They're voluntarily starving themselves. And for the USA to play into the political gamesmanship of her enemies, as you put it, "it's bad idea politically", is to show further weakness. Personally, I don't have a strong opinion. I was being hyperbolic earlier, but I do think that these prisoners are treated way too softly and should have executed long ago after conviction by a military court.PC_gamer4life

We can't stop playing it. It's naive to think we can.

It's naive to think the American political leadership should bow to the pressures from the New York Times and Al-Jazeera.

We're not bowing to either of those organizations. We're bowing to public opinion, which has been happening since governments came into existence.

There's a duality at play, here. Sometimes the government must follow the will of the people, other times it must lead. Much of the Guantanamo Bay "issue" is an example of the American government (unsurprisingly under socialist Obama) bowing to pressure from the domestic and international left, as well as other enemies of America. This is why these terrorists have access to gold-plated American medical, optical, and dental care. This is why they have exercise equipment shipped in for their benefit (manufactured in "Islamic nations"). This is why their Islamic dietary desires are indulged. And on, and on, and on.

The same military policies would have existed in a republican administration. Don't play games with me, I'm been around here for awhile.

The military would do the same exact thing under President Bush.

No, but what if there are, which isn't exactly out of the question.

So you wanna burn down the whole system because of inevitable imperfections? Ever hear of the phrase, "don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good?". Apparently not.

WTF......no one said burn down the system...he said give them a trial. Honestly....is it that hard to read posts?

You are, or at the very least you came off that way. You just said this was all drummed up by radical liberals when that isn't the case. Bush wasn't a radial liberal.

Radical leftism has, in some ways, infected the Republican party. Bush (and his entire family) express this infection in several dimensions, one of which being his choices in prosecuting wars.

Don't you get it, BossPerson?  It's leftists like yourself, in the aggregate, that are to blame for how wars are prosecuted in a sort of half-assed manner.  You cry about imaginary "innocents" at Guantanamo, about little Mohamad and Fatima that got killed by a drone, but you don't realize that this is inevitable in a war, and especially inevitable when the nature of the enemy is to embed itself with so-called "civilians" in order to have photographs of dead Muslim children to send to the BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, which you then consume to fuel your artificial outrage.  And here we are....

This dramatization of "torture" done to detainees who willingly submit themselves to this by a well-known actor/rapper who chooses to willingly submit himself to the same really doesn't mean anything. A stunt like this is proof that this is actually NOT torture. If this is video is to be belived, then all the doctors who have to intubate patients on a daily basis should be thrown in jail. Or maybe they should just let the f*ckers die of starvation. No one would know or give a f*ck anyway.

If they feel like it, sure. Why should we tell them what they can do with their lives?

And yes, I know you're going to say they're prisoners and they shouldn't be given a choice since their life is no longer their own, but that doesn't really seem right either now does it...

Why not? The U.S. government has already taken away their right to a trial. For an innocent man in captivity (and I assure you that Gitmo has quite a few of them), the government has already done irreparable damage to him. How is starving them any worse?

Wait what? What kind of bullsh*t is this? When has it ever been the case that a country engaged in warfare did not consider winning a primary concern? The only reason this sentiment exists is because the electorate has been compromised with disloyal muslim sympathizers like you.

So you seriously think that it is sensible to go to war just for the sake of winning a war

It's a moronic question.  Do we not bomb a city because there may be some "innocent civilians" in there?  Do you empty out an entire prison because there may be some wrongfully convicted individuals in there?  Do we waive a quarantine on an infected area because some people may not be infected with whatever disease we're afraid is spreading?  Don't be such a fool.

Explain the Germans and Japanese we took captive during WWII then. Not one of them were given a trial and many Germans were sent to the US mainland and others to Canada.

Not surprised by the comments here it looks like YouTube comments. I guess this is completely legal because US laws don't apply outside the states. Good for America flexing its power, bad for prisoners refusing to eat. It's because it's pork right? It shouldn't be that hard to feed them turkey instead of ham.

Is there much difference? I can't see any. Both have taken up arms against an enemy that they declared war with.
