I'm 13, so it's possible I'll see it. IF they do reach one of the father planets besides the Moon and Mars, I'll probably be getting old. if they do get there, my kids will see it....

We already are in space, this is all just a dream, its just like assassin's creed and you've been put in a big machine that samples genetic memory and converts them into a sort of dream in the far off future of 2004! WAKE UP!

I think we will eventually be living on a space station but we might be old by then or our kids might get to experience it.

What do you mean "in space"? Do you mean like humans living in space? Aren't we trying to build a permanent colony on the moon as the base for future Mars missions? I think we will see humans walking on Mars before our lifetimes are over, but to be honest, unless some incredible breakthrough or discovery is made, Mars is the limit of our space exploration.

Sure. There are Rovers from NASA on Mars. We just have to keep going and focus on what's important.

When the Sun dies it's most likely going to take Earth with it so we'll have to conquer space if we want to survive as a species. Granted, that's a long time from now and we may just kill ourselves or our planet before then. If we're still around when that time comes we'd better of made plans to vacate the premises or we're toast.

That's a good point. If we DON'T get to other planets we'll be sucked up by the sun and we'll all die. But if scientists can invent force fields by then we'll be ok. Although, after the earth dies, we'll be floating in our force bubbles in space for the rest of our lives sooo... NVM!

No forcefield would ever stop our sun going Supernova, we'd still all cook.

Maybe we'll find a FTL drive under Mars [/joke]

The sun has at least 1,000,000,000 more years of fuel left to burn. Our species will be long gone by then.

I don't think that any forcefield can stop a wave of pure heat (2,000,000 C') Read the zeros. Anyway the sun has an approximate lifetime of 5 Billion Years. It has 3 Billion Left. It will become volatile on approximately 1 Billion Years. In a Billion Years either Humanity will have destroyed themselves (and possibly the rest of the planet) or spread out (sorry to use a cliche) among the stars. God knows this Solar System is not anywhere humanity wants to be in a billion years.

We will have to someday because this place we call home is not going to be here forever. With that being said we are going to have to venture off sooner or later if we still want to exist a million years from now.

I bet we'll see humans land on Mars in our lifetime. Before we can go much further than Mars we're going to need a much, much faster means of travel than we have now.

This is all bull. sorry to break anyone's spirits but there's no way the human race will reach mars in the lifetime of anyone who is currently alive. It would take around a year to travel to mars alone and that's the nearest planet, it will take us about 200 years minimum til we come up with the technology to reach mars in a smaller amount of time and make it back too.

well... that's my opinion anyway =]

Oh I have no doubt we will reach Mars within my Lifetime its more a matter of whether anything useful will come of it within my lifetime.

I meant humans living in space. Mars is not the limit of our space exploration. There is a mission called New Horizons, a robotic spacecraft mission by NASA currently underway to explore Pluto and its moons. New Horizons was launched successfully on January 19, 2006.

The sun has at least 1,000,000,000 more years of fuel left to burn. Our species will be long gone by then. TheSystemLord1

And what do you think will replace it?

Our sun is still young. It is only in half of its' life. It has still 4.5 billion years left to burn before it will turn into a red giant.

Let's hope some alien civilization has left us some goodies under the Martian surface or else it's probably going to take ages until we get some decent technology that will allow us to travel to other systems.

It isn't as crazy when you say your going to spend your life savings on something awesome, when your only 16. That brings you to a grand total of...a couple thousand dollars to walk on other planets? Where do I sign up?

Unless some superadvanced race pops up and gives us their technology, umm... no. Though they may just began building those moon colonies as we're laying on our deathbeds.
