Soldiers are in the Army. Marines are in the Marine Corps.
There both consider soldiers though. Just because one branch has a special name for themselves doesnt mean they are not consider soldiers
I joined the army 9 years ago and ets about 1.5 years ago; it had its up and downs and so did the deployment to iraq that also had some ups and downs.

What were the ups and downs of being in Iraq? Also, were you afraid and what was the most terrifying experience you had there?
Marines are Marines. You never call a Marine a soldier. As said, soldiers are in the Army, not the Marines. While all Marines are basic riflemen (yes, even Women Marines are basic riflemen) grunts are the ground pounders, wingers deal with aviation, but the idea behind the Marines is that they are a highly mobile light infantry type unit. Originally, they were only stationed on ships as sharpshooters amongst other reasons. They were the guys who fought at sea unlike the Army who fought on land. The mission of the Marines changed, especially after WWI where Germans actually gave Marines the nickname Devil Dogs.
Marines guard brigs on Navy ships as well as being gunners.
The Army has primarily been a land attack force and feature large armies and mechanized forces to seize land and occupy it. Marines, doing amphibious landings, go in, fight and clear out the enemy and the Army goes in to occupy the territory (this is what happened in WWII though there were Army amphibious assaults in MacArthur's Southwest Pacific Area of Command but not in Nimitz's Pacific Area of Command. Since then, the Marines have perfected amphibious assaults and have dedicated amphibious assault vehicles.

I dare you to say that to a marine :PWell I'm definitely not afraid too ha. I have family members that's served in every single branch of the Military except for the Coast Guard. A lot of my friends are in the Marines and I've got one in the Navy.
And I did call my friend (whose a Marine) a Soldier and he gave me a little chant of there's that was cool to hear. I'm not in the military though so it doesn't matter to me, they're all doing the same thing in my book which is serving and protecting this country..just in different ways. Normally I would've said Troops which is what I'm really wishing I would've done, I'll make sure I go back and edit that so it doesn't confuse anyone else.

Soldiers is a generic term; however, the Marines' main purpose is Naval Infantry, which means amphibious warfare. It is the Navy that moves them around, whereas the Army moves its men with its own aircraft or with assistance from the Air Force.
Currently our military isn't doing anything I'd want to. They are going to deploy an X amount of soldiers to to the middle east to train some people into policemen/military. They will fail and it's no use. They are just doing it to be in a good relationship with the US. I won't go into Iraq and stuff but it's unnecessary.
nope... not untill our goverment isn't corrupted then it's not happening
and if i did
i would only want to be a sniper, or be in airforce... any other way your going get fun down if true war broke out

During Desert Storm, Saddam massed tanks and troops on the Turkish border. I was placed ona short list to man and defend a Space and Missile Warning site if his troops crossed the border.
My family was upset and didn't want me to go, but I was ready if the order was given. Saddam's troops never crossed, as the Turks faced him down. Regardless, I was ready to follow orders.
Only if i get to pick who goes down in the foxhole with merawsavon
Hey big boy!!! ;)
Since my MOSes precluded me from going into foxholes, I guess you are out of luck. :P

You prove my point. Soldiers is a generic terms that why its applies both to the army and marines[QUOTE="topsemag55"][QUOTE="AngelNeo00"]

The US Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy, not the US Army. As a former Marine, we have always prided ourselves on being a Marine and not a soldier. Soldiers are in the US Army, not the Marines.
The military won't change that.[QUOTE="LikeHaterade"]
No. My life is my own.
thegerg
Signing my life away will change that. That's the first step when joining the military. I'll take my own orders.
One thing I don't like about the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is the fact that they are entail guerilla warfare; they're not conventional. You have more of a chance of dying as a result of driving over an IED as opposed to dying in open combat. I wouldn't want to die that way and I'd feel very unsecure walking around or driving around because of the IEDs.
BluRayHiDef
Thats the future of warfare.. First world countries invading third world countries.
I never sidned my life away, niether has any other service member I know. Also, no matter who you work for you will be taking orders.thegerg
This is what a lot of people do not realize. Unless you work for yourself and have no clients of any sort, you will always have to answer to and do as someone else wants you to.
They also can be fired a lot easier for not doing as the boss wants.
Yes... Actually, I DID join... and got discharged. I don't think I'll try joining again.
ArcticNinja21
Why were you discharged?
Medical reasons. My recruiter actually had me lie about my health to get in.ArcticNinja21
A recruiter allowed you to lie? OMG. That's so unprofessional. What division of the military did you enlist in?
My personality and outside-the-box way of thinking wouldn't mesh well with military analism; I'd be a terrible soldier so I probably wouldn't ever join.UT_Wrestler
I am naturally a non-conformist and I was able to do OK in the military.
No, never ever ever because I don't want to die and if was ever drafted I would kill myself because if I didn't I would only prolong my already shortened life.

You don't know anything about the military, then.

It's the most professional thing in the world. Why would you let an injury you had when you were five disqualify you from service? Don't be so naive.

The Navy.I already have joined the Military, leaving for Parris Island in August. Why? The way I see it they are paying you to give you training, room and board, college help, and most importantly including you in a brotherhood thats been around for over two centuries. Also, it helps to talk to people before making any decisions... I had so many misconceptions about the military until I spoke with some retired Marines and of course recruiters.
Interesting experience ill tell you. It's pretty sad how one could talk like that about another human being.XxspritexX
What are you talking about?
I'd like to join the military, just to try serving my country instead of leeching off of it. I don't think I am going to join, though..because I'm lazy, and I'll always be lazier than I have willpower to get fit.Deihjan
I don't understand this statement at all it makes absolutely no sense to me.
