[QUOTE="Ilived"]This one time, my mom stepped on my parrot with high heel shoes and then she says "WHY THE HELL DO YOUR LEAVE YOUR BIRD ON THE FLOOR!" She knows we never leave our parrot in the cage, because it absolutely hates the cage.nosferatu

We had a cockatoo when I still lived with my parents. Parrots are big birds, kinda hard to imagine not seeing a big, brightly colored creature walking across the floor.

It's funny how people never like to take responsibility for their mistakes. This is an exampl at an extreme, but none of us like to. How many times have we stubbed our toe on a table or something and gone "Stupid effing table..."?

Yeah happens all the time. I proceed to smack the table/wall when this happens. As for the ferret, at least its ok

TC let his ferret run around in a private area that few people have access to, some girl came up to the area through the 50lb stormgate and slammed it on his ferret and didn't bother to help it even though she saw that it was in trouble (screaming loudly) then didn't even apologize.

I thought that. I love ferrets! I've always wanted one :( I think you should trap that girl in the door and see how she likes it, people can be so cruel sometimes

Im glad everything is okay and I'm sorry you feel that way - and honestly I'd be pissed off too.

But on that note: I would never let my animal run around with no leash like that if it had the least bit of inclination of escaping or has little to no recall whatsoever. Now unless you posted a sign for people saying loose ferret in the vicinity or something - you cant really expect much from that girl. I mean, what if your ferret got through - would you have known? Would you find it easily? Who would be to blame then?

MrGeezer

Yeah, it's like those people who let their cats run around the neighborhood, and then expect sympathy when the things get run over.

It's like, "what did you expect?" If they cared about their pets, why were they letting them play in the ****ing street?

And even worse are the people who let their DOGS run around, and then get all defensive when their dogs bite someone and the county siezes their dogs and puts them to sleep. It's like, they have no one to blame for themselves. If they wouldn't have allowed their 150 pound rottweillers to have access to small tasty children, this wouldn't have ever been a ****ing issue.

There've been at least 3 occasions when I've been walking down the street minding my own business, and I've been threatened by dogs that people let run loose. Thankfully I had my dagger on my. I never had to use it, but I've needed to pull it out on all three occasions. And those dogs are lucky as **** that they decided to back off, because I don't pull out a weapon unless I damn well intend to use it. You keep pets, you keep those ****ers on a short ****ing leash when you're in public. Because it's NOT other peoples' job to look after your pets, and just because it's nice to you doesn't mean it's gonna be nice to some 4 year old kid walking home from school in the afternoon.

...u pulled a knife on some dogs...wtf u gunna shank them i reckon ur full of bs. Man who the hell wud think there a badman for pulling a knife on some dogs bet ya wudnt on a person cos u know theyd just laugh at u then proceed to smash ur face in

This post of yours has shown you to be EXACTLY the kind of person that this post was about... you are that SOME PERSON. Congrats that you think you're such a "hardas*"... you aren't.

Small furry creatures carry rabies. :|

RABIES, dude. RABIES. We're talking about one of the worst diseases known. Ever seen a rabies victim? This **** is NOT ****ing pretty. THere's no cure. And you have a VERY short window of opportunity to get the vaccine after being bitten, and then you're talking about an inevitably, slow, agonizing death with pretty much a 100% rate of death.

Dude, RABIES. RA-BIES!!! I'd rather get bitten by the most deadly snake on the planet than to get bitten by a cute furry animal with rabies. You get rabies, we're talking about a 100%!!!!!! fatality rate. You get rabies, you ARE gonna die, and it WILL be a horrible death.

MrGeezer

I'll be a Dr. very soon, so there's MY credentials for discussing this. I would be almost willing to guarantee that you haven't seen someone dying of rabies either. Want to know why? Cause there's about 20 cases per year in the United States. 20... out of 300 million people. Also, your information on treatment is wrong. Know why we don't give people the vaccine like we do tetanus, etc? Because it is still effective AFTER being bitten. The incubation period for rabies is so long that we can mount an effective immune response to a vaccine before its symptoms strike. 6 weeks tends to be the short side of the incubation period. It travels retrograde up your nerves until it reaches your brain. Therefore, the further the bite is from your head, the latent period will be even longer. Fail for you.

The remainder of your post is just a rant about how you don't like animals and other people's pets. You are just one of those people who only cares about themselves and their stuff. That's your right, but it surely doesn't make me think highly of you. I hope for your sake this is just some internet persona you put on.

TO EVERYONE ELSE: Thanks for your concern. I really just wanted to get it all off my chest last night. I appreciate the fact that the majority of you got the point I was actually trying to make. I understood that I was at least partially at fault here because I let the ferret run around the area where she wouldn't expect it (I always understood that), but that was never my opint here (and it had been safe for the past 2 months). It was the way she reacted once she realized what was going on. Combined with the puppy story from the same afternoon it just made me wonder what is wrong with people. Oh yeah, and then there was Geezer too.

This is kind of unrelated, but yesterday as I was walking home I noticed three squirrels going after each other on this tree on my left and one of them all of the sudden ran out in the road as a car went by. It happened so fast but the thing was literally about 4 inches from hitting the rear tire and it just halted in its place right before it was too late, as it ran back to the tree to my left. I mean wow, talk about awkward moment almost seeing a squirrel get run over like that. It's strange when it happens straight in your face when the little creature just loses its life so gorely. Good thing it didn't get hit. camreeno360

My friend and I saw something like that happen, only it got squashed, it's eyes shot out of it's skull with a nice crunch. lol Kinda funny, yet sad.

You're the kind of jerk who keeps their dog in a small cage all day aren't you? Keeping animals in a cage is unfair, plain and simple.

I said partially my fault because I had checked the situation out and it was safe. Had she just let the door close on its own, it would have closed slow enough that there probably wouldn't have been a problem. It was a combination of her not paying attention, her trying to slam the door behind her (fortunately it can't be slammed, but it will go faster), and me letting my ferret run around that caused the problem. Hence... partially since any one of those on its own would not have caused a problem.

Congrats on being a douche though. You and Geezer should hang out sometime. You can shoot squirrels and people's cats with your pellet guns.

If you can't own a pet without imposing it on the public, YOU DON'T GET PETS. Anything else is gross neglect, and it is your fault if your animal gets run over, taken to the pound, or slammed in a door. Owning a pet isn't a right, it's a privilege. And if you're not willing to exercise the appropriate level of responsibility, YOU DON'T DO IT.

Dude just because you hate animals and pet owners doesnt mean you have the right to kill a living breathing thing without its consent. So if a cat runs loose and gets run over, what the hell it didnt get asked to get run over and just because the cat got loose that doesnt mean the owner doesnt care. Man i really want to hurt you so bad right now.

Yeah, that's EXACTLY what it means. If you care about your pets, you make sure that they're safe. If you care so little about them that you let them play in the streets, then you're unfit to own pets.

i have no idea why but some people really dont care about animals same thing for people who leave babies on doorsteps or throw them in dumpsters for some reason they dont like or dont want them and will do anything to get rid of them now, and about your ferret maybe she saw it and didnt like it or something and trapped it in the door on purpose and thats whay she didnt seem to care to help it, its hard to belive sometimes that some people are like that and hard to belive some of the things they do, which is why we have laws and groups like the humane society to go after peoole like that

I usually don't care for any cruelty, since it does not involve me, but when i would my pets (3 cats and a pure husky) i start caring. Other than that, i don't pay attention, but unlike what your girlfriend did, i would release the ferret or at least pay attention since i know it's outside and that situation would have never come up.

Excuse me?I guess that could be expected from someone who likes to slit their wrists, because it feels good

I feel bad for your ferrat. I would have tried to help, but I can understand if some people would be scared of it. I wouldn't want to pet it or anything, because I don't trust animals in general, but if it was stuck like that I would have tried to help it.

That's pretty rude really - I mean you have to admit she needs to take some responsibility for it. Obviously she can't do much but at least stick around and show some concern.

Figured I'd put this out into the world since I'm still stunned by it hours later.

I was sitting out in my apartment building's enclosed courtyard area studying earlier today. Like I usually do, I brought my ferret out to let it run around, dig, etc. Anyway, I'm sitting there studying when all of a sudden I hear this horrible screaming noise. It's almost like a squeek toy that has gone insane. It took me a second or 2 to put 2 and 2 together before I sprinted to the source of the noise.

This girl in my building had opened the door to come out and paid no attention whatsoever as she slammed shut a 50lb hurricane door... with my ferret in the doorframe (I assume it was trying to sneak into the building). It started screaming as it was trapped in between the door bottom and the frame of this incredibly heavy door and she just kept walking. She turned around as she saw me start sprinting and just stared at the door. She made no effort to help the poor creature, just stared.

I was a good 150-200ft away and the scream was loud and terrible to me. There's no way she didn't hear it. If I'd heard a god-awful noise like that I would have turned around even if I thought it was just the door squeaking. But to turn around, hear a noise like that, see a trapped animal and do NOTHING? I would think most people's instinct would be to immediately help and that it wouldn't even be something their mind had to process. All she did afterwards was ask "Is it ok?" and when I said I had absolutely no idea she said "Ok" and walked out to go read her book.

Can people really be so absolutely heartless towards animals? To make matters worse, not 2 hours later a friend of mine came up with a 3 month old (give or take, my estimate) golden retriever puppy that they had found walking next to the highway this afternoon where somebody had obviously dumped her. What is wrong with people?

**For those who care: vet says he thinks the ferret will be fine. She's very, very sore and not active right now. She's on some pain meds for it, poor thing.

Wow im surprised it survived that. But when you live in an apartment you should be wary of the people who live there, apartments are full of idiots usually. So was it a little girl who did this?

Generally, you can't trust people do so anything right. Some people just amaze me with their ignorance and selfishness. They're just completely oblivious to anybody else's needs or rights.

Montaya

Probably 20-something.

Sorry man also you kind of should have kept a closer eye.Mercenary848

I agree and have acknowledged that. There's a little bit of risk in everything you do. I figured that it's a massive courtyard (probably a good 3000 square ft or so), she prefers to be in the planted/dirt areas away from the door, and there is such minimal traffic (I often sit all day and nobody else comes or goes) that the chances of this happening were pretty slim and the benefits were pretty high for her to be outside, get lots of exercise, be able to dig, etc. I've checked out every potential other hazard before and nothing but that door ever worried me. Just figured that the probability of the door actually causing a problem was pretty low. I was just trying to do a good thing for her that (and have been for the past 2 months), through some bad chains of circumstances, ended up in her getting hurt.

I don't have a dog.... hence i said "i hate animals" :|

The women has a right to slam any door she wants to..... Keep your stupid ferret where it belongs....

killtactics

She has no more a right to utilize that door in such a manner than I do to have my pet out there (loose pets are permitted on this courtyard and is one of the reasons it is there). In fact, I have more right to since she isn't even a resident in the building. I'm assuming she was using somebody else's security card. Just keep your mouth shut and perhaps you won't come across as such a jerk.

MrGeezer
Read what I wrote to killtactics.... I'm not imposing it on the public. I'm utilizing building facilities in a manner in which they were intended. You really are a moron. Sometimes pets escape. Particularly very inquisitive animals who will find every single fault in your attempts to prevent it. If you think you can 100% prevent an animal from escaping then you are underestimating them or you are keeping them in an extremely confined area that is just cruel.

I'm just suprised you have a pet ferret.mracoon

Adopted her from a neighbor who decided that it was cruel of her to keep it locked up in a cage all day (I had a key and would go take her out sometimes, but that still isn't nice). Wouldn't have been my 1st guess for a pet either, but she's actually really sweet. They're kind of a combo between a cat and a dog. They are more affectionate than cats (she'll come stand at my feet wanting to be picked up when I walk into my bedroom), they play like kittens (swatting at things, etc), are smart and trainable like dogs, mine's never bitten anyone and are very clean (litterbox users). By smart I mean she actually watched where I stored her treats and when I was out of the room one day pushed a cardboard box clear across the room so she could climb up onto the shelf and get them. That's memory, planning, tool using, and execution... I was thoroughly impressed. Not to mention they are also pretty low maintenance: sleep 16-18hrs a day by nature (fits my busy lifestyle), tend to clean up after themselves since they are hoarders (there's currently 2 separate piles under my bed, one of toys and one of dry food), etc.

So yeah, I'm more of a dog person but know that keeping a dog in an city apartment is kinda mean. By coincidence got to know my neighbor's ferret and took her when she was trying to get rid of her because I had become pretty attached to it.

Well what if the girl was autistic? She wouldn't know how to react in that situation. Yeah that's right, you might be making fun of an autistic person. Way to go. :P

its a public place and you have your pet running around like you own the place so you by no means have the right to get mad at someone who was minding their own business and was intruded upon by your responsibility. she could of at least opened the door for you pet, ill give you that, but some fo the blame does fall on you

Happy to hear your ferret is ok, and seems like some people really just dont care. By me there was this kid (about 16) who would go outside with a BBgun and shoot cats for no reason...... He shot one of my cats once, right in the neck, what a idiot.
