You would let your country be taken over??? Whatever suits you.Vilot_HeroWho cares about where you happened to be born? It's arbitrary and meaningless. I'm more interested in living. I'd die for a good cause, like if my death meant 1,000,000 stupid people would also die but I wouldn't die for my country. And dying for your country is a weird way to say it. Like Patton said "You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win a war by making the other sonofa***** die for his."
If the US is attack on US soil by a large army, you will either fight or die.
You're lieing to your self if you think anything else, specailly moving to some other country like Mexico or Canada. America is the only Free major super power in the world. If you don't think the prevelling force want attack Canada, you need to think again. The same thing for every other free or so called free country. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not in the military and nor to I want to fight. No one wins in War. But you can bet you game collection I'll be the first one to take up arms against any one attacking my country. I will how ever make a list of Obama supporters and leave them to defend them sleves ;)
well no but I would kill for my country if it were being attacked. I suppose if I died while defending it then ya I would.
But if youre talking about sacrificing myself then no, I wouldnt.
2 things:
1. Why do people always say they are willing to die for their country?Dieing for your country will not solve anything. Killing is the way to go.
2. I am not big on dying, so "No" to the TC question. But, if someone invades America I am going on an Invader-Killing spree.
You would let your country be taken over??? Whatever suits you.Vilot_HeroThat is a oversimplified question.. Why would the country be attacked? Could the countires out look be better under the power of the invader? etc etc..
I don't meant o flame here, but I can't believe so many of you people wouldn't bother defending your own country, if it were invaded. I don't know what has happened to this generation, but there's simply no excuse for recieving from a country without being willing to serve it. If you really don't like your country or its policies, try to change them through the political process, or move to another one, but I can't understand staying in a country and reaping the benefits of livig there and then running away when it needs you. I guess we really are the next Rome. There are stories from the Hun invasion of Roman men living high-quality cosmopolitan lifestyles being so afraid of the idea of defending that lifestyle that they cut off their own thumbs to disqualify themselves. Honestly, we're doomed if our generation really feels this way.fidosim
well, they say it now, but if an enemy bomb dropped on their house and killed their family, I bet they'd take up arms against the invaders.
There is a certain pride poster's have in claiming they will do one thing (which goes against "the norm/acceptable" thing) and what would actually happen should the hypothetical situation turn real.
Rest assured, I feel my generation would relish a good conflict. Its like Tyler from Fight Club; we have no great war, we have no great conflict. ANd we are a little lost, have a lack of identity, because of it.
Although I gotta be honest I dont have much faith in anyone under 19 years old nowadays. Good god im turning into an old man...

becuase despite common "feeling" on the subject you dont own your country, your country owns you.
oh I dont know about that. The man i voted for is in office, Im pretty sure that makes him my president.
my dad petitioned recently to have a U-turn sign installed at an intersection, and through the local government was able to get one put in place.
My mom has received six pink slips (she works at a middle school) in the past two years and, by defying the government, protesting, and gaining support, has been able to keep her job thus far.
Yep, Im pretty sure despite all the cynicism, our government is in our hands.
More importantly, if our country was invaded, who would we be fighting for? Would it be our government? Maybe, but I think more likely we would be fighting for our family, friends, homes, and country. This is the distinction people need to start making: your country is not your government; America is not the same as the United States government.

That is completely different question in my mind. if I get attacked I will defend me and people around me. But that is completely different then would I defend my country if its attacked.
The reason for that has many factors but one is clearly that people dont have a common definition for what "country" is or is not and often boil it down to an idea and not something real.
For example, if someone attacks the president is that an attack on the country in this context? in my view no.
yep I agree with you (see last part of my post above)
Honestly, we're doomed if our generation really feels this way.fidosimoh noes, we are doomed! I'm sure in the past, every single able-bodied male (and female?) was fully willing to live and die specifically for their country.

[QUOTE="fidosim"] Honestly, we're doomed if our generation really feels this way.-eddy-Are we really? Perhaps it's good that citizen have the critic sight to see that you needn't follow your goverment all the way to death. Yes, and when the enemy runs over your country how would you react to that? If they do it yours you can be sure they are going to have similar results in other countries.
I'm not killing someone out of patriotism, and I'm not dying for it either. It's not like the Golden Throne, that your empire's doomed if you don't give your life. If everyone agreed to stop giving their lives for their country we'd be all right.quiglythegreatI pretty much agree with that.

If they do it yours you can be sure they are going to have similar results in other countries. 1. You dont own your country your country owns you so asking to defend it is asking to defend those who rule over you. 2. I think it was Jefferson that said the goverment should be over turned every 20 years or so. What exactly do you think he is saying there? We have voted our government into power therefore we are the ones to blame if they screw up, and no I see defending the country as defending my homeland which is one of the most important things to me.
