Well I honestly would have probably gotten an abortion, although given that she is already born I would say no, it is wrong to kill the child, her brain is fully functional so unless she has no sensory input aside from feel due to the fact that she has no face and is basically trapped in her own body I would probably consider it wrong to euthanize her.

I think your perspective would change drastically if it was actually your child. I mean i could say yes now.. but years down the line if i was to have a kid in the same situation i would probably be very against that idea.

Yes. Exactly.

You say this although I have a choice. Of course, I would keep the girl alive, an don't refer to her as "it". It's disrespectful.

[QUOTE="-GeordiLaForge-"]Do so many of you really think she should be "euthanized?????" Do you think we should "euthanize" kids with down syndrome as well??? That's awful... just awful. Let the poor girl live. I would rather be disfigured than dead! I don't see other people with crippled body parts begging to be killed, and I doubt that she would want to die either! I would fight for the survival of my son, no matter the cost...BR1NG3R
I think people with diseases and deformities should be ended whilst they are still in the womb.

So people who are born with 9 fingers out of 10 should die as well? What about people with Downs-syndrome? There are couples out there that both have Downs-syndrome who live a happy life for them. It's not anyone's right to take that happiness away from them.

Answer me this,

And what happens when the parents die? Nobody is going to marry her, it will be difficult for her to have true close friends in her life. Put it simply it will be even more miserable for her once the parents die which they would have to eventually...

The only reason you can perceive anything and ENJOY anything, or be happy at all, is through your senses. She can't smell, see, taste, or communicate. That's it, DONE, happiness completely vanquished. She will eventually wish she was dead. I was temporarily deaf for a while and pretty much couldn't handle it...of course she is going to be be born that way and know no different, but still.... Abortion should have been done, and infanticide is terrible, so I think euthanasia is a good option here...

Being born with 9 fingers isn't really stopping anyone from enjoying their life like they are supposed to.. Having no face is something completey different, oh yeah I don't know about them down sybdrome children either, I'd opt for an abortion. And in my opinion, It's okay to take the right before they have it, which is why I support abortion. Your own choice to give that life.

Hmph, this is certainly a difficultr situation. I want to go with the self-righteous answer, but then again, the option of death may not be so bad. She is basically in a vegetable state, with the exception that she can move (which doesn't make much of a difference), and I know that me and many other people would not want to live their life as a vegetable.

Just because she is disfigured doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings.

Happiness is something we should all experience, no matter what.

To finally euthanize this post- "I think" is what was asked of us. It remains only what "I think". It is not what "Faceless girl thinks" "Nobody will marry her" "she'll be a circus freak" is still what "I think" She should be allowed to live long enough to be able to tell us what "She thinks". Maybe what she will eventually communicate in some Helen Keller way (another one we should have euthanized?) is going to be "I like being alive" or she may say "I want to die". NOT OUR CALL. Maybe the purpose of her birth is to become the textbook case of how to eliminate the diesease she has, so no other parents will ever face (no pun-seriously) such a situation. Maybe her cured deformity will give you all better plastic surgery techniques, or let you clone yourselves finally. It is our opinion that she is suffering, it is not hers-the one who really owns her life. She now lives. We are not allowed to kill her, as much as many of us desire to do so in the name of living well.

It is beyond being a OT Forum descision anymore.

I think the choice should have been if they should have got a abortion or not.. I most certainly would.. The parents clearly knew the child's disfigurement in the room with ultrasound.

Honestly she's not that bad off, and since she was born that way she'll automatically adjust to what she needs in her life.

There are thousands of children that are much worse off that I would probably consider a mercy killing in those situations, but this isn't one of them. While she doesn't have a chance for a normal life, she does have a chance at a happy life, which would be cruel of you to deny.

I know it sounds wrong, but I would let her die. Day by day, she would slowly die on the inside until one day she takes her own life.
I know I would.

I would have to let her go too. Let's face it guys, her life is gonna suck. How would you feel if you're forced to eat through your stomach and can't see, talk or hear?

I think a life like that her suffering would out weigh the positives, I couldn't keep her alive.
