belief when you don't even know what a belief is. Hence you can't be born with the belief that there are no deities.

Of course. But, you can be (and are) born without the belief in any god, thus being born an atheist. One does not need to hold belief that there are no gods to be an atheist.

Yes, one does need.

i always felt saying there is a 100% chance of god not existing is just as dumb as saying there is a 100% chance it does exist.

you can never have any proof either way so atheism is absolutely as faith based as being religious is.

if you are basing your belief on faith how are you any different from the religious?

so anyway no, athiests will always exist because there will never be any shortage of people that believe something for the sole reason that they believe something.

Saying I don't believe purple ducks exist is not the same as saying I believe purple ducks don't exist. The first state that while I don't think they exist I'm aware I can't know for sure while the second states that I am sure that no purple ducks exist anywhere. Therefore a lack of belief is not the same as disbelieve (lack of existence) and atheism can be either of those, not only the latter. So again, you are born a non-theist (atheist).

No. One needs to hold the belief that there are no gods to be an atheist. No, agnostics and ignostics are for example not atheists.

For example, you're not an atheist then.

In any case, we have words for both positions. The first is agnosticism and the second is atheism. With regard to deities.

Atheism by its own beliefs must cease to exist. Since atheists do not believe in any afterlife or any life beyond the physical realm, and eventually those things must end (eventually the sun will burn out), then eventually there will be no atheists and thus no atheism. Now if atheists are wrong and there is an afterlife, once they experience that they would no longer be atheists.

@themajormayor: Atheism relates to lack of belief, agnosticism relates to lack of knowledge...you can be an agnostic theist (believing without knowledge of existence of a deity) or an agnostic atheist. In any case at birth you are not a theist.

Ok, so an agnostic atheist must then be disbelieving without knowledge. I.e. not a newborn.

@themajormayor: I think your problem is that you are using the word disbelief instead of lack of belief.

Does a newborn believe in a God?

Does a newborn have any position regarding religion?

If you answered "no" to both questions then a newborn is an atheist in it's purest form.

I think the only way atheism could become non-existent is if it was pushed out by force. The way it is going with advances in science and peoples negative views on religion growing due to things going on in the world, I would say religion has more of a chance of dying out.
