the reason for the question is because in class today we were discussing gender roles. professor asked the class if we consider men who don't want children to be selfish, which everyone replied with no. when asked the same question but with women some people were saying that the woman was being selfish wtf?

I'm wondering how the professor had said it. He may have said it in a way in which the students would feel stupid if they hadn't agreed with him. Some professor's are very good at trying to convince people of things they normally wouldn't agree on.

I don't think it is selfish. i rather someone recognize they are too selfish for kids then to have kids and still behave selfish. i know some selfish moms and i really feel sorry for their kids. but i think if you are with a girl who doesn't want kids and you do it would be best to leave that relationship and be with someone who does.

Plus sometimes students feel a bit intimidated disagreeing with a professor/teacher, even if the professor wouldn't hold it against them. Plus some teachers do abuse their power, I remember a year or two ago about some teacher who, during a class discussion on homosexuality sent a kid to the office because the kid stated that his religious beliefs are against homosexuality. Then the teacher sent another kid to the office because that kid told the teacher it was unfair of him to send the first kid to the office for disagreeing with him. I'm basing this off of memory of the story though, so some details might be a little different.

This is one reason why I consider my Philosophy teacher from last term to be the greatest teacher I've ever had. You see he encouraged everybody to fight with him on every idea and belief that he had, and he actually would grade you on whether you participated in these conversations.

It was awesome got an A too.

Interesting. But there must've been times where people really did agree with him.

I had a philosophy teacher who would take the polar opposite stance of absolutely any position anyone had in order to get them to think of their position (regardless of whether he agreed or not). If someone said that Nazis were bad, he'd say something along the lines of "Why? I thought they did a good job."

Philosophy teachers are the best.

No. In fact, I think it best that people who really do not want kids avoid having them.

This doesn't sound true. I bet the student said something more offensive than that.

No. When I was in High School.. I was zoned for public high school that had terrible teachers and students.. Some of teachers being worse than the students.. I was a high school containing 4000 people and no respect.. I'm sure it's still like this.. So I actually believe this guy.. I've seen worse from teachers back in High School.. It really depends on where you live.

there were many classes i was morally opposed to such as history and math, and whenever i tried to disrupt the learning i was also sent to the office. So i believe it.
