[QUOTE="horgen123"][QUOTE="junglist101"]That's what people say who have never had a dog that meant something to them...

junglist101

I've never had a pet at all... If that explains something.

It does. I had dogs in my family as a kid but never paid much attention to them. A few years ago my wife and I got a dog. Our dog turned out to be quite special. Different than most dogs. It's difficult to explain but anyone who has spent any time with him knows what I'm talking about. This changed my views not only on pets, but animals in general. He has become literally a member of my family. So to bring some understanding, just think about someone you care about and love.

i felt bad i never payed any attention to the dog after i got her. neither did my family that miuch. but once we got our latest dog, them and i fall in love with our new dog. she gets so much attention from us. and i agree, pets are like part of our family

I'm pretty sure that has crossed the mind of most people in this thread.....but I know I'd be quite saddened if my dog died. It dosen't matter which one gets saved, someone is going to end up hurting.....uhh.....apart from the one who falls off the cliff...

Yes, but don't you think it's kind of selfish? I mean, you would be hurt and maybe a couple of immediate family members, as apposed to an entire network of people, freinds, family, coworkers etc.

It's a tough decision. but thinking about it. If I were the human at the end of the line. So, I'd probably have to save the person. what would be more interesting is if you put a stranger at the end of the line and two people at the top of the line. One is your dog the other is a person that has wronged you in a thousand ways and you hate with all your heart. IF you save your dog you have to save him to.

That's sad. Wouldn't you feel pretty **** when the news article says, "man left to die in order to save dog"? Dogs have a very short lifespan compared to humans, so you would rob a person 50-60? years of his life (depending on how old joey was) in order to let your dog live for another 10 if you're lucky?

In those 50/60 years he could rape a child, murder someone, create the next Two and a Half Men, anything.

*shrugs* I can't say I'm really too bothered by that personally. My gut reaction would be to save my dog first.....and if people hate me for that....well.....what's done is done. I would've simply done what felt "right" at the time. I dunno.....I feel like I'm trying to convince myself there's no real right and wrong in this situation :P On the one hand, a human life is regarded as more important.....and on the other hand, I love my dog as a member of the family. It would really depend on the moment.....though I would certaintly one to save one more than the other.

I know alot of you say you would go for your dog, but I'm not convinced. I don't believe for a second you guys would save the dog when the 20 year old Joey was screaming out to you for help. Or what if it was 20 year old Andrea, who's smoking hot... Then who would you save? :P

If it was my cat (since I don't have a dog). I would first analyse the cliff. Dependant on the height, I would then choose. If the cliff was high enough, I would save joey, knowing that cats have a low terminal velocity and can survive infinitely high falls. If the cliff was lower though. I would go for my cat since she is important to me, and I would hope joey has the smarts to either hold himself on for a few more seconds, or find a way to save himself. If he fell, it's tough luck but I did what I could.

put yourself in joey's shoes you've slipped you're hanging by a thread and then this DUMBASS comes along with his dog the dog comes over to sniff you and gets spooked and falls somehow this dog manages to hang onto the cliff edge (which on its own is completely silly but whatever) you and the dog have a similar amount of time left in this world and despite your eloquent beseeching, he ignores you, saves his dog and whistles along on his merry way while your head splits like a cantaloupe
