I'm on the fence about it.

I agree that sex is being thrown around too much now. But I could see if you were intimate with a girlfriend/boyfriend of a few years.

I think people make too big a deal about sex...as long as it is done responsibly there shouldn't be a problem. The whole marriage thing is an awful idea as many couples don't want to get married.

I think it's a bit silly that they encourage it in Health Class. They do teach safe sex which is good but they never encourage masturbation I don't know why it's such a taboo. And now days there isn't much of a point in being married ever.

There's nothing wrong with having sex before marriage. If a couple isn't responsible enough for a child, that's their burden. Btw, there's already a thread on this.

It should be something shared between two people who love each other very deeply and have been in a relationship long enough to know something about their other half. All marriage is really good for is some tax benefits (mind you, they are pretty good tax benefits).

You have to be able to know everything about a person before you jump into something as big as marriage. Sexual chemistry is one of the most important things.

I dont think I implied that there would not be STD's. It would reduce the spread. There is no way somebody can get pregnant practicing abstinence.

Think about it. Abstinence is no sex right? If you marry you dont automatically give your STD to your spouse. It is when you dont practice abstinence the risk goes up.

Sex is thrown around pretty much only because a lot of people don't want it to be thrown around. As if it were nothing, I mean. Often times it's not at all, sometimes it is to a ridiculous extent, and if it is, that's mostly due to it being the 'naughty' thing to do. So basically, don't talk about it in any way other than casual if you truly are against premarital sex.

No it is just no sex. If you practice it until you get married then married couples pose a risk to each other, but it can be managed. You can figure out if your spouse is clean or not before you get married. If it was always practiced until marriage how would you or your souse even have one unless you got it from birth?

If people didn't drive there would be far less problems in the world. If people went around in bubbles to protect themselves from germs there would very possibly be less disease. That's not going to happen, none of it. You cannot ask people to repress one of their strongest desires, nor should you. Sex can be a great thing, it's just that Christians (and many, many other people) see it as something intrinsically dirty and immoral. That's messed up. Your objections to premarital sex are clearly not about unwanted pregnancy or STDs.

Uh, in Christianity, sex is treated as a wonderful act, as long as it is in marriage. NOT dirty and horrible. Take your crappy generalizations elsewhere.

Oh, no, I was talking about sex outside of marriage. Sorry for that miscommunication. I meant sex in general. Like I said in the other thread about this, I don't really think that ceremony changes the qualities of an action very much.

Actually it is. Just because I am a Christian does not mean I think that the world should be that way. Beating someone up is a natural urge if someone makes you mad enough, does not mean it is right. If someone rapes your wife killing them might be a natural urge. I also know it would not happen but I am right in what I say about it being a fail safe tool. So blame Christians all you want that is being bias to your urge of your stereotype of them.

Sex should be whenever the couple wants it, married or not. It isn't something i practice (well, praticed considering i have no gf).

My thoughts on actualy abstinence is that it is the safest route if you don't want to get pregnant, STDs, or AIDS. If you are ready to have sex, and so is your partner, go for it. If not, well, i suggest waiting.

I don't really see how this is bigoted. If a couple of Catholics walked in on some young lovers having sex, they'd be disgusted and appalled. How is this generalizing? Christianity frowns upon sex for pleasure and sex out of wedlock to the point of seeing it as unclean. Am I wrong?

Also, I do not believe that people naturally have the urge to hurt other people, but that's not the point. If sex does not hurt people, then obviously you can't compare it to rape. But then I'm some kind of bigot for saying that Christians do not view sex as a beautiful thing (sex between two people who are in love and not married, how's that?) and then you kind of shot yourself in the foot by comparing sex to murder.

Waiting is good and all...but why wait for such an arbitrary cut-off point? People can get married at any stage in a relationship be it 6 hours after they've met to 6 years, so it's really pointless.

That's wrong and you know it, there are many pretty effective methods against both of those. And if you wanted to really stop those from happening you could just not have sex. period.

Yes, sex should stay a marriage thing. We have enough STDs, thank you.

BTW, I'm 17, single, and I'm FOR abstinence, I have never had sex, nor will I until I marry.

I know how shocked you guys must be.

STDs don't disappear after you marry.

I never said they did. However, sleeping around instead of waiting to marry will greatly reduce them, will it not?

That depends on if you're making sure the people 'you sleep with' don't have STDs.

Which is just a doctor's office trip away. Not a huge deal, if you ask me.
