[QUOTE="testfactor888"][QUOTE="jam19911000"][QUOTE="W1ckedGo0se"] lol... when you walk by smoke one smoking nothing is going to happen to you... it's only when your in the same house or car that someone smokes in when there smoking in it that you may have a problem... it the open air the smoke isn't going to stay near you long enough to truly hurt you...

I'd rather not take my chances. Besides, it smells terrible to walk into a restaurant shared by smokers!

Than don't go to that restaurant. I haven't seen a restaurant that allows smoking in some time but I used to work for one awhile back and when people would complain about the smoking section (it did happen a few times) we would just point them in the direction of the non-smoking area. If they diden't like it they we're free to leave. Course they changed the law since than where I live and now smoking is not allowed in any restaurant but still allowed inside the casinos.

Believe me to someone who doesn't smoke the smell is enough to make anything unappetizing and in some cases make everything you eat take like smoke I am really glad that smoking isn't allow in restraurants anymore.

Such is life about the restaurants. Likely won't change back though I know (especially in Vegas) there have been many attempts to repeal it. People can just as easily smoke right outside the door and you might just have to deal with it and inhale that tiny bit of smoke as you enter the restaurant. Hope it doesn't ruin your night :o

Speaking of restaurants I think they need a "sin" tax for those... The money from that can go to healthcare along with the money from cigarette taxes then I'll be happy... If they don't feel like taxing everything that is bad for you (if they did far more people would be enraged over this other then just us smokers) then they shouldn't be given the free right to tax anything for that reason...

No but when the smoking was allowing in them there was many a time were the smell of smoke was everywhere and a few times just ended up leaving before the food was served knowing that I wouldn't be able to taste it anyways.

lol if there were tax breaks for people who were attempting to quit smoking, every smoker would be "attempting" to quit smoking.

It's like welfare in Canada. It makes me sick and frightened and for people that live here I'm sure you know what I am talking about. I am against it because it's giving them free money.

[QUOTE="Empirefrtw"][QUOTE="JustPlainLucas"]

There's already a smoking thread, I know, but I feel if I post this in the other thread, it would only prove to derail it, and that's not what I want to do. Anyway, we all know cigarettes and other tobacco products are taxed up the ass. The reason for this is to make them less desirable, but millions upon millions of people are still smoking. So, what I think would be a better solution would to offer a tax break for people who are clinically trying to quit. What I mean by clinically is smokers that actually have to go to a doctor for prespcription medication or some other forms to help them kick the habit so there's some kind of proof they can submit to the IRS to indeed prove they're quitting. Instead of trying to get people to quit by charging them more money, I honestly believe they should give them back money for quitting. What do you all think?

W1ckedGo0se

How about we give the tax money from smokes to all the people who don't that would be great.

I'm sure that would be great, but the fact that they are singling out a minority to excessively tax should raise a red flag in most people eyes... But, maybe your fine with the government making your choices for you by taxing anything they see as not good for you, but I thought I had some freedoms...

It's a choice whether to buy the product and pay the tax. Thus, there is nothing wrong with it.

no way. i see yet another round of IRS scams coming out of this. fake doctors notes. people who arent really trying to quit just wanting a refund. and people getting a note saying they quit only to get a full refund and then try and get back on the program later. rinse and repeat. i say tax the holy hell out of them if you reallywant folks to quit. but then again i say this isnt the governments job to make people quit smoking.

Am against all sales and income taxes and their implemented tax breaks anyways. Abolish the IRS. Governent needs to live within it's own means of fees and tariffs and stop expanding into every aspect of our lives.

Not to sidetrack the conversation, but if you're against all sales and income taxes then how excatly do you propose the government be funded? Without taxes those fees and tarrifs ain't gonna pay for much.
