It's not possible.
and if it was you would arrive at a destination before you departed... and that doesn't even make sense

i think we should ask the question is it possble for anything to travel faster then light before we ask can humans travel faster then light.Big_player
We have been able to accelerate particles to the speed of light, but nothing else really...

[QUOTE="Indestructible2"]Let me repair my time machine and i'll find out for you :)LS07
ahh but a time machine is theoretically possible, at least one that goes forward
I fixed it,and NO,humans DON'T ever find a way to go past 186,000 miles per second,we'll all die on December 12,2012 :(And if anyone wants to know,i was the one who actually killed the dinosaurs,i just threw the asteroid into the yucatan just to confuse you all :)
I don't think you can figure out how to break the laws of physics.TongHuawell, if space is a flat plane as postulated by the theory of general relativity, then woulden't it theoretically be possible to create a wormhole and travel outside this plane?

It's December 21, 2012 actually. Everyone remember to open your Christmas presents early that year!

yes and we already have, using a particle accelerator to create an immense amount of energy a wormhole within quantum foam could be created and expanded allowing humans to travel anywhere in our universe and others in a matter of seconds
Let me check my crystal ballBig_Bad_Sad
On a completely unrelated note.....your lot got lucky this weekend :(
I don't understand why people think we would die inside the ship at light speed.
Sure, if we just hit the gas peddle and right away hit light speed, we would get thrown against the inside of the ship and pop. All they would have to do is to create a small pod for us to lay in while traveling high speeds.
No its not like Star Trek where you can stand when you hit light speed.Â
probably not since current science says its not possibleLS07

/thread.
i think theirs a jet that is faster than sound banedonoes
haha sound is slow. its only around 700 mph
light is like 185,000 mph

no, its about 186,000 miles per second in a vaccum (sp?). but we don't know if even light can go that fast because if light has a mass of even a little more than 0, then it won't be able to. i wish i could explain more, but I don't remember everything that the article said.
/sigh* ok there are two ways of traveling From point A to point B, currently humans can only travel from point A to point B by physically trekking the distance from point A to point. The other way is by manipulating the positions of point A to point B. let me dumb it down for you
First way of traveling: ok your sitting at the dinner table and you to go to the refrigerator. From Point A (the seat) you would get up and walk to the refrigerator (point B). this is the normal way we humans travel through out physical plain.
Second way of traveling: Ok your sitting at the dinner table and you want to go to the refrigerator. From point A (the seat) you would manipulate the distance between point A&B, thus making it shorter.
what i'm trying to get at is that it is possible (technically)to travel faster than lightby Warping space&time(as space and time are related).
----think i should wrap this up
Summary: yes it is possible to travel faster than light, but by unconventional travel means: either by "wormholes" "jumps" warpingspace and manipulating the space medium.
howis it possibleby using techonology? i personally dont know how humans can achieve the second type of traveling.Ask a physics professor or wait till the unified theory is verified( string theory?)
Either way it's to early in human tech developement to simply say no it isnt possible.
btw the speed of sound is 600mph not 700mph
other things i left out
speed of light is 185,000 miles Per Second.
and Teleportation is still considered the first type of travel as i mentioned earlier. (if you can somehow merge and master teleportation with space distortion the you can almost go anywhere in the universe in theory)
Master gravity and one could do the unimaginable
