Why is WW1 so unknown to people? I dont even know who we fought in WW1. WWII is always the war that gets mass exposure in media whether its movies, videogames, documentaries, etc..... I honestly can say I have no idea what WW1 was like, heard they didnt even have tanks. Anyone in the same boat as me? Why is so underated? Even the Civil war is more popular.

This quiestion popped up in my head when i watched Xmen Origin wolverine during the Intro Scenes.

No. I have a pretty good concept of WWI. But, It's not my job to educate you. It all started because somebody had to go and assissinate some dude from Austria. I could be more specific but I mean.. it's better for you to go find out for yourself than for me to give you all the answers.

They did have tanks. It's probably because there is much less media from that war than from WW2. And, the US was only involved for about a year with much less US casualties. I'm sure that it is a much bigger deal in France and England, but there's not really many people alive that experienced it anymore.

I think the most widely used and accepted reason for WWI is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Then you have others that saytheTRUE reason for WWIwas started over oil as well. the Germans had a deal with Iraq and were going to extend the Orient Express into Iraq. We have basically been fight with or over iraq for the last 100 years.

I think World War II overshadowed World War I. Also, the world completely changed after 1945.

nope see'ing as how its never mentioned in the media, schools (specifically my school) never taught anything about any war other then the involvment our country had with WWII. No one ever talks about it, no one ever uses it as a conversation, no one even thinks about it. No i do not know who the enemy was.

Because WW1 is more centered on Europe. It's a big deal in Britain and France, but since the US was barely involved and got the least casualties, it didn't get much attention from the US educational department. That, and the fact that WW1 was what made the USA the gargantuan super power it is today. I guess the government wouldn't want it's people to know that it became so powerful in a sleezy way.

WW2 actually had a villain everybody hated, and the war was actually a just war. WW1 is just a war that dragged on for far too long. Besides, nobody like to hear about soldiers dying from Trench Foot and being led into suicide charges by getting mowed by German machine guns.

they did have tanks and planes in WW1 but its not that exciting because it was trench warware both sides just bombed each other the days then ran out into the open and got shot because their commanding officers made them march to the enemy side lined up like idiots

It's a pity that most people don't know about World War One. It was the dawn of modern warfare, and without it, the world today would be very different. There would be no rise of Communism in Russia. The United States would not have become the major world power it is today. And there wouldn't of been a World War Two, a Holocaust, and a Cold War, if the Kaiser was still on the throne and Hitler didn't take power due to his frustration with the reparations. Another reason it seems that not many know about World War One is that it was covered already. Perfectly. In one single text. Go read All Quiet on the Western Front, then tell me that World War One was lame. There were no rules. Poison Gas, Flamethrowers, Bayonet Charges. The rules of war had to be rewritten due to the cruelty of some of the weapons used. I'd rather take a year long tour of World War Two France than have to live a day in the trenches. These people deserve more respect.

No offense but if you don't know about it I would say its quite ignorant. The reason there are no games about it though is that they would be so boring and pointless, and there are plenty of documentaries etc about it.

World War One was also fought in the Middle East, Africa, and the Pacific as well. Soldiers were brought in to serve from all of the British Commonwealth.

Right. Just saying that the assassination was what I remember being told in Social Studies/History through out school years. Of course, when you look closer at things you come across different information.

Depends were you are in the world. In Britain and Ireland it is a great deal. Alot of turning points in Irish history happened because of WW1, So we learn a good deal about it to understand why it made such an impact back at home.

World War 1 was caused by more then just the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand , for example, the alliances that all of the countries made was the key reason this was even made into a world war. If there were no alliances, this war would been between Austria and Serbia.

No idea, but I hate the NY education system regarding history. I learned about the American Revolution like every other year and the information I learned never changed. I learned it in 4th grade, 6 grade, 8th grade, Freshman, Junior and I went over it in a 1 class in college to make sure everyone else knew what the guy was going to talk about next.

Regarding WW2. I went over that maybe once for an extended epriod of time while only going over WW1 maybe for like 1-2 classes in HS.

Because America is the world basically. Every economy in the world, is pretty much controlled by the American economy. Even though the States aren't imperialistic, they're actually economically imperialistic. If the American economy collapses, so will everyone else. America abuses this power and ships out history books based on their history, not the country they are shipping to. This means that since the US has a few dirty little secrets behind WW1, they won't publish it in a history book.

I know but if your being taught about WW2.. i can't imagine why they wouldn't bring up WW1 and how it led to alot of things that brought about WW2 Hitler getting into power for example stemmed from WW1.

Thats like here and with Nazi Germany :P We have went over it sooo many years in school. I admit WW1 wasn't taught in so much detail as WW2.. but we still learned the basics Who took part, major battles, and those involved etc. and we spent alot of time on the post war Time frame including the Treaty of versailles.

I've actually read one American history book on WW2, and it doesn't even explain Hitler's origins. The fact that he's Austrian (NOT German), and that he fought in WW1, and with the consequences of Germany losing the war, is what made his extreme motives. That, and the fact that he got rejected from art school by Jews. (That's why he hated them.) The American text books merely describe him as a madman that needed to be stopped. (well the text book I read, anyway)
