Do you think human beings will be present in the universe from here on out? I think so just because we know what it takes to live in outer space. The movie Wall-E got me thinking. :P EDIT: I guess a less arbitrary question would be: Do you think the human race will live on for a million more years? Can we? Will we survive even longer? Or is Earth where we will begin and end?

Considering the end of time is unable to produce any resources the humans can survive on, i'd have to go with no

Only if humans end time itself.

Outer space colonization has one major flaw, water. There are no planets even within our extreme probe range right now with a potable water supply (Mars being debatable, but even then you would have massive issues in terms of both conservation and replenishment). Even if we found a planet with a water source, it would be thousands of light years away meaning that even if we can somehow travel at the speed of light it will take 1,000 years to get there, so unless you can massively increase the human lifecycle AND perfect travel at light speed colonization is not going to happen.

... No never.. Inless we discovered some form of travel that was safe, and was many times faster then the speed of light. No never.. As it stands we are looking at never having the possibility of even getting a fraction of the speed of light.. Looking past the absurd amount of energy requirements it would require for them to get to that speed, and the ridiculous distances that even at that speed would take years to reach the closest star to us.. But the fact that when you go at those speeds and hit something the size of a baseball, its going to have the force of impact of a nuclear bomb.. Furthermore lets say we made ou planet self sufficent in never running resources.. The sun is finite.. The sun will die, and so will we when it becomes a red giant.. FURTHERMORE, lets ignore all that.. Sooner or later a gama ray burst from a super nova or other such tings will destroy our atmosphere.. EVEN ignoring all this there is still one thing that iwll happen.. The andreomeda Galaxy is on collision course with ours.. One of two things will happen when this occurs (most likely).. First one, we are flung out of the galaxy into the void.. Or we are flung into the center of the galaxy where we will become fodder from exploding starts, black holes or maybe even the super massive blackhole within the center.

Yes, if a galactical disaster comes, by that time we will easily have the technology to create some form of small fallout ship. enough to store samples. and all information needed to restart the race

I'm no physicist (so what I say may make zero sense), but do you think that we could develop the technology to split and fuse atoms (most importantly hydrogen and oxygen) thereby giving us a resource for water which would irrigate the plants and feed the animals on our escape ship? If that could happen then there would be no need to find a planet with water or even a planet at all. Just a small population of humans traveling through space aimlessly... but still surviving.

The first few points would be assuming that worm holes didn't exist and were impossible to create. If worm holes are proven a possibility and we can link one end of the universe to another space travel wouldn't require spaceships going at the speed of light.

No humans are too stupid to last that long. Then again if in the universe their is some other race more advanced than us and such I still do not think it would last that long. It kinda feels unnatural. Everything dies. Imagine a civilisation that has that sort of continuity. For a number of reasons it just doesnt happen.

Probably not. But not because of the reasons people are stating (well, except that heat death thing).

Humans will evolve into a different species. Just like you don't call "human" to say homo erectus, you probably won't call "human" to your descendants. So, I think we will be around, just under a different name and form.

I can't imagine how this would happen. Would someone just say one day, "Hey guys, we're not human anymore. We're better than that"?

Anyway, I'd like to think we'll make it, but nuclear weapons say otherwise.

Maybe not to the end of time, but we will exist for millions of years to come. Even if we end up nuking our selves to death, a few humans will survive to repopulate and do it all over again. We should exist at least until or sun goes out.

I don't know the energy requirements for a wormhole, but from my quick researching of the speed of light it would take an infinite amount of energy to keep something moving towards the speed of light. Wouldn't the energy for a worm hole to exist be a stable/solid number as opposed to the endless amount of energy required in moving an object to the speed of light? I think a worm hole lies in our future as opposed to trying to travel near the speed of light.

Worm holes would require a radically large amount of energy.. More so then it would to take to light speed.. You know how much it would take something like a bowlign ball to get to the speed of light? It would take all the energy produces in a week to accelerate something that size near the speed of light.

The only thing your refering to of the energy needed is the fact you can never reach the speed of light.. Hence why it would be infinite but anything near it say 98% can be reached with a finite amount of energy..

[QUOTE="MystikRex"]No. I predict a future similar to The Planet of the Apes. Or Fallout.

Humans still live in each of those...
